I am not a vinyl person but I am from santa barbara and can tell you that you shouldn't even bother w/ just play music, which is and always has been a crappy store. the cooler place downtown was morning glory, and that shut down a few years ago.
yelp says there is a place called 'warbler' and I vaguely remember going in once...I think that's probably it?

u driving down the 1? i remember a store in san luis obispo (i think vinyl isle) that i found a bunch of cheap good stuff. this was about 5yrs ago tho. looks like there are a bunch more stores a lil more inland too (boo boos?)

I think Warbler is the only one left up there. American Pie moved down here to Ventura and is pretty expensive and located in a weird little office/warehouse thing. If you get south of SB I recommend Grady's (I work there, though, so kinda biased), Buffalo (expensive but they occasionally you'll find cool/weird stuff cheap), and second Record Outlet (most of the good stuff's in the new arrival stacks leaning against the counter).

just posting here because this thread is active cali record q's but is that new place on pico and fairfax still open, it was called wonderland records, great used selection when I went in a while ago, they hadn't opened yet and it was like 3am, great selection and seemed like nice dudes, hadn't read anything abt the place
