dyson (dyson), Thursday, 3 April 2003 16:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alas, we're slow of foot and lack closing ability.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 3 April 2003 16:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mike DeJean just became available!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 16:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

How funny that Who Needs Pitching is leading the league in saves and holds!

I'd just like to thank Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, without whom Robb Nen would be closing for the Giants now instead of Worrell.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 April 2003 16:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

go Cubs

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 17:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've suddenly realized that I have three Cub players on my roster. I must know something.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 3 April 2003 17:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

I just don't know what it is.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 3 April 2003 17:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

my guys are on a slugging streak but my lack of A-rate pitchers is glaringly apparent.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 3 April 2003 18:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

I should have spelled MarKKKKKKK with more Ks!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 18:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

Not to kill yr enthusiasm, felicity, but I would hardly call 104 pitches in 4 innings with 7 ks a great day... The boy has gotta learn not to try to strike everyone out!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

Who did you get for Prior in your keeper league again? Trevor Hoffman or someone?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Even worse. Washburn. (at the time it was a good trade though, cuz I was gonna make the playoffs and Prior was done for the year. Washburn was hot, and I wanted to make a run for the $1000 prize. I totally regret it now, obviously. I still gots a mancrush on Marky Mark tho)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

3) Mark Prior for Jarrod Washburn (I was in the middle of the playoff race (top prize in my league is $1000) and wanted one more arm . Thinking of what happened to Kerry Wood (and $1000), I dealt Prior. I missed the playoffs by a miniscule amount. Twas dumb)

-- Yanc3y (ystr1ckl3...), February 13th, 2003.

HAHAHAHAHA!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

I want to see Mark's single tonight. He can hit.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

NOTE: when addressing baseball-related posts to felicity avoid using words like "hot" to describe a player's performance.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

How the hell did that get posted twice, but the second time with a "3)" beside it??? Weird.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

(k. that one was on purpose)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

Surely 6 IP? Pitches-strikes: Prior 105-70 -- you bitter man.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Prior only went 4? Can't get the win then.

Jose Valentin MVP watch: 3-4, 2hr, 3b, 4 rbi

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

haha, Yanc3y, I cut and pasted that second one from February! You are a bot.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

ATTENTION EVERYONE: PRIOR WENT SIX -- COUNT 'EM -- SIX TODAY, GOT THE W AND STRUCK OUT 7

sheesh, Yanc3y, the Baseball Almanac you're not.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

According to CBS Sportsline's monkey box scores, his line was:

4.1 IP 104 Pitches 4 Hits 1 ER 2 BB 7 SO

But they are often wrong.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am a bot!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

Enjoy your Jarrod Washburn.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

HUSH!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Forget everything I ever said positive about the White Sox. They blow.

Exhibit B why I hate closers and saves is a meaningless category: Billy Koch.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

D. Marte 0.1 0 2 2 1 0 0 27.00

I dodged a bullet!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

Billy Kock, Mike DeJean, Jose Jiminez = why a "tanking saves" strategy may have been appropriate this year.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

As a fan of set-up/mop-up specialists, I prefer "blow and vulture."

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

sosa almost got 500... almost.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hatteberg, you suck.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm going with a "tanking pitching stats" strat. Kevin Millar i luv u!

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Except for holds. I will rock you with holds.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'll trade you my brilliant rejected team name "Holds Win Pennants," Torii Hunter and Rocky Biddle for Paul Lo Duca and Danny Graves.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Actually, I don't understand why you have Graves as a SP. SHould he be racking up the saves for you?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:52 (twenty-one years ago) link

m m m . . . Danny Graves :)

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

felicity: who would field yr ALL HOTTIE TEAM?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 20:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

SD starter Jake Peavy: 7 SOs in 2.1 innings against the Dodgers so far. Holy shit. (and for further embarrassment: i also dealt him in that prior-washburn deal...)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh yeah, the Padres are the new Marlins with their young pitching. I have lusted after Jeremy Fikac for a while . . .

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Well I know Bean e snapped him up but I was a fan before that.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

I have often thought about the All-Hott team. Believe. I'll have to review everyone's eligibility and get back to you.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hmmm.. are you high on Peavy Yanc3y? He's still available in my other league.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

ladies and gents, HERE COME THE ROYALS

maura (maura), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

I definitely am. Last year he pitched pretty well. He's a SO guy who probably won't get many wins (being that it's the Pads, after all), but should be reasonably solid. My guess though: next year or the year after he'll really explode.

Would A-Rod start at SS for you, felicity? Do you take into account their ability when surveying the entire "package?"

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

ugh, 84 pitches in 4 innings though. 4 BB. That's living dangerously...

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

True. It's the classic young pitcher problem (see Prior): Trying to strike everyone out. Though it seems that Peavy nearly does!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

I do not like A-Rod at all and I only know things about him because he is a good player and brings a lot of publicity to baseball. He was the only play I set my default Yahoo draft to skip over. When I shopped for mitts there were so few I could look at because the good Rawlings ones are mostly A-Rod and Jeter.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 22:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

ROCCO BALDELLI

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 3 April 2003 22:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Wow. 5IP. 11k. Wow.

As for Graves, the Reds are trying to Lowe him into a starter.
