There is quite a lot of pressure I think in the Spanish department to like Sambayabamba. All the social events seem to revolve around them, somehow, and all the staff and the students go on about how amazing they are. I have managed to avoid them so far.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, thanks Gerry, I think that was where I saw them, and why I have chosen to forget them. They were probably also involved in my one and only excursion into Glasgow at Hogmanay, but the sheer volume of alcohol that was needed to get me into Glasgow City Council's idea of organised fun would mean I wouldn't remember that either.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

the only time I ever went to the hive I encountered sambayabamya.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

As if going to The Dive wasn't bad enough in itself...(although I can't remember hearing Sambayabamba, I'm taking it as read that they are rubbish)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Who the fuck are Sambayabamba?

I looked in my wallet today and saw that I had a ticket for ESG, which I'd forgotten about. So that's good! (possibly).

I think I base my uncoolness on not having any idea what 'micro-house' means. Dastoor knows. He's coming over in a sec. I will try to steal his cool.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

sambayabamya.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't worry about not knowing who Sambayabamba are, since they so bad they are playing in the street outside the venue. Imagine being so bad that are you booked to not be in the venue, AND STILL AGREEING TO DO IT. I bet they're not as good as Murdoch, Jackson, Martin, Cooke and my old upstairs neighbour outside Bowlie.

I'm glad its not just me who doesn't know stuff about anything. I don't care about "cool" (I've just typed "cook" three times whilst trying to type "cool", but I don't mean it Al, honest), but I don't like it when whole big bunches of everything pass me by.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

SambaYaBamba - Brazilian Rhythms, Glasgow Style!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh, God.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

Today, Dot to Dot were described in the Metro as "belle and sebastian endorsed".

Tomorrow (in fact, later on today), alcohol permitting, I shall be trying Glasgow more.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 14 April 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

I will try glasgow, more, today.

what time are the festivities?

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 15 April 2005 06:06 (twenty years ago)

festivities for the restivities!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 15 April 2005 06:34 (twenty years ago)

Wear your endorsement with pride, Dotters!

When will we have Dot to Dot recordings? I'm surprised Mooro isn't distributing them yet. I think his label should be called Professor Mooro Arty.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 15 April 2005 07:11 (twenty years ago)

sot to sot.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 15 April 2005 07:36 (twenty years ago)

My several requests to Cookie96 for recorded product have been studiously, lively and steadfastly ignored.

He can dance to his song in a club but I can neither dance nor sing, nor get my pained ass up to a place to hear him play.

Sigh.

He is just too big a cool pop star for me now, I guess.

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 15 April 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

Our time will come, Mooro.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 15 April 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

doors open at 8. don't be late. or you just might not get in, what with all this crazy metro publicity and hype. woo! plus, you'd miss my amazing DJ debut. god forbid...

wolf eyes, ronan, and optimo, all in the one weekend!

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 15 April 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Glasgow is going to break the band for the next 3 weekends.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 15 April 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

It should be noted that Tim H arrives in Glasgow on 22nd April.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 15 April 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

Ah that's great! Tim H too!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

all this weekend needs now is ferrero rocher!

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

toblerone carte d'or

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Don't forget that all Popkins activities must be planned around a possible trip to Carlisle! Who are playing at Burton this week, I believe, so they'll be bouyed up by a comfortable victory prior to the Exetr game.

Oh look, I missed an 'e' out of Exeter! Now they look like a Primal Scream B side.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

They should make XTR t-shirts. They'd make a fortune.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

so, what's the 411?

jed_ (jed), Friday, 15 April 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

lauren and teamy are at stereo, waiting for a friend.

ally and me and cathy and patrick are in THE GOAT but there's nowhere to sit.

bot to bot are on stage at 9:30. does anyone, except them, care?

just kidding.

ally is crying, now.

RJG at THE GOAT, Friday, 15 April 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

awww...damn the tube strike :(

sarahluv, Friday, 15 April 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Ally is the Bez of Dot to Dot. Cathy's new hair is ace. No-one came to Pin-up Nights but you all lose because it means you didn't get to dance to Mr Blue Sky. We gave up on it eventually, went downstairs to the real Fury Murrys and danced to Guns'n'Roses and Tiffany and Madonna and stuff instead.

Cozen, if you see this, I have a great big stinking hangover, but I may still be going for a hair-of-the-dog type recovery pint. I'll phone you if I don't die before then.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 16 April 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

thanks for the mobile broadcast, ailsa!

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 16 April 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, ailsa. I think I have decided to like my hair, or at least to stop whining about it. Although when I woke up this morning it looked scarily like ihttp://www.gokuboso.com/blog/archives/chucky.jpg

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 16 April 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

my phone died, ailsa.

I'm sorry I couldn't receive your call, if you called.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 16 April 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

i want to see Cathy's hair!

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 16 April 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

I washed it and now I look like this again.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 16 April 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

The upside is that Ally Cook is a very lovely man, today.

Passive Little Mooro (Mooro), Saturday, 16 April 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

I see how long this thread is and feel like trying Glasgow again, even.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

I didn't mean he looked like Bez, rather that his role is to dance inconsquentially shaking a tambourine whilst others do the difficult stuff. (this may only be for one song, however, he does do stuff the rest of the time).

Cozen, I texted you after the match to apologise for not phoning you before it. You'll find out if your phone resurrects itself. I didn't know it had died, my condolences.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 17 April 2005 11:06 (twenty years ago)

http://www.kasule.co.uk/kasuleadvert.jpg

I might be trying this, in Glasgow.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 17 April 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying the extreme music from Finland next Friday myself.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 17 April 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

I would like to go to that. But then I would also like to go to the other thing, RJG has told me.

I do sing a chorus too, on that song. It's not completely inconsequential. I can't do difficult things.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 17 April 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

Yes you can, you can spell inconsequential, which is more than I can manage, apparently.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 17 April 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

I met Cozen at Dolly Mixture. He was rather freaked out!
That was a cool night. Three cheers for Sharon and her team and Dot To Dot!
