yeah i've worked service industry but over here we have a system known as 'wages' that really prevents us having any sense of duty towards the customer

I've heard this brought up several times at parties and such and it seems like there is one in particular that always seems to stiff the workers to the point that even people of that race hate being assigned to those tables

in my somewhat limited experience this is usually an effect related to highly-localized or even neighborhood-related culture, especially in larger cities where people of different social/ethnic groups are more localized in some neighborhoods than others and tend to either have different local cultures, or they are more likely to be jerks when they leave their area

but you can go on about black people or whoever being specifically cheap and make it about race

my parents' fridge broke down earlier this year and they got a new one from sears

when they took delivery of it my dad was gonna tip em but realized that they didn't have any cash in the house since they always paid using credit card

finally my dad found $10 in ones and gave it to the two dudes (who had just shlepped in a giant refrigerator)

he tried to tell me it was okay because the one dollar bills were new from the bank and some of them were even consecutively numbered

yeah you got it pretty quickly which is making me wonder if/why this is a real stereotype, and yeah mh there's cultural differences but I've heard this SO MUCH regardless of how big the city is, and I don't think it's an issue of being cheap at all

I left some cash for my mom to tip the guys who delivered my washer/dryer, because that is a lot of work.

The dudes who dropped off my new tv, which I could easily carry by myself and wasn't a difficult task, didn't get a tip even though I agonized over it for the next day or so. Probably should have given them a $10.
