Joel's thoroughly unexcited "OH WOW!" always makes my day.

Okay so that Manos: The Hands of Fate sequel just got weirder:

We are absolutely ecstatic to inform you that THE MASTER himself, Tom Neyman is alive and well, and will be reprising his role as "The Master" in "Manos: The Search for Valley Lodge"! Wow!

!

Haha from one of the very first episodes I saw when it was actually broadcast. I like imagining how quickly they were piling on the toupees and drawing on his mustache.

I like the YouTube comment that compares this to a well-done Muppets musical number.

I looooove Joel's miffed Mike Curb Congregation riff. God, the whole thing. "IT STINKS!" If Pod People didn't have all the lonnnnnng dreary forest wandering stuff it'd be my favorite episode in a walk between Idiot Patrol and the Trumpy stop-motion scene.

Can anyone explain the forest/hunter scenes in that movie at all? The other two parts are ET and teen slasher ripoffs, but the hunter scenes don't explain themselves or appear to rip off any type of movie.

a nan, a bal, an anal ― (abanana), Wednesday, 12 January 2011 02:29 (thirteen years ago) link

They're poaching doing the poaching for the eggs and the thing. I think. And the Pepperidge Farm guy was one of them but now he's not and he has a bar at home and drinks from it.

Again, I think.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 02:52 (thirteen years ago) link

And isn't it something like the hunters smashed the eggs and are there to show the 'bad' side of human nature...but they sort of outlive their purpose after 5 minutes of the movie so they're just padding after that. Wonderful, foggy, Renaissance fair padding. JERK.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 03:37 (thirteen years ago) link

my friends and I are thinking of recording a series of alt commentaries for bad mainstream movies (romcoms etc.) wherein we invent drinking games for each movie in advance and then carry them out while discussing the film in a way that will start out pseudo-intelligent and then inevitably degrade into puerile name-calling as we get more and more intoxicated. is it a good idea y/n

Simon H., Wednesday, 12 January 2011 05:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Have you ever heard the Cannibal! the Musical commentary? - Trey & Matt and friends do that. If your shenanigans are as funny as theirs over the course of the movie, then I say YES

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 06:07 (thirteen years ago) link

In a science institute, there’s an experiment,
They’re testing the effect of movie reels on people.
How will consciousness be affected by a movie.
Of questionable quality and made long ago
A nice guy, Stephen is in need of some money
He got a job as a test subject, threw caution to the wind
He didn’t know that the process is supervised by
Professor Zamishlavkin, a bad guy (something)
Stephen watches movies, he’s now imprisoned
If it’s wasn’t for his friends, he’d be miserable
Mutants, saboteurs: a dog and a penguin
Rescue his psychie and watch along with him
:::Fidel::: [penguin's name]
:::Ketchup::: [dog's name]
:::the greatest achievement of national defense!:::
When the friends are all together, they don’t fear the bad guy
They make comments on everything, so that it’s more fun
In the face of scientific theories,
They giggle and laugh, as they watch Project Popcorn

The box sets? Yup, just got the latest one from last month -- both Master Ninja episodes, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad and Project Moonbase from the first season. Hadn't seen any of them in years, great stuff.

I still can't get over the fact that Timothy Van Patten went from his mumbling non-triumphs there to being the guy who co-wrote "Pine Barrens" for The Sopranos, not to mention directing a slew of other episodes for that and other various high-end cable series. Talk about bootstrapping! I would have loved it if they could have interviewed him as a bonus for this set.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Wait a minute, he also directed the first two episodes of Game of Thrones!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:43 (thirteen years ago) link

xpost Yeah, toxic paints, shmaints - whatever. I'm on Blu-Ray now baby

Brakhage, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh weird yeah, I kept thinking Van Patten was Tim Olyphant (sheriff, Deadwood) for some reason. Good on him for surviving into a viable career

Brakhage, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:47 (thirteen years ago) link

If anything I figure having gone through that show was a good object lesson in what not to do. (I also like how most of his directorial woodshedding was done on Touched By An Angel.)
