my dad brought me some swingin' jazz records. donald byrd, harold mabern (60's record with george coleman), john stubblefield, adderley bros, some other stuff. old stuff of his. oh, and a nice copy of leon thomas's blues and the soulful truth. which was cool cuz i really like that album and i didn't have a copy. coryell and pretty purdie!

my bro in law got me a mingus record from ACADEMY RECORDS IN NEW YORK NEW YORK. (and he got himself a cool aboriginal record from there.)

i gave him a minty middle eastern christian vocal record. knew he would dig that.

you can check it out here:

My buddy gave me the Wooden Shjips holiday songs 12" that were previously released on a cassette.
Includes 'Auld Lang Syne" and "O Tannenbaum." It's good!
Didn't get to go record shopping on my Christmas trek to Memphis but I did see Girls of the Gravitron and the Limes at the Hi Tone, the Pirates and Snowglobe at the Hi Tone, and an instrumental sorta psychy/mathy trio at the Buccaneer whose name I didn't get.

My father-in-law bought me two records he really liked as a kid and thought I'd like:

Allman Brothers Band - Beginnings
Derek & The Dominos - Layla

...and one that came from a tip from my wife:

Doug Sahm - Hell of a Spell

It's no Donald Byrd, but very nice of him indeed.
