HATE this.

Inspired by listening to Black Flag - TV Party 7" - recent SST pressing, bought new and sealed, cleaned with a record cleaner, has horrible surface noise ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

ugh don't get me started w/ this! it's the worst. you have to wonder if some labels even listen to test pressings. my latest peeve: records pressed off-center. worst offenders: Subliminal Frequencies, Kranky.

see i thought you were gonna be talking about old vinyl. cuz buying old sealed records can be a crap shoot. most of the time you are good, but i just spent ten bucks on a cool (old) sealed record and it was way warped. still playable, but i was bummed. new vinyl though, yeah, labels should find another source if they can. if they realize that their stuff is coming out wrong.

i've noticed sub freq being slightly off center a few times, ditto abduction (same pressing plant i'm sure.)
lots of warped or dished 45s coming out on captured tracks.
heard people complain about four men wit beards, but i've never had any real problems with them.

it's funny.
we're listening to an old jackie mclean record here, and it looks like shit, but records were pressed so much better in the fifties that it still sounds ~amazing~

just bought a ton of old records and have been listening to some of the mintiest stuff i've seen in a while. sooooooooooooooooooooooo pretty. pristine zep pressings. every record. could bring a tear to your eye. all kinds of stuff that looks like it was NEVER played. 50's. 60's. 70's. *sigh* love it all.

This is the absolute fucking bane of my existence.

See: A not particularly cheap 3XLP record ($36 actually, but it was on sale, so I'm not too stressed about it) that all throughout sounds like the needle is covered with dust (fuzzy lows, no highs)

And regarding any surface noise: I hate it! I hate it! I hate it!

Another example: No Age - Teen Creeps 7" on Sub Pop - bought it brand new, massive surface noise all the way through it.
