I'll have you know my ovaries are extremely well-behaved; veritable paragons of polite ovarian society.

Michael White, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link

The ovaries are fine, but I'm prone to brain farts now.

back pain... bruised rib?

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link

Have you banged a rib?

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:21 (twelve years ago) link

Not that I remember ... had a sidewalk fall about 6 weeks ago but I'm positive I landed on knees.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:25 (twelve years ago) link

I always have back pain. I just attribute it to "lol old, also sit up straight dummy" at this point.

Had surgery three weeks ago to correct a compressed ulnar nerve in my left arm. Incision is taking it's sweet time healing all the way.

The rest of my 40s are going to suck, aren't they.

Saggy mattress? I can definitely trace my back pain to mattress + increasing girth.

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I try to sleep flat on my back w/a pillow under my knees when I get back pain.

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:36 (twelve years ago) link

well I sleep with my bed titled to ease the acid reflux. But yeah, mattress is old and crap.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:39 (twelve years ago) link

Tilted means your back is still bearing weight.

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:44 (twelve years ago) link

usually sleep on my side (the right since pain started obv)

but pain is not as bad as it was in January.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:47 (twelve years ago) link

Seen a chiropractor at all or anybody, really?

le ralliement du doute et de l'erreur (Michael White), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:52 (twelve years ago) link

as an ILXOR in my 40s, I can confirm that GOOD POSTURE is urgent and key - even making the effort to sit up straighter at yr desk can have a tremendously positive effect on neck and back pain

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:58 (twelve years ago) link

I sleep on my side as well, and trial and error has led to this successful formula: an extra pillow to straighten my neck, and a pillow between my legs to elevate my top leg and straighten my spine. I'm still grinked up in the morning, but it eases by my 2nd cup of coffee.

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 17:45 (twelve years ago) link

This is driving me fkin CRAZY. I just got new frames, which I love, but I only get to wear em 15% of the time. I opted not to get the progressive lenses bc I was afraid it would be annoying but...

Also damn but I (b.1970) spent 2012 feeling just physically OLD.

I feel great, I realize I'm fortunate to remember things other people don't, and I wouldn't trade that for anything. My sister doesn't remember our grandfather, for example - he died in 1975. I think she feels this loss, it's a piece of her history she can only access through pictures.

on the plus side - I've felt so jaded in my 40's, that rather than worrying about illness and mortality, I started thinking: let's not be so reductive about death here.

That's me now on office days in orbit (not that I'm particularly proud of it) but I do a 45 minute bike ride in the process so by the time I'm there I'm pretty awake and ready for the coffee.

nashwan, Thursday, 10 October 2024 14:47 (one month ago) link

!!! That would be lovely! Walking is painful and difficult for me, that's the thing I can't do without 20 mins of stretching. But cycling...you could talk me into cycling.

Bout to make make some hot tea and hold the mug against my sternum for maximum coziness. No one will be able to tell me anything until spring. I'm fine with ending my 40s with a couple of years of this.

lol, y'all ever hear about this?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexually_induced_sneezing

Another possible explanation concerns the existence of erectile tissue in the nose, which may become engorged during sexual arousal, triggering a sneeze. Cranial nerve zero (autonomic) is also located in the nasal cavity. Its purpose is unknown, but it is thought to play a role (or used to play a role) in detecting pheromones.[1]

oh that's cool apparently my nose gets hard-ons?!?

I graduate in a few weeks into the next thread … definitely a lot of changes in the past 10 years… I have kinda become a morning person, I am definitely having to pay way more attention to what I eat out of sheer lizard brain necessity, sitting cross legged on the floor with no back support isn’t something I can do for long periods of time anymore… I am trying to be self-aware about cultural change, language change, and not have knee-jerk old person responses to it … sometimes I feel like a character in “slip sliding away”

I've been able to clear out impacted wax since then with one of those kits from the grocery store with the fizzy solution and the ear bulb. it took a few tries and some patience. much cheaper than the ent, even with insurance, and just as effective.

I tried this and I must have squeezed the catheter pump thing too hard or something because I got really dizzy and had to lie down. This was years ago, and an isolated incident (the dizziness, I mean)

Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 13 October 2024 22:21 (one month ago) link

tbf that can happen even when the ENT does it with the (highly technical term) suction thingy. It usually passes pretty quickly for me.
