Because, they are quite cheap on e-bay.
Also, because you can pretty much get one LP side on one disc. (23 mins)
So, you record your albums onto yr hard drive, burn them as hifi as you like, and you can keep the sides separated rather than have side 2 run on from side one.
Or, even, decide you want to play side 2 (or side 3, etc, for multivolume LPs)
Alternately, you can pretty much get one reasonably generous 12" 45 onto one disc.
I have been putting PIL's metal box onto 3 3"CDR's, the idea came as I saw they'd just released a new MetalBox CD with three 5" CDs. Which seemed to be only going part-way.
Now all I need is a 3.2 inch "pill-box" to put them in. In metal, obv.
