homosexual II, Thursday, 21 October 2010 21:31 (fourteen years ago) link

i find it v v odd that there is no one from denver on ilx

homosexual II, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:04 (fourteen years ago) link

hmm i can't help you out with that. but since this is the DENVER thread, some of my friends from westword just started a "podcast" called the Denver Diatribe: http://denverdiatribe.wordpress.com/
it's good!

tylerw, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:21 (fourteen years ago) link

J0hn D1ck3r is my homeboy.

kate78, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:46 (fourteen years ago) link

I might know some people looking for a short-term roommate, but they'd be pretty annoying, younger radio1190 kids.

kate78, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:47 (fourteen years ago) link

o yeah? i dont know john too well, but we have many many mutual friends.
i am in longmont, yes. but i'll be in denver this afternoon for what promises to be a horrible meeting. :D
in other denver news: i'm not going, but dudes from my old band are doing a GBV tribute set at the 404 Club tomorrow. i think a replacements cover band is playing too. so it'll be drunk at least.

tylerw, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:47 (fourteen years ago) link

kate78 that is fine!!!! my friend from alaska wants to move to denver for a couple of months.

homosexual II, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:50 (fourteen years ago) link

404 is doing lots of shows lately; went to one last weekend that was super fun! my friend andrew is going to be playing in his band tonight at the Lion's Lair - its something called FRANKSGIVING

Come celebrate the 15th Annual Celebration of Frank Bell not kicking the bucket from Crohn's disease with special guests Rockabilly Madman Ralph Gean, Get Your Going! and LITTLE FYODOR!!! Free franks, the official foodstuff of Franksgiving!!! Donation bucket for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America! $5, cheap!!

Actually copying and pasting that is kinda making me sad that I agreed to go. Rockabilly Madman? :/ :/ :/ Oh well at least it's for a good cause.

Also Bad Weather California is playing tomorrow night at Rhinoceropolis with Royal Baths and the Fresh & Onlys (3553 Brighton Blvd)

homosexual II, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:55 (fourteen years ago) link

I am pretending as if someone might find the above info useful

homosexual II, Friday, 22 October 2010 16:58 (fourteen years ago) link

i like the lion's lair, we played there a couple of times. i've seen bad weather california once or twice, they're good. i've sorta stopped going to local shows in denver since we had a baby, though.

is this thread ever going to take off?

homosexual II, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

I'm a Boulderite. Well, actually I'm from the east coast, but I moved out here for a job and to be close to the mountains. Denver has been winning me over lately. I doubt I'd move down there, but I've had a great time.

I saw Snake Rattle Rattle Snake at the Hi Dive. They were pretty enjoyable. Certainly better than the options in Boulder: madolines or bad electronica.

Benjamin-, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 02:33 (twelve years ago) link

hmmm. This thread should take off! I'm a Denver-person too. I suppose we could talk more about Denvery/Bouldery things itt. I'm not usually comfortable putting myself out there like this but w/e it's ilx: I play in a band called Saturn Cowboys, we do kind of rock stuff that maybe somebody out there might be into. http://saturncowboys.bandcamp.com/ <--- I like to think of this as our 'ambitious but flawed first album'

So, we're playing a show on March 24 at Lion's Lair with Bonnie and the Beard & Tin Horn Prayer, both excellent bands, + we'll be releasing the above album as a CD there. If anyone wants to come and say hey, lemme know!

one month passes...

playing in denver on june 8th! at unit e. solo electronic stuff, possibly with drums if i can borrow some there.

40oz of tears (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 15:58 (twelve years ago) link

man, unit e. has really taken off. i wasn't even aware of other DIY venues around town aside from Rhino & BlastOMat

i'll be there! i look vaguely like a "nathan fillion + the werewolf from twilight hybrid" according to a guy at the bar last night

kelpolaris, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 16:25 (twelve years ago) link

is unit e at all related to unit b? on lawrence and 20th?

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 16:34 (twelve years ago) link

is it in the red brick building w/ the apts on the 2nd floor? think i was there once for halloween 3-4yrs ago, can't remember exactly.

kelpolaris, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 16:46 (twelve years ago) link

great! my friend who set up the show will be playing too, and he is dope (m@n m@ntis).

40oz of tears (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

are you "on tour" ? i'd think that there'd be some other thread resuscitation given that

kelpolaris, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:04 (twelve years ago) link

kelpolaris i was there on halloween in 2010 too.

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:10 (twelve years ago) link

i dated a guy who lived there. that was interesting.

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:10 (twelve years ago) link

jordan i'll be at your show. is there a FB event or anything?

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:11 (twelve years ago) link

nah, just visiting family and i figured i might as well pick up a gig as long as i was out there. although i'm planning on doing other weekend trips this summer and telling people it's a "tour".

xp not yet, but when it gets closer i'll invite you on facebook and post the details here. looking forward to it!

40oz of tears (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:17 (twelve years ago) link

(PS, Unit E is on Santa Fe and not related to Unit B)

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:17 (twelve years ago) link

Oh, and I went to a party there once. It's all coming together.

Sorry for my liveblogging my stupid thoughts here.

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:18 (twelve years ago) link

I'm going to a place called the Lost Lake Lounge sometime soon. Never heard of it. On E. Colfax?

tylerw, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:19 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah. On Monroe & Colfax. It's pretty hipstery, but not disgustingly so.

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:21 (twelve years ago) link

yeahhh, it seems as though the Howling Hex are doing a weekly residency there in June. I am the only one in Denver excited about this, I think.

tylerw, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

The same owners of Sputnik and Hi-Dive operate Lost Lake.

If that gives you an idea.

It's a bit more laid back and dingy, though.

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

Howling Hex? Really? Are they from Denver???

homosexual II, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:25 (twelve years ago) link

The dude just moved out here or something? He's playing the Lion's Lair on the 20th of this month too. Saw him a few weeks back at the larimer lounge. pretty bizarre, but great --- had a backing band playing norteno kinda rhythms while he played psychedelic freak out guitar. there were about 12 people there.

tylerw, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:27 (twelve years ago) link

somewhat OT: has hi-dive always used biker dudes as doormen?

kelpolaris, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:29 (twelve years ago) link

hmm, i don't remember that. people working the door when i frequented there were frail indie types iirc.
