Yes, very possible.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 3 May 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

didn't realize it was happening across the board when i replied on the ILF/ILE filmtalk thread. feel free to delete it (+ my reply) there too if you want

jones (actual), Saturday, 3 May 2003 16:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

I can't see any reason to delete them if someone responds. It's not as if they are ideologically offensive or anything. I just felt we didn't need 100 copies of the message.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 3 May 2003 17:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Slight delay here, but here's the link containing the post where I want the email address deleted. Thanks.

Where are Birdland....

done

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 3 May 2003 23:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alan, I've written to you about the ILF mods thing above - did you get my message? Thanks!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 4 May 2003 08:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Can some nice moderator out there resize the pics in this post for me:

YIKES!?!?

Thanks....

hstencil, Monday, 5 May 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

We could put tags on them that restrain the dimensions but they'd still use up the same bandwidth because they'd be the same size. Best to resize them at your end if you wanted them smaller in both regards. Also, we could turn them into links instead.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 5 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

ed what have you got against playing silly buggers on a thread called "that thread's all fancy colored for me", i mean it's silly but it WAS my contribution to that thread, i spent a bit of time on it, and i made sure it was readable to everyone

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 5 May 2003 16:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hey moderators! And Alan! I've noticed a couple of times when going to administer a post, especially long ones, that when I try to "save" the changes nothing at all happens. I click the "submit" button and it just sits there and does fuck all. No hourglass to even indicate that IE is doing anything about it. No nothing. Any ideas what's happening here? And is there any way around this? (I've tried reloading the page again, logging off and then on, doing it from another machine, etc.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've not hit this at all, Sean.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

This is what I hit when attempting to Googleproof Calum's name at the end of some of Blount's swans. I didn't look at the HTML code, but I would guess that the problem is that the admin page isn't doing a POST where it needs to.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

I have also experienced this, though length hasn't seem to caused it.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's not about LENGTH, it's about WIDTH...

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

youmean its not how you use it Dan?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

Any chance of making the pic on this thread here: Black Nasty: C/D? into a link?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 02:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

I flagged the subject line instead. Though admittedly it's pretty dumb and may be a good candidate for outright deletion.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 03:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

Delete the fucker. Delete all hipster dorks while you're at it.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 03:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

doomie?!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 04:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

ah good times

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 04:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

i've fixed the editadmin problem. sorry about that -- don't know when that sneaked in.

I also added the ILF admins asked for.

If you send me e-mail usign ILX's webmail link (registered users only) it comes to my private address here at work -- if you use the yahoo one, I don't check that so much. I'll check it more often now though (naughty me).

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

i've fixed the editadmin problem. sorry about that -- don't know when that sneaked in.

Is that the one I was mentioning, Alan? Because I just tried to edit the same message I had in mind when I made the observation above:
http://www.ilxor.com/adminmsg.php?msgid=3524154
and it gave me the same problem. Maybe I'll try logging out and then back in to see if that fixes anything at this end.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

Nope, no dice. It just sits there, witless, after clicking the "submit" button on the admin msg page.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

No, sorry, that was a correction to the code/page to give admin priveleges out.

Editing that post worked fine for me here (I added some text, then removed it) -- I can't see what the problem might be. Other mods having problems? (If so I'd better make myself a regular admin login to check)

I could edit the post for you, but I'd rather fix the problem of course

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Let me download another type of browser to see if it's strictly an IE issue for me. I know that it's probably nothing to do with the message ITSELF, because I tried editing another message once upon an age to fix up some table-tag wonkiness, and got the same problem; Noodles was able to log on and zap the bugs without problem (I think).

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

Worked in Opera. Huh.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 14:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

tada. thanks. name and shame that browser.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 14:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Could some kind moderator delete my two latest failed attempts at posting a picture on the punk as fuck thread for pictures? I fucked up posting an image twice till I finally got it... actually the first time I've posted an image on here, so it took a couple tries

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

Done.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

So, if I change my name on ILX but keep my email address and my login name, will I lose my stats? I don't want my statscock to go flaccid.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 18:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think they stay with the login, Nick.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 19:01 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've always wanted the ability to read threads in a "paged" mode, so that very long threads can be read (e.g.) 50 at a time, with links to each page of 50, and a "Next" and "Prev". Anyone else?

It just occurred to me that this might also aid the ever lengthening threads like this one and the pic of yourself/what you listening to style threads.

I should juse get on with commenting and tidying before I start messing around, huh?

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 11:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think the paged mode idea is a good one, but what do I know?

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 11:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think it's a GREAT idea and I'm really smart

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

fair enough.

So what caused the server to run out of virtual memory, blah, blah, for about an hour there?

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 12:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

How much physical memory does the machine already have, does it have any slots free and what type of memory does it take?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 13:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

seems to have 256M physical memory,of which usually only 2 to 5 is free.
Only 14M of a 256M swap file is being used. hard disk space is no problem. Andrew is the one that knows the ins and outs of the actual hardware though.

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'd be willing to donate some RAM if it'll help and if I have the appropriate type. BOX OWNAZ REPRAZENT

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Man, I'd be willing to do anything to get the hamsters on the treadmill running a little faster around here.

Is there a PayPal fund that could be set up or something?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 17:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

Help! I just accidentally killed my 12-step anonymity on the "quitting heroin, how" thread: I used an anonymous name and email (as below) but forgot to log out, so my real log-in name is there grinning at everyone. Could you kill the log-in name and keep the post? Or if that's not possible, kill it all. And you'll definitely need to kill the post that I followed it up with, where I go "Damn, I just killed my anonymity." In any event, anonymity here is required, not so much for my protection but to protect the 12-step group from people like me being perceived as spokesmen for it in the public eye.

(I emailed Jess and Tracer, but if someone else sees this first, please take care of it.)

Lots of thanks.

Atheist, Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Which post? I can't find one.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

Someone just took care of it. Many thanks. (Though I was expecting to enjoy my brief notoriety.)

Atheist, Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

Can I draw attention to the "I Hate America" board? It looks like its been set up by Sean M Hall, the serious megatroll that hounds AAD from time to time. He had apparently been unable to get on ilX for a while (he claims his IP was banned) but has found a new account and is back with us again.

Can we blast him quick this time?

Lynskey (Lynskey), Thursday, 8 May 2003 17:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hey there
I seem to be unable to moderate in a recent version of IE. Just hangs as per Sean's description above.

In other news, I'd help you if I could Lynskey.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 8 May 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

Correction, was just a very slow response.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 8 May 2003 18:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

(I was the one who fixed the forgot-to-logout problem on the heroin thread.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 8 May 2003 18:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Can someone add a not-safe-for-work note on the Sarah Silverman thread?

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 8 May 2003 20:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

more Sean M. Hall shenanigans, as noted above. destroy please

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 8 May 2003 21:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Please, remeber if you link a thread/post here, we can destroy them quicker folks. To link a post you may have to click on show all details at the bottom left of the page.
