The Russian MST3K. Who knew?

http://www.mst3kinfo.com/?p=8658

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 January 2011 15:31 (fourteen years ago)

In a science institute, there’s an experiment,
They’re testing the effect of movie reels on people.
How will consciousness be affected by a movie.
Of questionable quality and made long ago
A nice guy, Stephen is in need of some money
He got a job as a test subject, threw caution to the wind
He didn’t know that the process is supervised by
Professor Zamishlavkin, a bad guy (something)
Stephen watches movies, he’s now imprisoned
If it’s wasn’t for his friends, he’d be miserable
Mutants, saboteurs: a dog and a penguin
Rescue his psychie and watch along with him
:::Fidel::: [penguin's name]
:::Ketchup::: [dog's name]
:::the greatest achievement of national defense!:::
When the friends are all together, they don’t fear the bad guy
They make comments on everything, so that it’s more fun
In the face of scientific theories,
They giggle and laugh, as they watch Project Popcorn

^ would pay big money to hear Joel Tom & Crow riff an episode of that

Perhaps it all began here:

two months pass...

Following on from the posts just above, here's the full story (well, at least the first part) of the Russian MST3K -- pretty great!

They really need to get these put on the next box set

Brakhage, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

... I assume they're still making them, right?

Brakhage, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

so happy you're alive!

motivatedgirl (Matt P), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

The box sets? Yup, just got the latest one from last month -- both Master Ninja episodes, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad and Project Moonbase from the first season. Hadn't seen any of them in years, great stuff.

Brakhage, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

I still can't get over the fact that Timothy Van Patten went from his mumbling non-triumphs there to being the guy who co-wrote "Pine Barrens" for The Sopranos, not to mention directing a slew of other episodes for that and other various high-end cable series. Talk about bootstrapping! I would have loved it if they could have interviewed him as a bonus for this set.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:42 (fourteen years ago)

Wait a minute, he also directed the first two episodes of Game of Thrones!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

xpost Yeah, toxic paints, shmaints - whatever. I'm on Blu-Ray now baby

Brakhage, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:44 (fourteen years ago)

Oh weird yeah, I kept thinking Van Patten was Tim Olyphant (sheriff, Deadwood) for some reason. Good on him for surviving into a viable career

Brakhage, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 17:47 (fourteen years ago)

If anything I figure having gone through that show was a good object lesson in what not to do. (I also like how most of his directorial woodshedding was done on Touched By An Angel.)

three weeks pass...

Meanwhile, more on that Manos sequel:

http://www.polkio.com/archives/Story.aspx/20504/falls-city-fright

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

A creepy statue of a hand -- a model of Falls City resident Rick Zunck's hand made by Jones -- represents Manos in the film. Neyman carefully contemplates the statue and then tentatively reaches for it. Once he grabs hold, he screams and writhes in pain. This goes on for what seems like an excruciating long time before Neyman unleashes a chillingly desperate shout.

The performance receives applause from the entire crew.

"The man's got skills," Munch said to Jones, shaking his head.

Never caught that line until just now!

scissorlocks and the three bears (Eric H.), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 22:05 (fourteen years ago)

Aw dude. (But that's the joy, sometimes a rewatch turns up something totally random -- thus when I got the latest set with Master Ninja II and Joel reads a letter from someone having to study Derrida, Servo immediately follows it up with a sneezed "Foucault!" that sounds like he's trying to suppress a curse word. Had never noticed that once all this time!)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 22:08 (fourteen years ago)
