joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:28 (thirteen years ago) link

just JOE looking at a tornado (donna rouge), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:31 (thirteen years ago) link

also morbs if you don't mind a 15-min walk we can hit up gold coast after the film if you like!

just JOE looking at a tornado (donna rouge), Friday, 8 July 2011 15:34 (thirteen years ago) link

Just pace it out easily. I'll be away for a few days but will be checking in here and there as I can, so just keep the thread updated. I should be up there and free to do whatever comes up any time after 11 am or so.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:35 (thirteen years ago) link

that sounds good joe!

looks like Thurs will be combo of Nixon Lib & Sarah Silverman, insert joke here.

joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 July 2011 22:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Outdoor movies are not my thing, but Evil Dead 2 is showing @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery next Sat night! Will have to consider.

joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Monday, 11 July 2011 05:34 (thirteen years ago) link

they just played the entire trilogy at the egyptian but i missed it ;_;

if you get a good seat those cemetery screenings are fun as hell btw - bring lots of booze and a blanket and some snacks and that is a good way to spend a saturday evening

I should buy a beach towel or something, then.

And the Hammer Museum has this on TUES night:

joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Monday, 11 July 2011 06:48 (thirteen years ago) link

so I am here (I think that's the Capitol Records tower out the window)

And Car Wash is playing at the Hammer Museum tnite! That wd be a very disco move of me. The New Beverly has an ET/Close Encounters twinbill, but I am not spending 4+ hrs in atheater my first night.

joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Monday, 11 July 2011 22:29 (thirteen years ago) link

hey, did anyone tell you to check out larry edmunds (film bookstore on hollywood, near musso and frank's)? cuz you should

just JOE looking at a tornado (donna rouge), Monday, 11 July 2011 22:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Good lord, I feel like you've been in California forever . . . are you ever coming back?

Virginia Plain, Monday, 11 July 2011 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link

possibly to see the Mets next Monday night

joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Monday, 11 July 2011 23:10 (thirteen years ago) link

just JOE looking at a tornado (donna rouge), Monday, 11 July 2011 23:53 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, i will be at Sarah Silverman.

well, I am on the waitlist for an Upright Citz Brigade show at 11 (will head for Silver Lake if I don't get in). Motel A/C does not work. Had a couple drinks at Spotlight. Went in Amoeba long enough to price Kovacs box.

I have yet to catch a bus in this town.

joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 12 July 2011 05:11 (thirteen years ago) link

forgot whether i mentioned it on this thread, but i'm moving this weekend. we get the keys on friday but the moving truck doesn't come until monday -- we'll be carrying things over there in the interim. so, i'm happy to block out a little time to drink somewhere over the hill, but if any of y'all feel like coming up to the studio city area, even better. i know some great sushi places.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Surprisingly decent standup show @ UCB, esp this grizzled stoner named Colin Kinane (?) and this faux yo-yo king who did a few great slapstick bits. Was distracted by the sight of Dennis Franz in the 3rd row.

Went to the premiere of this on Saturday night. Worth it if you want to see home movies of Gen and Jaye, but not the documentary it could have been

This week in unintentionally funny FB updates:

my big weekend celeb sighting: the ex-governator, driving a convertible through beverly hills. he didn't look happy.

avenged benfolds (get bent), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 02:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I was looking at movie tickets for this weekend at "Rave" (in Westchester I guess?) and was wondering why all the seats were empty. I probably shouldn't even try it from downtown, right?

$4 carmageddon flights between burbank and long beach on saturday!

just JOE looking at a tornado (donna rouge), Wednesday, 13 July 2011 21:59 (thirteen years ago) link

btw I think I will be available for FAP on Saturday -- around 2? -- if ppl want to do that. Open to Hollywood, downtown, Silver Lake, I dunno.

joyless shithead (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 14 July 2011 08:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Sounds good -- just got back into town here and am catching up. Hollywood or downtown would be best for me, basically anywhere near a Red Line stop; 2 pm would be more than fine. Who's in?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 July 2011 15:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Hollywood, downtown, or even the Valley, work best for me as well, but I'll do whatever to meet wherever.

Cunga, Friday, 15 July 2011 06:18 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm down for 2!

may i suggest the federal for daytime drinking? it's one block from the red line in north hollywood, and i presume the bar is also open during brunch hours. upstairs patio and many many many beers, as well.

jesus and mary chapin carpenter (donna rouge), Friday, 15 July 2011 07:24 (thirteen years ago) link

sounds OK, THO 2:30 wd probably be more like it.

also, the Academy is showing Forbidden Planet on Sat night, but there are only standby tix!

Federal Bar -- sounds good! get bent might even be able to swing by!

http://www.thefederalbar.com/

A couple of other friends of mine have indicated they're in as well so I'll reconfirm with them. I should be able to get there right around two or a little beforehand; the upstairs patio/beer plan sounds perfect.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 15 July 2011 13:08 (thirteen years ago) link

i can probably do that! they have good gastropubby type food as well; bring an appetite.

Great!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 15 July 2011 15:39 (thirteen years ago) link

The Federal is ideal for me, so another vote for that.

Cunga, Friday, 15 July 2011 19:10 (thirteen years ago) link

I saw Samantha Bee about a block from the Federal this week, too, so that's a stealth vote for that location as well

does Carmageddon have its own thread? I am supposed to be taking guests to Disneyland tomorrow but I don't know...

I'm downtown so I can just take the 110 but I don't really know what the spillover's gonna be like

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 15 July 2011 20:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Disneyland is nowhere near the shutdown area! Where are you starting from, anyway?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 15 July 2011 20:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Highland Park.

Yes I know it's nowhere near, but I have no point of reference for how far back things are going to be jammed.

Patrice Leclerc Delacroix Poussin (admrl), Friday, 15 July 2011 20:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Let me put it this way -- you could take the Gold Line to Union Station then via Metrolink/Anaheim to Anaheim Station and a quick cab ride over and not have to worry about the freeways at all.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 15 July 2011 20:18 (thirteen years ago) link

yes
