Interview was fantastic, other than me fighting like hell not to come off like a fanboy.

First CInematic Titanic experience was pretty awesome. Especially the three bro-ey gay dudes in what appeared to be a Jules et Jim situation were making out two rows in front of me.

Just started watching The Rebel Set and so far it's much more entertaining than I'd expected. "Enough money to forget that you can't act." - "Hey, you're in this movie too, buddy."

Was just about to bump this thread to observe: I forgot to wear a bra.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Saturday, 24 March 2012 05:04 (twelve years ago) link

Mannnnnn, Rebel Set, what a bad movie! I mean I know that's the show's whole thing but that was one of the more shapeless and underplotted things I've seen on there.

Hahaha.

"Brrrrt."

"...I don't believe it."

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 April 2012 05:32 (twelve years ago) link

This really was the worst movie. At least Manos, Red Zone Cuba, Creeping Terror, etc had unintended camp/clumsiness.
Watching Monster A Go Go is like discovering credit card fraud in your account.

I laughed so hard at that ending.

Ditto, I could barely hear the terrible narration over my own cackling.

"Yes, I made that phone noise."

omg - - gunslinger is blowing me away. The "hallway" gag just piles up higher and higher.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 03:58 (twelve years ago) link

The two dudes at the beginning just sitting on the horses waiting for action to be called!

"And … cue horses!"
"Pffff . . . Corman."

BTW, Bill Corbett recently retweeted one of my tweets and it was the happiest day of my life. The end.

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 09:40 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, wow, overall that was a pretty good episode. (I'm watching these in little bursts before bed every night, thanks to Netflix's motley collection of episodes.) Some classic material in there and the host segments were pretty high-quality, especially the one where Servo is warping time and space for some reason.

Working through Giant Gila Monster now and some bits are slaying me despite the film's fundamentally boring milieu and visual style. "So this whole town revolves around towing cars?"

Also love Joel's thing of doing the Gila Monster's voice whenever they cut away to it, since the monster is clearly an actual-sized gila monster and never seems to be sharing space with the characters, so he just treats him as this totally separate commentator walking on and making periodic gravelly remarks and then walking back off stage. "You wanna bet I get blamed for that even though I was nowhere close?"

And, after the disclaimer in the opening credits: "Aw, man, so the gila monster's fictitious, what a downer."

hahaha i love that someone has compiled this! Although the funniest part really was that just as you'd forgotten about this gag, ten minutes later in the movie it'd pop out again.

Watched Future War, that was O_o so bad

Watching Laserblast now...hilarious! The love scene made me cry from laughing so hard, loving it.

Still can't get over the scene with the aliens killing time in conversation with their superiors. "Uh, your move sir, you called us."

Doctor Casino, Monday, 21 May 2012 11:37 (twelve years ago) link

future war is one of my favorite mike episodes. the showdown in the church is so delightfully stupid.

bark ruffalo (latebloomer), Monday, 21 May 2012 19:24 (twelve years ago) link

Best running gag ever:

Mike Nelson: [the sheriff in Laserblast bears a striking resemblance to Hank Williams Jr] Look, are you READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?
Mike Nelson: Man, I've gotta go home and get READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!
Crow T. Robot: Let's find out of he's READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!
Mike Nelson: What do we got, another citizen who isn't READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!
Crow T. Robot: Anyway, all my rowdy friends are coming over later.
Crow T. Robot: I just feel like you're not ready for some football.
Tom Servo: Anything you say can be used to get you READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!
Tom Servo: I'm not ready for football anymore.
Tom Servo: [Sheriff is cracking open a Coke bottle] Hey, he knows how to use a Coke!
Mike Nelson: [In tune with old Coca-Cola jingle] I'd like to teach the world to GET READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!

Hahah I do love that.

Perhaps second only to, "Wooooo, Packers!"

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Monday, 21 May 2012 19:31 (twelve years ago) link

Another brilliant gag from Laserblast -- Hank Williams Jr guy gets in car, Servo starts up a car honk noise.

My theory is that they had no idea if that was really going to be the last one so they went for broke throughout.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 May 2012 19:31 (twelve years ago) link

And the "PACKERS!!!" one was so insane, you could tell that was a bunch of Vikings fans letting out decades' worth of frustration.

My favorite thing about the "Packers!" gag is that it showed up in The Touch of Satan, in the scene in which The Giant Spider Invasion's Robert Easton shows up to conduct a witch-burning. ("Burn the witch!" "Packers! But mostly 'Burn the Witch!'")

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Monday, 21 May 2012 19:38 (twelve years ago) link

"Packers!" is definitely my all time favorite.

was talking to one of my oldest friends recently and when MST3K popped up in conversation it turned out that he has an uncle, Barry Schulman, who used to work in television and at one point was a VP at Sci-Fi, and he's apparently widely beloved by fans of the show for saving it from cancellation a couple times. very cool! he supposedly even got to keep some of the puppets.

I do hope they get back to completing a formal release of the rest of season one; they've done about half now and while it's definitely a woozier/slower show in comparison (but still miles beyond most of the KTMAs), it's still got some winners.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 May 2012 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

I tried to watch one of the season one eps on Netflix and just couldn't do it, gave up like five or ten minutes in. You got the spirit of the show but they seemed to be missing one great opportunity after another. Might have actually worked better in a way as a basis for people to watch with their friends and do their own riffs, which the show at its peak kind of doesn't leave any room for.

Man, I forgot about the Hank Williams Jr. gag, yeah, that was great!

Doctor Casino, Monday, 21 May 2012 20:11 (twelve years ago) link
