JP pointed out he should use some of it to reimburse his mum's airfare, in case he hadn't thought of it himself, and to make him sound like a right bastard if he didn't do it.

He was in one of the papers the other week, in a sorry state. His teeth all fell out (as a result of his chemo or something iirc) and he can't eat properly and weighs something like 6st. He's living on benefits and is trying to somehow raise £20k to get his mouth fixed.

Wasn't this big investigation into John Higgins and co supposed to be over in "weeks not months" about 3 weeks ago so the whole of Snooker's name could be cleared once and for all? What's the latest news re: that?
― StanM, Thursday, 20 May 2010 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

Luca Brecel, 15, is the youngest Belgian national champion ever (not the under-16 championship, the adult thing)

Always more talent if John Higgins is banned.

that Brecel guy thrills and scares me. Check out his Youtube videos; dude's legit poised to take the fuck over
― acoleuthic, Monday, 24 May 2010 18:02 (fifteen years ago)
Your chance to get in on the ground floor by updating his wikipedia entry. Typically, the one defeat mentioned is to Graeme Dott. Peter Ebdon's probably limbering up to piss on his world championship dreams.

15 year old Brecel just won the final of the european championship (the adult competition, he won the -19 championship last year). I don't think any British players competed (no prize money and rivalling organisations like in boxing, I guess).
Another Belgian, Wendy Jans, is the european women's champion again (I believe it's her fifth title) as well.
― StanM, Saturday, 5 June 2010 12:43 (fifteen years ago)
How DOES this whole snooker world work re: rivalling organisations, btw? Nothing about this on the BBC's news-sport-snooker site.

Also, Ronnie O' wanted to pull out and then changed his mind a day later :-/http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/snooker/9457992.stm

Ronnie not doing too badly against Tommy Cooper there
― StanM, Monday, 18 April 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)
He looked good in the three frames I saw, though it looked as if his opponent was doing his best to set him up for a maxi at the start of every frame.
Maguire having a 'mare. Proper wasted talent that guy.

9-9 Higgins - O'Sullivan. This is great. Guess everyone is gonna watch Barca - Madrid
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 27 April 2011 18:44 (fourteen years ago)
Expecting Judd Trump to falter at some point. Not happening so far.
7-4 ahead of Ding.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 29 April 2011 10:07 (fourteen years ago)
Only half watching - I keep seeing Ding in winning positions then go back to find he's lost another frame. Both players look to be struggling to find form
― every day I'm (onimo), Friday, 29 April 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)
Both were not morning persons. The evening session was blow-for-blow high breaks.
Now Higgins - Williams is also a tad scrappy this morning, but they share the first four frames: 11-9 Williams
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 10:20 (fourteen years ago)
11-11. Incredible fight back by John - on yesterday's session Mark was so good but John is so resilient.

That's crazy. Williams launched an assault yesterday - the tables can turn but he needed to steal a frame or two. Now its Williams who is taking on tough pots instead of playing safe when required.
12-11 John. Betting this will go all the way. Won't bet against World title no4 for Higgins.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)
Higgins about to steal the final frame of the session..

― not_goodwin, Saturday, 30 April 2011 17:15 (fourteen years ago)
Trump is great. People mentioned Jimmy White because of some of the huge cue power (and exuberance by putting it on show often) and I'd agree.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 19:24 (fourteen years ago)
i liked that he couldn't quite keep from smiling towards the end of the colours on the final frame. and then saying in the interview afterwards that his legs were giving way on him. i hope he can ride the wave to the title.
― nultybutnice (whatever), Saturday, 30 April 2011 19:42 (fourteen years ago)
Higgins through after a cagey final session.
Love Trump to do this but Higgins is a killer of dreams -- can see him getting Trump into tactical battles and sinking him. Its just whether Trump could find the big breaks from 14 - 9 down.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 20:33 (fourteen years ago)
I missed the heckler - apparently the guy shouted "How did you swallow that £300,000 John? You're a disgrace to snooker!"
Higgins was lucky to stay in the match yesterday. He played much better today and Williams just kept letting him in. I think if Trump maintains his form he'll be strong enough to win. Higgins has had three long gruelling matches in a row and I think he'll run out of steam. I think I'll have a flutter on Trump to win by 3 or more frames.
― every day I'm (onimo), Saturday, 30 April 2011 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
They will both have a bad session is all I predict.
