I'm taking the Giant-Angel way to the top, Felicity.

And hstencil, I just check box scores to see who the starters are and hope that they'll be starters for the next game. Better 'n noffink. (Hey, one night on top and I'm already giving out expert advice!)

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 17:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

I, for one, am grateful for the advice to start Durazo. I had completely forgotten about that pesky AL and the DH position!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 17:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

Dudes, ROCCO BALDELLI.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 17:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

People, you can find out the starting line-ups for a game by clicking on the link to your players' games, next to their name. For most of the day this brings up a preview page, but about an hour before the game (around the time managers submit their lineups) it switches to the lineups. Once the game is underway, of course, it gives you an updated box score.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 17:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

(this is how I knew that dumbass Jerry Manuel was already tinkering with his lineup, one game into the season)

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 17:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh Diamond, how would you like to be a Red Sox fan. We haven't had a set lineup for years.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

Who among you will weep for the Pockets
Who's lofty second place perch
has turned into third?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

Don't cry for me, lawrence kansas.
I was supposed to have been in Ninth Place.
That's all I wanted, not much to ask for.
I kept my Prior. Don't keep your Baez.
I kept my Prior.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Haha now do 'Rich Aurillia'!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm so good my poem
Doesn't even have
To scan well.

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

Colon getting roughed up by the Royals in a non-shocker!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

So I chose Baez
Running around, trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it to

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

If I were Rich Aurilia
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd hit in front of Bonds.
If I were Ruch Aurilia.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy Rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle Aurilia.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Fantastic. But I was thinking more along the lines of 'Don't cry for me Rich Aurillia / the truth is I never rated you...'

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

You write it, then!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:01 (twenty-one years ago) link

It won't be easy, like your fielding range
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your glove after all that you've done

You won't believe me
All you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
It's off to the waivers with you

I had to let it happen, I had to change
Couldn't stay in the league with no RBI appeal
Looking out on the diamond, behind the radar gun

So I chose free agents
Stealing home, trying everything new
But your BA impressed none at all
I never expected it to

Don't cry for me Rich Aurillia
The truth is I never rated you
All through my dugout days
My sad trades with gygax!
I kept my promise
Please keep your distance

And as for Prior, and as for Woods
I always send them in
Though it seemed to the league they were all I desired

They are mere Cubbies
They are not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love Dusty and hope Dusty loves me

Don't cry for me Rich Aurillia
The truth is I needed some pitching
All through the bottom third
My sad Cubbie relievers
I kept no promise if
Only they'd keep their distance

Have I dropped too much?
There's no one more I can think of to add.
But all you have to do is press submit
That every word is Bonds

hstencil, Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh my God.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

you like?

hstencil, Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

h and f are TEH WIN. fuck, i love you, i kiss you &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c. &c.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

h, that is filthy.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

filthy?

Leee, what's your teamname? And who can you offer me for Abreu?

hstencil, Wednesday, 2 April 2003 21:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm dying laughing at "Don't Cry For Me Rich Aurilia"

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

K-Rod is on fire, made his season debut in the 7th striking out break-out rookie Hank Blalock, then A-Rod, then Juan Gonzalez in 12 pitches.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 21:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

and then palmeiro rings his bell an inning later... oh well.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 21:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yo stencil - if you REALLY want to know who's going to start, Yahoo! usually posts the starting line-ups approximately 30 minutes before the game actually begins. Go to your team page, click on the STATUS link for the player you're curious about, and (when the pop up window goes P!O!P!) click on the BOX SCORE link (in the pop up, obviously).

ESPN's Rob Neyer on that bastard Baldelli:

It's not hard to see what people see in Rocco Baldelli.

He can run. Baldelli gets out of the box as quickly as any right-handed hitter I've seen since Bo Jackson.

He can throw. In the 15th inning last night, Baldelli prevented what looked like a sure go-ahead run with a perfect throw to nail Trot Nixon at the plate.

And he looks like a ballplayer. He's big and he's strong and he's got "the good face" (as old scouts like to say).

But can he field? Monday, he turned a line-drive single into something worse.

And can he hit? Tuesday, he collected three base hits ... none of which left the infield.

As you might have heard, Baldelli played 23 games at the Triple-A level last summer and drew the grand total of zero walks, which suggests that he's still got a few things to learn. And that's OK, because he's still just a baby of only 21 years.

So no, Rocco Baldelli isn't Joe DiMaggio yet. But it should be fun watching him try to get there.

(Note: I'm not really a bitter guy; I'm super fun & cuddly, like a Monchichi, or Squirtle. But mock interviews & typing up chemistry labs & infuriating comp sci professors make me LKDJLXZXIQOFDLKAPI. You understand, I hope.)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 21:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

Fucking A. It wasn't quite 7:05 yet and that shit locked up and I couldn't put Jerry Hairston in. Fuck.

hstencil, Wednesday, 2 April 2003 22:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Leee, what's your teamname? And who can you offer me for Abreu?

I am "Who needs pitching" and I'm offering fawning compliments about your artistry for Abreu.

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 22:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

that ain't enough, pal.

hstencil, Wednesday, 2 April 2003 22:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

is Doug Glanville enough? Jesus Colome? :^)

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 22:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

*sigh*
Dempster getting shelled, I'm down to the last of my three Reds starting pitchers (a converted closer no less).

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

oops, Matt Clement left his stuff at home!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

Jason Varitek = 3 run dinger! Joe Randa = 2 run jolt! A-Rod = 3 run jack! The Trophy Wives are on FIYAH tonite!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

Home runs are stupid. Offense is for losers.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Although that's kind of nice for Joe "Help Me" Randa aka the Joker.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

SPOONEYBARGER'S IN!

And who is that playing in Darin Erstad's uniform? I didn't even want him and he's like my most prodcutive player.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

SPOONEYBARGER'S OUT!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 3 April 2003 00:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am so proud of my bullpen hotties, Damaso and Fischerspooneybarger.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 00:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

Wow, 4 Ks for Brownie . . . maybe the Skinny Pups do know what they're doing after all.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 00:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alright, Zito better have a good game. I'm talking like 10 Ks. I'm DEAD LAST in my other league. Let's go!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 01:01 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm with ya, Diamond. Today's been good to my non-ILX team, but Barry going nuts would be great.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 01:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh, I see Fischerspooeybarger got rather lit up. That's ok, Tim, honey, you'll always be my #1 Tiger Beat Teen Mop-up Man.

It is a sad day for Chicago reality baseball. Come on Barry Zito! Get your Cuteball over for strikes!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 01:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Felicity in drop-Damaso-Marte shockah!

Biddle though.. hmmm, someone just picked him up in my other league as well. He must have done something. I guess I'm supposed to be, like, keeping up on this.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 05:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh fuck, he's fucking closing. No wonder. Damn I could have used a closer in that other league.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 05:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

yeah, well I was this close to picking up Crawford for what it's worth

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 3 April 2003 05:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

Who the hell is Many Turgid Corpses?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 3 April 2003 11:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

we'll always have second place :(

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 3 April 2003 11:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

How funny that Who Needs Pitching is leading the league in saves and holds!

Yeah, it hurt me more that it hurt Damaso to drop him but I realized I was missing out on a whole category of stats. Plus, I always liked Rocky Biddle. Such a cutie. One time he made a start aginst Mussina and Sports Center did a whole Rocky and Bullwinkle Moose thing.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

Many Turgid Corpses is Kris (BranchRickey).

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

He just swiped my waiver request. It's ON.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

(He did it like an hour before it was supposed to go through, too. Jerk.)

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:26 (twenty-one years ago) link
