i would like to say something nice about the people on the U.S. Politics thread. i read it a lot and the people on there don't drive me crazy and i don't end up hating them. and they are pretty smart! and, most importantly, they tolerate my bad jokes and naivete. i can't imagine following anything like that anywhere else. maybe it is a bubble of like-minded people but whatever who cares. sometimes you just need to feel less crazed in trumpworld.

before i get into this, i wanted to clarify a few things:yes i have a twitter, no i never use it. i have friended some of you on rym or last.fm, but i met all of you here.this is the only account i've ever had.idc what you think of me and i'm not posting this for anything other than the fact that i've been keeping this google doc in editing for weeks now and i keep adding more people to it but i need to just say what i need to say, so here it is…
-nedned has put so much positivity into the world that it's impossible to talk about ned or ned-adjacent things with anything other than warming enthusiasm. if i had to pick a single instance, i guess the best thing i can say about ned is that i never would have been able to post here if it weren't for him; ned is truly exemplary. (alternately: blame ned.)
-alfredalfred's taste in music often lines up with mine in very esoteric, highly entertaining ways. i'm neurodivergent af so that always got me wondering and wanting to ask more about your formal education and path into teaching/writing. not for anything else than it seems so vastly different from my path in life, and yet we both love things like ebtg's idlewild for very specific reasons. i never brought it up because 1) seems too prying and 2) i don't think you like me very much as a person, so my intentions are probably not seen as completely true when engaging in such a way… i often wish the humanizing the vacuum format -quick overall summary lists accompanied by a thoughtful and positive-skewed overture- was the standard all along.
-katehi kate. don't ever do anything different. ever. idk what else to say. without any weirdness at all: we should hang out. you probably get that a lot from weirdos like me because you have such a huge and kind heart. again: stay the course, friend.
-flamboyant goon tie includedi admit i read all of your posts. i seek them out. you have charisma in text like few other people i've encountered online. you speak often of composing music and i swoon every single time. even in your bad mood posts, i find you captivating in very good ways. not in any specific ways, either. as the classic line goes, you are quite charming friend. thank you.
-sarahellone of my all-time favorite posters. you have a really genuine and endearing perspective. thank you for posting.
-zach hi zach. hope you are doing well. you are rad.
-whiney g weingartenhi chris! i gave you a hard time a lot but it was in a memey way and you are a good sport. always came from a place of mischief, not malice. i really appreciate your willingness to say what needs to be said, appropriateness be damned.
-ye mad puffinyou're so good at humanity, even ned could probably learn a couple new tricks from you. the rest of us appreciate your patience while we catch up. puffin? more like goat.
-noodle vaguealways want to ask you to “please expound” on ilm, but only because you are so much smarter than me and i am a sponge. another ilxor with heart often on display and we're all better for it.
-brimsteadanother person whose posts i intentionally seek out. mostly because you have such a wide casting net of catologue stuff and we're often intersecting interests. you are humble and assertive in ways that i could learn from.
-ivyi remember an old screen name incorporated the phrase ‘stock fist pumper’ and i absolutely love that. your enthusiasm is infectious and i feel like that's intentional - what's not to appreciate, after all?
-la lecheraone of the best perspectives on the board. always stop to read your posts, always worthwhile. thanks for the music you've shared!
-upper mississippi shakedownone of ilm's most trusted names imo. if ums rates it, it's worth looking into. very level headed and knowledgeable, can't imagine this place without you.
-beeokanother total charner with enough good vibes for all. never tire of your casual accounts of seeing completely legendary bands and shows.
-scott sewardif ilx was a bustling town, scott is our no-nonsense, forever-beloved mayor. i tried to message you on ig once about buying a record you posted in your shop, but you never answered. it's okay, it was during covid and mailing extra curricular stuff like that was more trouble than it was worth. anyway, have more recently started to read all of your posts because you've been sharing some poignant reflections (writing this in aug 2024). love seeing you around more frequently.
-nickbidk dude, your taste in music is too agreeable sometimes lol. and again: another person whose overwhelming positivity is just infectious.
-budo jeru hi bj. i think about you and your music often. thanks for posting.
-vegemite grrlmaybe the most fun poster ever? my pick anyway.
-aimlessaimless for earth president. i hope someone pays you to write some of that stuff. i'm just sitting here marveling at your ability to whittle complexities down so succinctly. i've also wanted to ask if you have any longform published writings, but again have not wanted to pry.
-neanderthalanother instance of “hey we should hang out” but again i'm weird so ofc i would think that. i'm consistently impressed by the variety of music you post where you're singing and you're another pillar of positivity. otherwise, and perhaps most importantly, you consistently have the best display names on the board.
-boxedjoyi've yet to meet a boxedjoy rec that i didn't like. a name i wish i saw more frequently.
-dowi mean this in the best possible way: dow is probably typing some really fascinating, really esoteric shit somewhere on ilx right now. absolutely cannot wait to find it.
-man alivesee you in a jazz topic, friend!
-gerald mcboingboing see you in a new wave topic, friend!
-moka also seek out your postings. i’ve learned probably more from your participation on the forums than anyone else. especially with regards to new music, i am very content to give all of your mentions a blind listen.
-heez very chill person. good postings and good original music. one of the names i’m always drawn to, even on topics that i wouldn't otherwise be interested in.
-maresn3st another catalogue enthusiast with deep pockets of knowledge. always happy to share, too.
-mapalways stop and read when i see you post. your dispatches on the dj thread are some of my favorite postings and if i were to assign the spirit of ilx into one person, i would absolutely support you for forum spokesperson. one of the most well-spoken people i've encountered online. have also often wondered if you have ever held a professional journalism job.
-joan crawford loves chachithere's a few of you that are so chill, i often end up reading your posts before i know it’s you, and when i see who the author is, i just have that “ahh, of course!” moment. jclc, heez, frogbs, ums, bj, scott, bee, zach, man alive, some dude… i bet ya'll never pay for drinks wherever you go. too many good karma credits to redeem.
-soundslikemix, master. i still have so much to learn.
-colonel poothank you for posting. i wish you the absolute best forever and ever.
this is getting long. i'm sorry if i didn't mention you. i promise it doesn't mean anything. i like all of you in your own ways and i don't think i've ever read anything or had interactions on here that ever made me feel bad about anything. i know i have a warped sense of humor, but it's never directed at anyone; just the dangerous flaming embers that get caught in the wind sometimes. this isn't a retirement post, but i'm making an effort to say goodbye to postings here indefinitely. thanks for everything.
okay, confession: i genuinely disliked turrican. i'm certainly not perfect and i held onto a lot of violence in my heart over that dude for a WHILE lol. oh well, guess i know how summa ya'll feel about me.

