Having not read the books, I've heard that book 3 is bonkers (and I think the later books ignore entire characters?) so I hope HBO allows them to write season 3 with the understand that it will be concluded in season 4. Or else I'd imagine that the creators are pulling their hair out right about now.

According to rumor GRRM has told Benioff/Weiss how the story ends in case Tim Tebow gives him a heart attack and kills him before he finishes the books.

I feel very pessimistic about the chances for the books or tv show to reach a satisfying conclusion

honestly if grrm croaks it'll prob bode well for the TV series tbh. if they've got a plot outline (and the plot is the the series main (sole?) strength), then they can go ahead and shoot stuff without having to wait for another five years in the making 1000page bloat fest

I have my doubts, because there are way too many separate story threads going on and I can't see how they can all be tied up. I hope I'm wrong, though. xp

I agree with Nicole.

The book series is unusual to me because I've never read anything that was so utterly dependent on a big ending that ties up all the loose ends while blowing your mind at the same time. But by the end of Dance With Dragons, I started feeling very skeptical that this could actually be accomplished.

i hope this isnt a spoiler but dragons can basically continue growing for as long as they live, as long as they're not confined to a space that will limit their size.

basically i was just wondering if Dany's dragons are proper dragons or those little fucked up ones. like she finally gets it to fly up and its about to kill someone and then it just coughs up a puff of smoke and sheepishly shrugs.

I think they may try to stretch book 3 over two seasons. OTOH I think they should compress 4 and 5 into one season.

eh, I missed your comment about one episode, probably not a terrible idea. GRRM was originally going to just do 3 books which would include a 5 year gap in narrative before the conclusion. He decided instead to write out that whole 5 year period, which I think is largely covered in 4 and 5, so probably they can just be skipped right over.

i wonder if they can fix the pacing of Dany's story arc without messing other stuff up, i can't really elaborate in here but it's probably the worst aspect of the books

That's probably a good thing at this stage, the crossing the red waste part of the story is pretty dull. Can't wait for the House of the Undying though!

Really excited to see Brienne - friends in the US said she was fantastic.

i'm going to go ahead and assume the "House of the Undying" is a band that will be playing midway through an episode; not unlike Saturday Night Live or the Young Ones.
