I don't know if this related, but I have a definite irrational fear of olive loaf or really any type of bologna that has little round stuff embedded in it. I'm perfectly at peace with salami and pepperoni and their regular flecked patterns, but if a slice of bologna is anything but perfectly pink and consistent throughout, then it creeps me out hardcore.

it's interesting to me that the tryp- of trypophobia (Ancient Greek τρῦπα [trûpa, “hole”]) doesn't have anything to do with the greatest/grossest hole-y substance of all time, tripe (which has an unknown origin but may be Arabic or Old Norse).

yeah. i tried doing a little research into it but was surprised i couldn't find anybody saying what you said, which seems like the obvious explanation. on the other hand, i'm dissuaded from digging too deeply into it because the internet is filled with unpleasant things and i don't want to fill my head with them
