I've been translating for the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden and they've got a show coming up about global warming and the cultures most affected by it. Lots of stuff about the people who herd reindeer indigenous Alaskans and Greenlanders, etc.
Some interesting things I've learned: put dried grass in your shoes to keep your feet warm and dry; put a tuft of down in holes in the ice to tell when a seal is coming there for breath so you can harpoon it; build your entryway lower and your sleeping quarters higher where the heat rises; reindeer can get to the lichen if it's under snow, but if the winter isn't so warm and things thaw and freeze, the ice will keep them from it; pay attention to how the snow is piled up to see which direction you're going (if you know which direction the prevailing winds come from); the kayaks used to have a pointy stern and bow until people started hunting with guns instead of harpoons.
Other things I've learned recently: divest from 0racl3 (lawsuits).

The flash point of LNG is around 1500 deg F, making it much safer than diesel (flash point around 800 deg F) and much much safer than gasoline (flash point of -50 deg F). Also, if you spill LNG on the ground, it doesn't soak in. It all vaporizes to gas within minutes and can't contaminate the soil. If you spill a little bit on some concrete, it forms into balls that bounce around like BBs and looks really cool. Stay out of the cloud though.

I am painting an Orthodox Jewish couple's house all white - apparently this is a religious requirement, nothing but shades of white on the walls? Husband is in the hospital right now so I've not met either of the old folks, just getting info from the maid, so maybe that's not correct.

A brick is 65mm x 215mm x 102.5mm. Add 10mm for joints and perps and you can roughly tell the height of a house by counting the bricks.
