I watched the first season in one sitting

You could p much burn through 10 seasons in the hospital recovery time after a colectomy (10 days iirc)
― tales from endoscopic oceans (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:47 (fourteen years ago)
I rewatched the first season in one sitting a couple of weeks before S2 started
I don't have the willpower to go, eh one is enough, I'll watch the next one tomorrow. delayed gratification is for weirdos, lol
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)
Having not read the books, I've heard that book 3 is bonkers (and I think the later books ignore entire characters?) so I hope HBO allows them to write season 3 with the understand that it will be concluded in season 4. Or else I'd imagine that the creators are pulling their hair out right about now.

no but it has to go forever
I need wolves and dragons
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:51 (fourteen years ago)
According to rumor GRRM has told Benioff/Weiss how the story ends in case Tim Tebow gives him a heart attack and kills him before he finishes the books.

I feel very pessimistic about the chances for the books or tv show to reach a satisfying conclusion
― Moodles, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)
honestly if grrm croaks it'll prob bode well for the TV series tbh. if they've got a plot outline (and the plot is the the series main (sole?) strength), then they can go ahead and shoot stuff without having to wait for another five years in the making 1000page bloat fest
― catbus otm (gbx), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
I have my doubts, because there are way too many separate story threads going on and I can't see how they can all be tied up. I hope I'm wrong, though. xp
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
westeros is purgatory
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:23 (fourteen years ago)
How much time passes between Game of Thrones and A Dance of Dragons? Are the kids going to age too fast for the story?
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:24 (fourteen years ago)
yes
― catbus otm (gbx), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)
how long does it take dragons to grow up
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)
xxpost
I think between those two is like 1 or 2 years
― Moodles, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)
Martin has actually said he wishes he made the kids older now
― Number None, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)
I agree with Nicole.
The book series is unusual to me because I've never read anything that was so utterly dependent on a big ending that ties up all the loose ends while blowing your mind at the same time. But by the end of Dance With Dragons, I started feeling very skeptical that this could actually be accomplished.

i hope this isnt a spoiler but dragons can basically continue growing for as long as they live, as long as they're not confined to a space that will limit their size.
― these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)
My Little Pony has confirmed this, yes.
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:30 (fourteen years ago)
so why were the last dragons small and deformed? xpost
― stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)
They were inbred.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)
and they didn't let them out to play
― Number None, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)
aah. were they trying to keep a bloodline or were they just running out of dragons?
― stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)
i heard the last dragons had the power of the glow
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)
basically i was just wondering if Dany's dragons are proper dragons or those little fucked up ones. like she finally gets it to fly up and its about to kill someone and then it just coughs up a puff of smoke and sheepishly shrugs.
― stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)
the old dragons were kept chained up in a keep, so their size potential was limited
― these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)
well that was silly.
― stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)
I don't think they really had much use for them at the time?
― Number None, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:42 (fourteen years ago)
should have used them like Teddy Roosevelt's white fleet of ships. just cruise them around Westeros.
― stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:48 (fourteen years ago)
smh if u cant find a use for dragons
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:43 (fourteen years ago)
If you have flying dragons and you don't spend all of your time flying around on them, well I don't even know what to say.
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:44 (fourteen years ago)
otm
'we're all out of Dornish wine, should we take a dragon down there to get some more?' 'nah, we'll walk it...'
― stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:49 (fourteen years ago)
as long as they're messing with the one book = one season thing, maybe they'll just do all of books 4 and 5 in one episode
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:09 (fourteen years ago)
I think they may try to stretch book 3 over two seasons. OTOH I think they should compress 4 and 5 into one season.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
I was going to say combine them into one season, but that idea is even better. xp
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
i feel like moodles' post should have come before mine
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
eh, I missed your comment about one episode, probably not a terrible idea. GRRM was originally going to just do 3 books which would include a 5 year gap in narrative before the conclusion. He decided instead to write out that whole 5 year period, which I think is largely covered in 4 and 5, so probably they can just be skipped right over.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:17 (fourteen years ago)
i wonder if they can fix the pacing of Dany's story arc without messing other stuff up, i can't really elaborate in here but it's probably the worst aspect of the books
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:18 (fourteen years ago)
man can we please just have a spoiler/speculation thread?

nice, reasonably subtle, good balance. and Natalie Dormer.
Speaking of which, I don't see it online but SNL did a sketch about a 13 year old boy consulting on the show to add boobies.

That's probably a good thing at this stage, the crossing the red waste part of the story is pretty dull. Can't wait for the House of the Undying though!
Really excited to see Brienne - friends in the US said she was fantastic.
― gyac, Monday, 16 April 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)
i'm going to go ahead and assume the "House of the Undying" is a band that will be playing midway through an episode; not unlike Saturday Night Live or the Young Ones.