I feel like a lot of stuff I'm enthusiastic about, other people have beaten me to discussing it and say far more interesting and insightful things than I ever could! It would be nice if I could say "I like this and I summon [whichever ilx poster who is the expert in this area] to explain why it is excellent"
This thread bump is lovely and wonderful to see. So many of the online spaces I inhabit feel like echo chambers, self-promo machines or trolling spaces. The reason I keep coming back to ilx is that it feels like a place where there's a genuine community and affection. There are also so many people whose lives and experiences and perceptions I find genuinely fascinating and exciting to hear about. You're all wonderful.

i just saw this for the first time on another thread: "ilchixors"! ha!
i've said it before and i'll say it again. i came for the cranky rock critics but i stayed for the rrrobyn and nicole and jbr and geeta and estela and in orbit and trayce and suzy and enbb and sarahell and vegemitegrrl and all the other laydeez on here. for real. i would have had my fill of Pavement trivia a Looooooong time ago and ilx would be just a distant memory without people like them here. but instead i came on ile and the noize board and i started the book board and there was all kinds of fun stuff to talk about that i didn't have anyone in real life to talk to about! so many cool brains and so many cool people. no offense to the dudes. you guys are good when i need a good HAM STEAK recommendation. ;)
(also for sure all those people and more made ILM waaaaay better too.)
also i wish my pal beth parker was still here. i got her to come here and i loved reading what she wrote. we e-mail from time to time about sci-fi and stuff.

Hey Austin, how lovely to be namechecked on this thread, thank you. I've been posting/reading ILX for 20+ years but still feel like a lurker.
