Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Sunday, 21 December 2008 01:57 (sixteen years ago)

It looks like a good six or so out here, with no indication it'll stop anytime soon. Just praying that nobody loses their power.

Clay, Sunday, 21 December 2008 01:59 (sixteen years ago)

I hope the max lines are still running. I'm supposed to go do booze & board games at a friend's tonight, so i just needs to go from the 72 to the yellow line. Hmm.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Sunday, 21 December 2008 02:04 (sixteen years ago)

While catching about 10 minute of the local news hysteria I vaguely noticed a crawl at the bottom of the screen about MAX dififculties. You might want to check out the Tri-Met website.

Aimless, Sunday, 21 December 2008 02:08 (sixteen years ago)

If there is freezing rain, as predicted, somebody's going to lose power. I hope it isn't me. I am south of town, so I am further from the Columbia R gorge, which is the main perp in freezing rain events, so I have good hopes for keeping my power tonight. Good luck.

Aimless, Sunday, 21 December 2008 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

Usually the max stays up unless there's enough ice to freeze over the lines, iirc.

xpost, guess i'm wrong on that one.

Clay, Sunday, 21 December 2008 02:16 (sixteen years ago)

I'm close enough to downtown that I figure if I do lose power (which I never have at this apartment) it will be restored quickly. I doubt the city likes downtown going off-grid even briefly.

Clay, Sunday, 21 December 2008 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

good news everyone! the buick can get around in this mess!

so after testing the car up & down the street a bit, i found my iphone power cable. Both main and black & decker auxiliary batteries for the iphone are now at full charge, so i'm set.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Sunday, 21 December 2008 03:03 (sixteen years ago)

The ice has arrived. We lost power for about 5 hours this a.m. It came back about 30 minutes ago. It could go out again pretty easily. Luckily our house has a fireplace and we have wood. Because we camp a lot, we have all the stuff we need to camp out at the house, if necessary. We've done it before. We even have a kerosene heater.

I hope kingfish didn't stay out too late last night.

Aimless, Sunday, 21 December 2008 19:30 (sixteen years ago)

crashed at friends house after latenight boardgame and Bill & Ted party, took bus home since max train never came.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Sunday, 21 December 2008 19:41 (sixteen years ago)

Good day for a walk. Bad day for motorcycling. Stay warm.

Aimless, Sunday, 21 December 2008 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

kgw is saying another 1/3rd inch of ice today then 4-6 more inches of snow tonight. City's basically a wasteland until Saturday. The shit Greyhound is pulling with their cancellations/way they're treating the people they've stranded is totally disgusting.

My girlfriend was supposed to fly out to Chicago to see her family today. Flight was canceled, and they rescheduled her tomorrow... in Seattle. With no trains available and Greyhound shut down. A++, everybody.

The good spirits of Portlanders helping one another out has been uplifting, though. Hope you're all warm and well.

Clay, Sunday, 21 December 2008 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

Seattle just cancelled a whole bunch of flights right now. I imagine PDX would be in BETTER shape. SeaTac is not a happy place right now.

"Sustainability Sucks" T's Ahoy For Urban Outfitters Bootches (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 22 December 2008 01:23 (sixteen years ago)

Alberta St Pub is still open, so i'm heading there on foot to get warm and read a bit.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Monday, 22 December 2008 02:03 (sixteen years ago)

daaaamn and I was feeling sorry for myself cuz it is summer solstice here in Peru, in the upper 50's at night and pouring down rain. I will now feel better. I imagine Eugene is almost as fucked as PDX. I had read in the Farmer's Almanac that it would be a cold winter, but this is almost unheard of.

sleeve, Monday, 22 December 2008 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

Damn this place is jumpin'

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Monday, 22 December 2008 03:45 (sixteen years ago)

Eugene isn't bad. 40 and raining. Blazers had to take a bus down there to make it to Denver for tomorrow's game.

Clay, Monday, 22 December 2008 05:44 (sixteen years ago)

Hope the airport's running normally tomorrow; i need to fly to knoxville.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Monday, 22 December 2008 15:11 (sixteen years ago)

Made it to work with no problem. The Buick can conquer all this shit!

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Monday, 22 December 2008 16:05 (sixteen years ago)

aaaaand now my flight's been cancelled! hooray!

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Monday, 22 December 2008 18:34 (sixteen years ago)

You all think Lake Oswego is big enough to get the "Lake Effect"?

We've got more than a foot of snow piled up here. Another 4 inches fell on top of yesterday's ice. Yesterday's ice was on top of about 8-9 inches of accumulated snow. All the shrubs in the yard are kissing their toes. But I still have electricity, and a cellar full of food, so I am golden.

Aimless, Monday, 22 December 2008 19:54 (sixteen years ago)

Hooray! I made it home! Found out that the chains I had borrowed were too big and i needed a push to get out of the snowbank I was parked in, but it worked!

now i need ot figure out how the hell i'm going to fly out of here.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Monday, 22 December 2008 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

I was pretty gung ho about driving in this snow until 2 days ago when I very nearly didn't make it up the hill between SE Burnside and Stark on 60th.

I had plenty of momentum but the knob in front of me hesitated after the light turned green and I slid backwards 3 times. Finally put some Opeth on the Vanagon's stereo and made it to the apex on my 4th try.

Since then, I've just been cooking and building fires and staying inside.

Nate Carson, Monday, 22 December 2008 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

Okay, flight was canceled, am now waitlisted for next flight later in morning. This ought to be interesting, but i'm bringing my laptop and iphone(w/ aux batteries), so i should be set.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 06:26 (sixteen years ago)

Woo-hoo! Made my flight and the one afterwards(standing around by the desk = the most literal "standby" i've done in a while). Managed to escape the city and am here at parents house in Knoxville. Whee.

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Wednesday, 24 December 2008 05:47 (sixteen years ago)

Vault Boy Bobblehead - Drinking (kingfish), Monday, 5 January 2009 03:34 (sixteen years ago)

Snowing in the Seattle area!

The Reverend, Monday, 5 January 2009 03:52 (sixteen years ago)

Clay, Monday, 5 January 2009 04:16 (sixteen years ago)

so, uh, anybody know anybody who needs a place to live? The other two rooms in my house in the King neighborhood in close-in NE are empty, and landlord is getting increasingly desperate to fill them. Here's the CL advert:

kingfish, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

Seems like those rooms should be easy to fill. I passed the link along to someone I know...

We Fight for the Users
(MOVIES) Listen up, Hollywood: Movies shouldn’t cost $10. We don’t care if they have fancy computer graphics. We want what all Americans want—cheap thrills and beer. The Bagdad Theater agrees, and is hosting a weekend with the greatest computer-graphics movie ever:
Tron. Screenings are $3, but if you attend the 11 pm show on Saturday, Jan. 31, and say the phrase “Copy Blue Leader,” you’ll get in for $1.50. Same deal with Double Indemnity on the Bagdad’s $2 Tuesdays—mention WW on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and get in for a buck. Oh, and don’t forget that weekend matinees at the Mission (currently showing that new Bond thing) are always $1. Bagdad Theater, 3702 SE Hawthorne Blvd., 236-9234.
