Yes, I thought it was going to be post-punk angular funk, like The Pop Group or something. But it now transpires that it is in fact superior jingle-jangle with a manic edge. Identifiably Glaswegian, I thought, kind of like The Sound of Young Scotland with senile dementia. I'm not surprised Murdoch likes it, the self-perpertuating ponce. Is Cookie96(tears) singing? I thought the chorus was very good. Well done, Dot to Dot. I think you should get a SUPPORT SLOT.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

On Friday, we supported ourselves. Quite successfully. We will almost certainly come to London this summer. Begin the preparations.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

sorry i missed you lauren. my excuse is boring as well as rubbish so i'll spare you it.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

Come to Maidenhead! Captive audience at Smokey Joe's!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Am I right that Maaaaster Haaaapkins is coming to Glasgow on Friday?

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Haaapkins begins the Devonian crusade in two moons time I believe.

I would like an MP3 of dot to dot, I think it would be a hoot

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

He gets in Friday lunchtime I think, and I can't leave work until four so if anyone without a job wants to entertain him for a bit please feel free.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Cool. I won't be drinking cider, but I will visit; although I do have a job so it'll be later. Maybe a cider-drinking crusty could entertain him by juggling, in the meantime. Can we assume 'plans' will be posted here?

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

I would like to take Tim to the Steps on Glassford Street. Probably just for one, because I think it's a Tennents pub, but I think he'll appreciate the decor.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

One Step closer to Belhaven.

I know. I know.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

!

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

wow. it's freezing here so any heat would be an improvement.

I get over on Friday morning at about 9, such are the times of cheap flights.

Is Tim going to come to the Arches?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

I don't know. There is football in Carlisle the next day, so bedtimes may have to be taken into account if he's feeling old and codgerish. Shall I text him?

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

what are you doing during the day on friday, ro?

I get home thursday night.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

my back hurts.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

football update:

Exeter can still reach the playoffs IF:

1. they beat Carlisle
2. any two of Morecombe, Aldershot and Stevenage don't win and/or also that Woking don't win by more than 4 goals than we do...

Exeter have the hardest game of the five teams fighting for the last two play-off slots...

i don't think i'm speaking out of turn to say that Mr H will definitely be attending said match...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

I can't support Exeter, but I will keep my mouth shut :)

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

Will Rozen/Conan be in the pub on Friday afternoon? That would be an incentive to leave work early, perhaps.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

Ronan. where are you staying?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

turns out I have an interview at 9.30 on friday, in aberdeen.

I should be in glasgow before, hopefully, 3pm.

afternoon pub is plausible. bagsy being conan.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

Mayer tickets are only £10 in advance (if paid with cash) from the Arches. I might go and get some after work. Who wants me to get one for them?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

me, please.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

I am staying in my sister's, it's here

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=254943&y=667551&z=1&sv=woodcroft+avenue&st=6&tl=Woodcroft+Avenue,+Glasgow,+G_11&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf

where is here? pretty central I guess.

I think pub on Friday afternoon would be good, though maybe not all day until the Arches.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Here is West End, not too far from town.

Nick, I suppose you should get me a ticket too. Is anyone going out to watch the footie tonight? I might.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Ronan, I work in the big yellow gap to the left of Chamberlain Road in the top left square! I would invite you to join me on the number 44 into town, but I suspect you'll have been in the pub for a couple of hours by then.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

I may be back home again, I don't know it's hard to plan!

Is it a bus journey away then? Or taxi? I really can't wait for this little trip, I haven't been away for a weekend in 9 months or so.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

sorry I mean, I may be back at my sister's, after a few hours, on my way back in!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Nick, I suppose you should get me a ticket too.

Such enthusiasm in one so old!

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Pl keep other out-of-towners posted abt the pub venue on Friday - I'm off to see the hairy Finnish hippies in the evening, but it wld be nice to have a drink w/ the ILX diaspora in the afternoon - cheers

I trust everyone who has posted on this thread is going to see Double Leopards and Wolf Eyes on Saturday

Andrew L w/ a fucked password, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

it is a bit away from the underground line. there are buses, yes, or trains, even. it is a bit away from the centre centre--it'd be a fair old walk. not too far from the west end, proper, though.

