clemenza, you takin' this too seriously

1. surprised to not see polanski, lynch or spielberg

2. hate to be negative but this is a very boring list of directors

3. where lynch and van sant at??

4. cant believe this is the new canon. Disgusted once again at ilx's narrow scope

5. srsly noah fuckin baumbach out of that lot

6. so Baumbach's terrible? Gotta majorly disagree, if that's what you meant.

Yeah--clearly my comment comes from way out of left field.

clemenza, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 21:31 (thirteen years ago) link

you're the only one who paid attention to other respondents

if yr beyond solipsism, yr taking ilx too seriously ;)

When you phrase it that way, point taken.

Not to get bogged down in the world's least consequential argument, but that's what I initially thought too--until nakhchivan himself corrected me.

poorly-shaven dudes who look like they'd be found loitering at starbucks in a wool hat on saturday morning: fuck them

judging by godard's pose there he's sitting in starbucks drinking tepid caffeinated syrup and reading contenderizer zings on his laptop

Is it like, a law that film directors have to be overweight schlubs with beards, or something.

I mean look at Sofia Coppola, geez.

The best likenesses, for me, are Spike, Soderbergh, and Eastwood; a number of others are fairly close. The worst by far is Truffaut--unless I just don't have a mental picture of what he looked like towards the end.

clemenza, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 22:38 (thirteen years ago) link

funniest are claude chabrol and stanley kubrick. would dedicate huge cubicle/fridge space to a daily comic strip about them and maybe a cat.

Jarmusch's caricature qualifies as man who looks like old lesbian. Pouty lips!

I'm actually pretty down with this whole list, tbqh.

That is potentially a great way to reframe my long history of miserable failure!
