I chuckled at the NPR story on the van Gogh at the Art Museum that referred to PDX's 500,000 "moist inhabitants." (this was before the flooding.)

Clay, Saturday, 29 March 2008 04:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I was at Boredoms. Pushed my way passed all the lazy hippies and stood right underneath Eye's swinging locks. It was glorious. But they were better when I saw them at Crystal back in '98.

Bob Mould show tonight was great.

Weather is fuckt: snow, rain, hail, snow, rain, snow.

kingfish, Saturday, 29 March 2008 07:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Yay Portland, with the infinitely better strip bars than Seattle.

Bimble, Saturday, 29 March 2008 07:41 (sixteen years ago) link

The Lucky Lady peep show in Seattle had a fantastic slogan on its marquee one March: IN LIKE A LION...OUT LIKE A LAMB

Eazy, Saturday, 29 March 2008 07:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I sometimes forget there are strip clubs aside from Magic Gardens here.

And what the fuck was up today -- went from snow to sun to hail to sun to rain to just plain cold.

I fully expect raining frogs tomorrow.

Mike McGooney-gal, Saturday, 29 March 2008 08:00 (sixteen years ago) link

That is equinoctial weather around here.

Hail is a common feature in March. Also rainbows. We get these cold fronts from the Gulf of Alaska. After the cold rain comes through, the aftermath is all this freaky unsettled sun-hail-rain stuff. The snow was a little unusual, I must say.

Aimless, Saturday, 29 March 2008 17:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Portland I was in you yesterday as well in an attempt to get onto Jeopardy!. You are still my favorite town even when you snow at times, which is not pleasant.

joygoat, Saturday, 29 March 2008 18:58 (sixteen years ago) link

It snowed for just a few minutes, I thought, and didn't stick.

Walking around in hail was not superfun, although my friend (who grew up in Beaverton) didn't know that they were called hail "stones", which I thought was odd.

...There have been more than 600 quakes over the past 10 days in a basin 150 miles southwest of Newport. The biggest was magnitude 5.4 and two others were more than magnitude 5.0, OSU reported. They have not followed the typical pattern of a major shock followed by a series of diminishing aftershocks, and few have been strong enough to be felt on shore.

I am looking out my window at a hazel bush with 2" of snow piled on every twig. It's our first real snowfall in about 22 months. I'd post a pic, but I'm too lazy.

I am so glad I anticipated this and bought a shit-ton of groceries yesterday! Sure the weatherman has been saying it would snow all week, but it takes a native to really predict the weather within 24 hours around these parts. Time to build a fire!

Nobody has a job. Everyone is stoned all the time (+ superior coffee & microbrew selections). There are strip clubs on every corner. You aren't legally allowed to pump your own gas. There is no sales tax. We are the home of the biggest bookstore in the world.

What else do you want to know?

I haven't been. Let me know when there's a really great (heavy) one.

I almost made it out to see the Symphony do Beethoven's 9th a few months back, but all my buddies chickened out when they found out that it's not a $5 show.