I hope I feel better, by the weekend.

get me a ticket, please, nick.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

The 44 will take you into town in about 20 minutes - you could get it on Crow Road or Clarence Drive. Cheaper than a taxi at one pound! And it's quite a nice ride, past the other university and a dinosaur.

Anyway, haven't heard from Tim yet. He is obviously a diligent worker.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

I should add that if anyone wants my mobile number who hasn't got it, email me at lucyalder c/o google's email service.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

optimo

Sunday April 24th - Jeans Team

We have a late addition for this Sunday and are delighted to welcome the return of electronic pop maestros JEANS TEAM from Berlin. They last appeared at Optimo back in the day when Optimo was temporarily residing at Mas and were most, most excellent. You can see some crazy clips of them playing live and the video to their current single 'Oh Bauer' on the downloads page of their site. Great, great fun and only a quid extra!

i'm going to see wolf eyes/tony conrad on saturday i think.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

I had a dream about Tony Conrad.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

it would quite difficult and pointless to overrate lara's [bum].

Oi!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

I cannot skive off work early, but we are having booze at work so will be suitably lubricated and can be in Glasgow by about half five. Can someone text me and tell me what pub you are in, or I will have to spend some of my last-week-before-payday money on top-up credit rather than booze.

I'm going out to watch the football tonight, Ally, but not in Glasgow. You can come to Paisley and watch it with me if you like!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

get well, soon, rich.

wolf eyes and optimo is so enticing.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

thanks, cozen, and sorry, lara.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

OK, have heard from Tim, who is planning to be (dum dum daaaaa) off the wagon this weekend. I also don't have to be at work until 10 o'clock on Monday, so might be amenable to more ruin than usual on Sunday night :-/

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 21 April 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

Hello! I am looking forward to trying Glasgow's patience more in around 24 hours.

It is my intention to see a bit of art on Friday afternoon, but that's thirsty work and so I'm betting I'll be ready to darken the doors of some alehouse or other before work kicking-out time.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 21 April 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

HI DERE! I GO GLASGOW!

I'm in town Friday & Saturday, possibly Sunday too (though I may be going to Edinburgh to discuss urgent & key issues with my real friends). I'm going to the prog rock gigs in the CCA on Friday and Saturday. What's this sunday gig about? Do I need to tell my friends in Edinburgh to shag off and go to it instead?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 21 April 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

jeans team were really, really fun when i saw them a few years ago. i would imagine they'd be even more so in the optimo atmosphere.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 21 April 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

oooh it's a veritable invasion this weekend! i wanna play! and drink! lots! preferably friday afternoon. i'll actually be in town and available from about 2pm, if anyone needs entertaining. not like i know any of the new arrivals, but as my gran used to say, there aren't any strangers, just friends you haven't met yet. actually, she never said that, but i read it on a bus once. so yeah. keep me in the loop yo.

dahlin (dahlin), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

I don't have my mobile phone.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

well, that's pretty silly.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

It seems that the art I'm going to see is in a kind of long, shallow triangular area with the CCA, St Margaret's Place / Bridgegate and Central Station as its points.

Someone should name a place at which we can congregate on Friday afternoon, if we wish to. Shouldn't they?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Someone possibly should. But I suppose we have to make sure that people will not be waiting around by themselves for hours in a pub if no one else is there. Will have a think.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

I have just listened to my second Dot to Dot recording, 'Dusty Cover'. It is more angular funk than the first one. My only criticism is that I can't imagine any members of Dot to Dot not wanting to be anybody's lover. I bet they're all straining at the leash at the slightest whiff of loverdom. Unless it is a song about a bag lady or some other form of fleabag. They would have a dusty cover.

Tim, you can see Whistler's brushes in Glasgow, if you haven't already.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

I'm amenable to getting pissed up on both Friday and possibly even Sunday since I am ON HOLIDAY for the next two weeks.

Let's get ready to rumble!

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 21 April 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

I am sick as a parrot that I'm not going to be in Glasgow this weekend! When's the next Dot to Dot thingummy? Is Renfrew street prepared for another invasion?
