Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 08:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Which of them was in Stargate and which in Donnie Darko?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 08:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Burt Reynolds & Tom Selleck

OMG, I used to get those two mixed up as well! The thing that helps me out is knowing that Reynolds is a nobody now and Selleck is the guy who played "Magnum P.I.", as well as helped Kevin Kline's character get out of the closet in In & Out (so Selleck obv wins). OH, nearly forgot when he was Monica's older boyfriend in "Friends", too! So the '90s obv made Selleck stand out a bit more, thankfully....

And Patrick Swayze is the dude in "Donnie Darko". Kurt Russell I remember as being the guy who started out as a child actor.

I used to be confused by Dorothy Hamill and Mary Lou Retton when I was a little kid, too. Just remembered. And the names of the two families on "Charles In Charge" -- the Powells and the, gee, can't remember the other one. I used to, though, and eventually figured out the Powells were from the latter part of the series and that other family were the first ones, the one without the grandfather.

Jeff Bridges and Beau Bridges

More serious answers:

Brian Dennehy and Charles Durning
Kevin Kline and Kevin Spacey
Tom Hanks and Michael Keaton (when they were just getting known)

Chris Tucker & Chris Rock. Were they both in Bad Boys, or just one of them?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 09:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Chris Tucker & Chris Rock

OTM

You study Finnish? Dare I ask the reason for this?

I am willing to bet that the word 'Moomin' is involved somewhere.

joanna newsom & regina spektor

I call bullshit on this, no-one in the history of the world sounds like Joanna Newsom.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 09:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I've always mixed Tobey McGuire and Jake Gyllenhaal too, maybe because they've both played angsty teenagers.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 15:39 (seventeen years ago) link

but jake's such much cuter!

I always confuse "nausated" and "nauseous"

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 15:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think he's cuter, a bit too clear-cut and masculine for my tastes.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 15:48 (seventeen years ago) link

The way to tell rip torn and rip taylor apart is that the names go to the opposite of who you'd expect- the serious actor is torn and the comedian is taylor.

joanna newsom & regina spektor

I call bullshit on this, no-one in the history of the world sounds like Joanna Newsom.

insofar as they are (a) contemporary female musicians i haven't listened to (b) whose names have the same rhythmic scansion (amphibrach trochee), you can keep that bullshit call. nyah.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Rip Taylor is obviously the more comedic name. "Rip Tailor" -- get it??

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh yeah. Then THAT's the way to tell them apart.

The Redd And The Blecch (Ken L), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:29 (seventeen years ago) link

wow, I had been mixing those guys up and didn't even realize it.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I used to get these guys confused
Louis Hayes and Roy Haynes

Then I got these guys confused for a second
Jason Mraz and Jason Lindner

And I still haven't got these guys straight
Avishai Cohen (Trumpet) and Avishai Cohen (Bass)

The Redd And The Blecch (Ken L), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Also
Sam Rivers and Sam Jones

(apparently there is also a Sam Rivers in miccio's favorite band)

The Redd And The Blecch (Ken L), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I confuse lots of things (mainly people). Por ejemplo:

Ed Begley Jr. / Gary Busey

Kiefer Sutherland / Kenneth Branagh

Oh, and Rumsfeld/Cheney

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 21:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, the two Rips have been a source of confusion for me as well.

So the '90s obv made Selleck stand out a bit more, thankfully....

What about Reynolds's much-heralded "comeback" circa Boogie Nights?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 21:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Sheldon Leonard/Sidney Sheldon

Okay LOL at confusing Chris Rock and Chris Tucker.

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 21:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I always confuse Matt Damon and Matt Dillon.

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 21:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Because they're both WHITE GUYS NAMED MATT! IT CONFUSES ME!

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 21:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I used to think Fred Savage was the Boy Meets World kid for like 2 years once upon a time.

blotter Budweiser Hackeysadk (nickalicious), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Also in the late 90s I couldn't remember which British actress named Kate was which: Winslet, Blanchett, Beckinsale. Then I saw them in movies and that changed REALLY quickly.

blotter Budweiser Hackeysadk (nickalicious), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Which do you beat off over?

It says a lot about a man, I think.

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I used to think Fred Savage was the Boy Meets World kid for like 2 years once upon a time.

Isn't that because the Boy Meets World kid was his brother?

emil.y (emil.y), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Yep!

(I'm boggling at Mark, that's fucking hardcore.)

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I love how FB worked in that Ruby Red photo right before Mark's wanking post. It made my day.

blotter Budweiser Hackeysadk (nickalicious), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

If ever any of them at all, it was probably Winslet.

blotter Budweiser Hackeysadk (nickalicious), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Isn't that because the Boy Meets World kid was his brother?

hahahahaha wow! That's kind of cool.

blotter Budweiser Hackeysadk (nickalicious), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I like that Mark's post is sandwiched between Chris Tucker and Fred Savage. That's hardcore!

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 22:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I always thought Jerry O'Connell was the Boy Who Could Fly but apparently it was Jay Underwood.
