The box sets? Yup, just got the latest one from last month -- both Master Ninja episodes, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad and Project Moonbase from the first season. Hadn't seen any of them in years, great stuff.

I still can't get over the fact that Timothy Van Patten went from his mumbling non-triumphs there to being the guy who co-wrote "Pine Barrens" for The Sopranos, not to mention directing a slew of other episodes for that and other various high-end cable series. Talk about bootstrapping! I would have loved it if they could have interviewed him as a bonus for this set.

Wait a minute, he also directed the first two episodes of Game of Thrones!

Oh weird yeah, I kept thinking Van Patten was Tim Olyphant (sheriff, Deadwood) for some reason. Good on him for surviving into a viable career

If anything I figure having gone through that show was a good object lesson in what not to do. (I also like how most of his directorial woodshedding was done on Touched By An Angel.)

A creepy statue of a hand -- a model of Falls City resident Rick Zunck's hand made by Jones -- represents Manos in the film. Neyman carefully contemplates the statue and then tentatively reaches for it. Once he grabs hold, he screams and writhes in pain. This goes on for what seems like an excruciating long time before Neyman unleashes a chillingly desperate shout.

The performance receives applause from the entire crew.

"The man's got skills," Munch said to Jones, shaking his head.

(But that's the joy, sometimes a rewatch turns up something totally random -- thus when I got the latest set with Master Ninja II and Joel reads a letter from someone having to study Derrida, Servo immediately follows it up with a sneezed "Foucault!" that sounds like he's trying to suppress a curse word. Had never noticed that once all this time!)
