I think it's interesting to vicariously experience these different states and mindsets in other people ... it's like exploration, satisfies a kind-of curiosity. Problem is actually getting too deep with it which is more dangerous with social stuff.

i enjoy people watching, but a far as loons like these the internet is abt as close as im confortable getting, theres a big diff between watching and interacting, actually relating to these fools would be p depressing imho

lag∞n, Monday, 6 February 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, that's some dark territory to get into. Like imagining how a crazy person thinks ... it's really weird and unsettling.

Spectrum, Monday, 6 February 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, my mom is a bit of a danger-seeker/tourist, I think. It's weird, but I totally get it.

La Lechera, Monday, 6 February 2012 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

these guys and their insular weird culture depress me!

I don't think it's actually that weird to compare how these people are fucked up to how we're all fucked up, like aren't we all part of a big cult called...america

If you are interested in the full commune experience you can come live in my home and pay my mortgage for me. I will cook whole grains and vegan foods in exchange. Namaste.

It took me almost all day to get through this thread. I think I am about 100 NLP videos away from being one of these people.

Hey now! There's definitely overlap between "people who teach yoga" and "people who suck up fringe new age stuff" but correlation /= causation.

Mordy you're stepping on my "organized religion is a cult"

― valleys of your mind (mh)

Well that's completely wrong so people should step all over it.

Frobisher (Viceroy), Thursday, 9 February 2012 20:35 (thirteen years ago)

Big organized religions = "Ecclesiastical cults" officially in all of social science. So I guess maybe you're both right.

But 'cult' doesn't really mean anything like the popular definition in religious studies.

Frobisher (Viceroy), Thursday, 9 February 2012 20:37 (thirteen years ago)

I think it's pretty obvious that cult on ilx just means, "shit that is weird."
