Carter's conservative containing shit against Maguire was painful to watch. Turning into Peter Ebdon is not a price worth paying.
― Keith pissed on my chips (onimo), Sunday, 6 May 2012 13:38 (twelve years ago) link
Next to O'Sullivan, everyone looks slow - Carter's still a way off Ebdon's slowest period (that was over 3 minutes for every shot)
― StanM, Sunday, 6 May 2012 14:10 (twelve years ago) link
It's not his speed, it's his consistent refusal of mildly risky pots. He had a red to the middle there that every other top player would have rolled in but chose to play safe. He and Ebdon would point out that he won the frame and therefore made the correct decision, I would point out that they're a pair of boring cunts.

Ali is trying his best to slow and bog the match down but Ronnie coming up with the answers so far - that 90+ break to go 4-3 was **unbelievable**.
He then followed up with a 141.
Expecting something special tonight.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 May 2012 17:12 (twelve years ago) link
Onimo OTM though. This passive/parasitic gameplan of Carter's is pretty shitty - ok, he looks like he's clinging on, but not because of chances he has created himself.
― StanM, Sunday, 6 May 2012 20:24 (twelve years ago) link
Would anyone WANT to win like that? Where's the pride in winning only because your opponent let you in a couple of times? Meh.
― StanM, Sunday, 6 May 2012 20:26 (twelve years ago) link
Ronnie 10 - 7 at the end of a scrappy session, it could have been quite worse for Ali.
Mind winning ugly? Ronnie is so good but you also know that ppl have gotten into his head so you need to come up with ways to throw his timing off. Its about being World champion only, nothing else.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 6 May 2012 21:56 (twelve years ago) link
OK, that's true, but I want to see either a close match or a total walkover, not this let's-try-and-frustrate-the-other-one-into-mistakes kinda stuff.
― StanM, Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:23 (twelve years ago) link
As it is, whatever plan Carter has is not being executed to any degree.
12-7.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 May 2012 14:09 (twelve years ago) link
It's all smoke and mirrors. He's letting Ronnie have a couple of frames, but then... BAM!
― StanM, Monday, 7 May 2012 14:30 (twelve years ago) link
Could be going home a session early - its that bad: 13-7
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 May 2012 14:31 (twelve years ago) link
So sick of these cuts away to Peter Ebdon sitting in the dark stroking a cat.
― Keith pissed on my chips (onimo), Monday, 7 May 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link
LOL'ing at this bit they've been showing now and then:
- bombastic orchestral music- heroic slo-mo shots of players descending the stairs- monumental shots of the Crucible- Ronnie: "meh, it's not that great a venue"
Reminds me of"camelot! Camelot! CAMELOT!""it's only a model"
― StanM, Monday, 7 May 2012 16:29 (twelve years ago) link
17 - 11, time for gameplan B
― StanM, Monday, 7 May 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link
Today, news sites over here mentioned Ronnie O'Sullivan's win over Allister Carter and I was like, wait, who? But apparently that IS his name. (if only they'd said Ronald O'Sullivan as well)

Dear mr. Virgo, please stop shouting WHERE'S THE CUE BALL GOING between the whispering bits all the time. Thanks!

Moved by Ken Doherty's return...

damn you, why did you have to draw my attention to the fact the snooker was on? going to be tough getting out of this armchair now.

mind you, while o'sullivan is around every opportunity should be taken to watch him go about his work
― imago, Saturday, 19 April 2014 11:23 (ten years ago) link
Trying not to think about going back to work Tues - I don't want to move from my sofa for the next two weeks.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 19 April 2014 11:26 (ten years ago) link
are doherty and bingham both trying to throw the match?
― ^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 20 April 2014 09:30 (ten years ago) link
not sure who is going to succeed
― ^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 20 April 2014 09:31 (ten years ago) link
That was horrible but looks like Ken is getting a grip on this match.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 20 April 2014 10:24 (ten years ago) link
yeah while I've been watching (last two frames) he's been nothing short of excellent
― imago, Sunday, 20 April 2014 10:41 (ten years ago) link
two simultaneous last-framers. and some casual sexism from one of the commentators :/ think it might have been Thorne
― imago, Sunday, 20 April 2014 21:32 (ten years ago) link
"so nice to see so many women here! of course many of the men will be excellent snooker-players themselves"
absolutely breathtaking final frame between wasley and ding there. ding hideously unlucky, almost clawed it back with some phenomenal snookers (three with pink and black only balls remaining)
― imago, Monday, 21 April 2014 23:05 (ten years ago) link
david gray, ian mcculloch, and now robbie williams! (and of course neil robertson)

100 * 100 = no handshake from Trump
― StanM, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:34 (ten years ago) link
Robertson has been terrific. Trump has hardly breathed from leading 11-9 onwards
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:35 (ten years ago) link
Looked like Trump would force a decider after Robertson gets a bad white but he could only force a 35 break.
Robertson makes no mistake -- terrific green to brown -- and dumps Trump out of WC, 13-11
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:54 (ten years ago) link
Robertson - Ronnie would be a terrific final. The former is the only that could touch Ronnie.
I said could.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:55 (ten years ago) link
playing like that, definitely could
― imago, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:00 (ten years ago) link
Nobody expects Hawkins or Selby in the final? (I don't either, but they are in the semi final, the can't be that bad)
― StanM, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:12 (ten years ago) link
Selby has a minor chance against Robertson. The latter is in very good form and can be unstoppable when he gets going. That comeback was v similar to the way Ronnie shifted gears against Joe Perry.
Glad Trump is out - the hype around him when he first 'broke through' was embarrassing.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 1 May 2014 09:22 (ten years ago) link
but they are in the semi final, the can't be that bad)
i dunno have watched a lot of the matches leading to the semi final they've all been pretty shit
― ^ 諷刺 (ken c), Thursday, 1 May 2014 11:10 (ten years ago) link
neil robertson probably the only one on good form.
Man, I still totally hate that "let's get the boys... on the baize!" guy.
― StanM, Thursday, 1 May 2014 12:11 (ten years ago) link
It's like the Sean Murphy game: Ronnio isn't playing at his best, not by a very very long way, but he's 6-2 in front...
― StanM, Thursday, 1 May 2014 15:14 (ten years ago) link
lol, Ronnio typo
― StanM, Thursday, 1 May 2014 15:15 (ten years ago) link
I think he's personally responsible for half of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_snooker_player_nicknames
― pick it up for ripple laser (onimo), Thursday, 1 May 2014 15:50 (ten years ago) link
"barry hawkins to break" - he already has, I'd say.
― StanM, Friday, 2 May 2014 09:44 (ten years ago) link
Hilarious, he has basically annihilated anybody bar Joe Perry...no traces of a tortured soul at all. He has actually become efficient and frightening to play in the last couple of years, virtually no 'incidents'.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 2 May 2014 10:32 (ten years ago) link
Oh, and another thing: headset wearing punters laughing because the BBC pundits are cracking jokes: dud.
― StanM, Friday, 2 May 2014 12:27 (ten years ago) link
Snooker player nicknames are the worst. Did we poll some of them once? We should.
― ailsa, Friday, 2 May 2014 12:42 (ten years ago) link
Robbo is The Centurion now? Groan.
― StanM, Friday, 2 May 2014 13:37 (ten years ago) link
Robertson has lost his way in the match - long potting gone astray.
Selby on the way to 10-6. No biggie, plenty of time to pull it back.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 2 May 2014 16:51 (ten years ago) link
Selby has broken down on 53, great chance for Robertson!!
