My favorite thing about the "Packers!" gag is that it showed up in The Touch of Satan, in the scene in which The Giant Spider Invasion's Robert Easton shows up to conduct a witch-burning. ("Burn the witch!" "Packers! But mostly 'Burn the Witch!'")

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Monday, 21 May 2012 19:38 (twelve years ago) link

Perhaps second only to, "Wooooo, Packers!"

"Packers!" is definitely my all time favorite.

was talking to one of my oldest friends recently and when MST3K popped up in conversation it turned out that he has an uncle, Barry Schulman, who used to work in television and at one point was a VP at Sci-Fi, and he's apparently widely beloved by fans of the show for saving it from cancellation a couple times. very cool! he supposedly even got to keep some of the puppets.

Now I kinda want to go home and do a Laserblast/Hobgoblins double feature.

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Monday, 21 May 2012 19:43 (twelve years ago) link

Ha, tell your friend from all of us that his uncle is an angel of light.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 May 2012 19:47 (twelve years ago) link

I want to as well, that would be awesome. I wish I had the time to do that. xp

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Monday, 21 May 2012 19:48 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i don't think my friend is overly familiar with the show but i was just like WOAH THAT IS SO COOOOOL (xpost)

I do hope they get back to completing a formal release of the rest of season one; they've done about half now and while it's definitely a woozier/slower show in comparison (but still miles beyond most of the KTMAs), it's still got some winners.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 21 May 2012 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

I tried to watch one of the season one eps on Netflix and just couldn't do it, gave up like five or ten minutes in. You got the spirit of the show but they seemed to be missing one great opportunity after another. Might have actually worked better in a way as a basis for people to watch with their friends and do their own riffs, which the show at its peak kind of doesn't leave any room for.

Man, I forgot about the Hank Williams Jr. gag, yeah, that was great!

In Laserblast I thought the music was real cool, specifically a tune playing on the radio in the van. So I went online to seek it and boom there it was on iTunes store! "Billy's Radio #1." Also features the hits "Grandpa and Kathy," "Billy and Kathy," "Tony Discovers Black Spot," "Love Theme After Fight," and "Billy in Mirror/Chuck Goes to Car."

andrew m., Monday, 21 May 2012 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

oh god the music jokes in that were killing me

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 21 May 2012 20:25 (twelve years ago) link

also the car rolling through the gas station "help our accelerator's stuck"

"Billy Preston takes a solo."

Went camping at one of our beautiful lakes a few weekends ago with some friends. Boated out to a place they had camped before and named Spider Island. Which got me all excited and go "Spider Island, home to the stars!" They didn't get it, of course, not being a nerd about it like I am. Had to keep the refs to myself all weekend. It was torture!

andrew m., Thursday, 24 May 2012 14:27 (twelve years ago) link

Did you get hot, beefy and sweaty? Were all your friends sultry dancers?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 May 2012 14:43 (twelve years ago) link

We had that first part down pat. The second, not so much. I did sing the "Gary, Gary" song to myself a few times.

I wonder how much people paid to attend riff camp. The idea just seems strange to me.

one month passes...

I've been watching (probably re-watching) these and yeah the Joel years are miles away better than the Mike years. At least in the overarching narrative/connective skits. You just can't beat Dr. Forrestor and TV's Frank as villains. I think season 3 is my favorite (Pod People still being my favorite ep).

Godzilla vs. Rodan Rodannadanna (The Yellow Kid), Friday, 3 August 2012 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, watch seasons 2-7 instead.

Eric H., Friday, 3 August 2012 19:52 (twelve years ago) link

Just kidding, I actually haven't watched much of the KTMA's tho. Can't really seem to settle into them.

Eric H., Friday, 3 August 2012 19:53 (twelve years ago) link

really disappointed in the meager selection streaming on Netflix atm

andrew m., Friday, 3 August 2012 19:56 (twelve years ago) link

The KTMAs are weird and mixed but there are a few I would earmark:

Phase IV
Cosmic Princess
Humanoid Woman
SST Death Flight
The Six Million Eyes of Su-Muru

The Gamera eps are all pretty classic

I've only seen a couple but I didn't get the point. Why not just rent the original B-movies and come up with your own sarcastic comments?

LOL. Why go to the park and fly a kite when you can just pop a pill?

I'm watching "Space Mutiny" for the first time. 10 mins in and it's already amazing.
