xp i think i like ilx for similar reasons, in that when i find something i love it's probably fairly easy to find an audience willing to give it a listen in some thread around here. but then most of my timjs have been located via ilm, so.

tho i do feel the need to resist making arthur russell my timj every time i listen to him.

what's this thing where people put a period before someone's twitter name?

When @username is put at the beginning of a tweet then that tweet only shows up in the timelines of people following the tweeter and the recipient. Putting a period in front is a way of getting around that to show everyone who follows the tweeter while also nudging the recipient.

if you just start with someone's twitter name the only people who'll see that are those who follow you both

Shit like this is why I dont use Twitter. I added one guy who fancies himself as a bit of a social meedja guru (blech) and he fuckin tweets like 15 times a day or more. Between that and people RTing shit everywhere (TMBG are terrible for it, Flansburg RTs more than he posts!), I got so confused ovcr what I was reading I just gave up.

Follow better people.

But don't unfollow max, he is the best.

Following better people is one thing, unfollowing should be done regularly.

Also use an app where you can mute hastags or tweets from certain clients, eg 4sq, spotify, etc.

Yeah tbf the most ive ever done is read it via the website, it just doesnt interest me enough really. Not into soundbite blogging.

Also handy is to block retweets by certain ppl. So you can see their regular tweets, but none of their retweets.

if someone who i don't follow has replied to me, why doesn't it show me their tweet in my original tweets conversation?

ie the only way i know they replied was because it forwarded to my phone text service.
