"Hats. Hats for bats. Keep bats warm."

hstencil, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 14:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

I knew it, Chris! I can't wait to see Lowe struggle tonight - I imagine the BoSox Nation shall be spending their day buffing their pitchforks, prepping torches, & stapling pics of Theo to person-shaped burlap sacks.

Juan Pierre = Willie Mays Hays?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 14:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

Wakefield pitches tonight. Lowe is the #3 now. And I hate Wakefield. Your right about the pitchforks and Theo's acne riddled head.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

I suspect it won't be long into the season before we see Matt Anderson or Jose Jimenez wearing a Sox uniform.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 14:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

huckaby atomic knee-dropped my season :(

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 15:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

HAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 15:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh man, tough break there with the shoulder, bnw :(

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 15:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

I hope he is done for the year!

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 15:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Nah, 2 weeks.

Seriously, as much as I kind of root against the Yankees, I hate to see anything that even resembles a serious or career-ending injury. Just thinking about Bo Jackson and that one from the Fiesta Bowl this year, things like that make me want to cry, for reals.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Hats. Hats for bats. Keep bats warm."

:) I may have to do a screening of this.

And I just saw the Bull Durham mound conference commercial with Gammons and Karl "Rowr"vech. Is it wrong, in a consensual relationship between two adults, to ask a guy to dress up like a pitcher and fake like a move to first and third? I would, of course, pay for the uniform.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

I, for one, would balk at such a suggestion.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

FYI: Aaron Fultz has issued the first balk of the season.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

We love balks.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

apparently not... y'all voted against the inclusion of the balk category.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Anyone have an ESPN contact? I just considered the possibility of turning my anti-season preview into a piece for them...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hey, if they'll print Jim Caple, they should print anything.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mark!

(I have no idea how open they are to freelancers, as I know the sportswriting world is very insular. But I figure that anything is better than Ralph Wiley's Page 2 column. When was it that Wiley, once a great SI writer, turned to shit?)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

haha no yancey i didn't mean it that way! i just meant after that stupid 'crazeeee clubhouse' story, well, uh.. arg.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

i know what you really meant!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

Bill Simmons columns are good.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

indie - baseball guilt time:

i boycotted MLB for 5 years (94-99) and was set to go boycott for life in 02.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

Fuck. I put in < hstencil > < /hstencil > brackets around my last post but they didn't show!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

I don't get that -- do hstencil tags make it sound like the guy from teen Flintstones with the rain cloud over his head or something?

Hmm, it is kind of overcast today.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yanc3y you shoulda thought of submitting that piece like a month ago, foo'.

felicity, it's snowing today.

hstencil, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

html tip:

use < and > for html brackets.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

they will appear as such: < and >

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 16:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

WHO HAS JUAN CRUZ?
WHO HAS TIM SPOONEYBARGER?

I DO, FOOLS HAHAHAHA If H stood for Hott you guys would be toast! Actually you're toast either way! You can have your Smoltzes and Jesse Oroscos -- the CDK pen has the finest young arms of our -- or any -- generation.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

h stands for hstencil

hstencil, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

When Superdrag played at the Troubadour in LA, they talked about how excited they were about the big orange "T" on the Troubadour sign.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF NAME IS SPOONEYBARGER!!!???!!!

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's a great name!

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

His name should be Spooney B

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

lawrence kansas Bermanism shocker!

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Isn't SpooneyBarger the name of some FischerSpooner tribute band?

hstencil, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 17:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

Phear my 13.50 ERA! (Blast you Dejean, I'm giving you a second chance)

Just like the real Giants (which I'd be stocking up on if gygax didn't nab JT which I was going to do last night but didn't, grr), I'm winning because of big offense and good looks.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 20:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

ya snooze ya lose!

homer gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 20:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

kelvim gives up 4 Runs (7 bases) to the Yanks in the top of the 9th.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 21:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

read as: quit complaining about your ERA woes, Leee.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 21:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

I hate the "it's early in the season" canard, but it really is early in the season.

hstencil, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

earlyist

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

That would be 36.00 degrees "kelvim."

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 21:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Why was Escobar even in? One of the old "give him some work" routines? Always a recipe for failure. I hate managers. And closers.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:01 (twenty-one years ago) link

they were only down 5 when they put him in...

maybe the thought was: hold them and try to make a run in the bottom of the 9th.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

They were shopping him to the Yankees, probably.

Anyone that badmouths the BoSox's bullpen-by-committee (and this incluses ESPNews' Steve Berthiaume, whose last name I can't bother to spell right because he cheesed my steak BIG TIME w/ some anti-Epstein sneering last night) (and this ESPECIALLY includes Red Sox fans, who should've learned over the past 90 years to itch that trigger finger some other way) (Poops, don't let me down, kid) is going to get a li'l Creighton in their Gubanich, if you know what I mean.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

i wish when the j's traded mondesi to the yanks that had just thrown in escobar. i can't wait untill that guy is gone
