What private Stonecutters Secret Society superhighway tunnel are you taking where downtown to SM on the 10 takes 30 minutes? Summer traffic out that way feels like it's heavier than usual.

also to continue talking about traffic they just fuckin made the 10 to 405 north interchange one lane

Kind of on the fence. Yeah, I'm SUPPOSED to be there and of course it looks great and such an opportunity will not come around again, I just don't know if I have the energy for REDCAT today. I think I'm gonna go home and watch Breaking Bad with my wife.

I'd like to ask a question about cars. I know there are a number of LA ILXors who don't drive - jody, Ned,...Donna? What are your experiences, good and bad? I am thinking of selling my car as we still have three years of large payments on it and I can save those plus insurance plus gas, oil change, etc. and pay down my delightful studeny loans instead. Plus I am getting a bike, and can also get to work via one bus which stops right at the end of my street and then one block from work.

lol goat on table (admrl), Monday, 26 September 2011 22:49 (twelve years ago) link

Oh and we would still have one (paid off) car between us, but my wife would use that mostly to get to work.

lol goat on table (admrl), Monday, 26 September 2011 22:50 (twelve years ago) link

i get along just fine without one. the only time it becomes something of an issue is if i'm out late enough that buses run less frequently and i end up waiting longer than i'd care to to get home. (and i mean, no one likes a crowded bus, but they're also inevitable.) fwiw i live and work very close to two red line metro stops (takes me half an hour door-to-door to get to work from my apt), and i do most of my hanging out in neighborhoods adjacent to the subway (i.e. silverlake, DT, los feliz) - if you're on the west side - i'm not totally sure where you are - the story is probably much different. my roommate, for one, really wanted to move out here because transit options are not so great in palms. i also have a bike - likewise with public transit, i am optimistic that the lot of cyclists will greatly improve over the next few years here.

sons of menarche (donna rouge), Monday, 26 September 2011 23:07 (twelve years ago) link

I am in Highland Park between York and the Gold Line so I am pretty well served. Decent bike lanes too.

lol goat on table (admrl), Monday, 26 September 2011 23:08 (twelve years ago) link

in terms of cost-benefit, a monthly metro pass is $75, which idk how it stacks up against current gas prices (my guess is: decently?)

sons of menarche (donna rouge), Monday, 26 September 2011 23:09 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, it seems like east LA is benefiting the most from the new bike lane implementations, but i really, really wish they'd get to work on laying them down in hollywood

sons of menarche (donna rouge), Monday, 26 September 2011 23:11 (twelve years ago) link

oh yeah, I spend more than that on gas, plus I think my work might have a commuter plan.

lol goat on table (admrl), Monday, 26 September 2011 23:12 (twelve years ago) link

i feel that trying to see as much of the pacific standard time exhibitions as possible means i am going to be knowing the socal transit infrastructure verrrry intimately these next few months

sons of menarche (donna rouge), Monday, 26 September 2011 23:20 (twelve years ago) link

How was the show, Donna?

uhhhhhh (admrl), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 18:51 (twelve years ago) link

it was great! i'd only seen one thing of hers before.

queen latifah approximately (donna rouge), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

think i'm gonna go to the LACE opening tonight

queen latifah approximately (donna rouge), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

What is that?

uhhhhhh (admrl), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 18:57 (twelve years ago) link

And yeah, I wish I'd gone. I have seen most of Chick Strand's work (and was lucky to meet her very briefly). But man, I needed that rest.

xp oh ok

uhhhhhh (admrl), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 18:59 (twelve years ago) link

Looks fun!

uhhhhhh (admrl), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 18:59 (twelve years ago) link

Hi dere -- actually, Admrl, depending on what you'd want to sell for, my girlfriend might be interested in your car.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 19:44 (twelve years ago) link

ok! Probably won't be selling until the end of the year but I will let you know. It is a 2008 2-door Toyota Yaris, well taken care of, 60000 miles at the moment, never needed repair or had an accident. Great mileage. blahblahblah

uhhhhhh (admrl), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 19:47 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks, keep me informed!

Andre and I are having a pre-Halloween party on the last Saturday of October. If you're in L.A., stop by! We're in Studio City, a quick hop up the 101 from Hollywood.

I went to the MOCA opening for 'Under the Big Black Sun' last night, and while I was really looking forward to it - it was really underwhelming.

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 1 October 2011 22:04 (twelve years ago) link

gonna try to check out the performance art exhibit at LACE today, but it's already 3:06 and they close at 6pm.

East Village West opening at Royal/T last night was terrific. Go check it out if you're in Culver City:

that is a cool-looking show admrl but it is also the same night as alternative projections :(

vitameatawalloginavegamin (donna rouge), Thursday, 20 October 2011 21:59 (twelve years ago) link

Yes I know, unfortunate. But then again, opportunities for valorizing the past are going to be coming thick and fast these coming months and I choose instead to celebrate the future, because I am going to have to live in it.

simile for me now (admrl), Thursday, 20 October 2011 22:58 (twelve years ago) link

Plus I hate going to Hollywood on a weekend and this is like 5 mins from my door. Oh and I guess I pretty much have to be there.

Some of you people live in Eagle rock and like weird music, right? Shellac is playing at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts tonight and tomorrow with cellist Helen Money (who I interviewed a while back for one of my magazines). Check it out if it isn't sold out.

Midnight Maniac (J3ff T.), Thursday, 20 October 2011 23:06 (twelve years ago) link

I live in Highland Park and I am seeing Shellac

The Joshua Tree Highway 62 art tour is this weekend and next. I've never been because it looks like a lot of driving (even once you're there), but I've heard good things about it.

apparently theres a big fox shareholders meeting in century city today.. theres some protesters out in front of the studio but the cops and members of the media in rancho park across the street outnumber them by at least 2:1.

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 21 October 2011 16:28 (twelve years ago) link
