I went to Bennigan's in the late nineties because it was the only place with 25 beers in tap and another 175 bottled.

One year I couldn't go home for Thanksgiving and didn't realize that the grocery store would be closed so wound up having to eat at Boston Market by myself. It was the saddest Thanksgiving ever.

That is sad! Was Boston Market the only place that was open?

My first date as a teen was at TGI Friday's

Moodles, Friday, 16 November 2012 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

i mean, i definitely ate at all these joints and worked at a few too! I think i did a year at The Cooker and definitely a year at an Applebee's.
The thing is that once you eat and work there and then move to a place where they're not your only option, you develop a deep abiding dislike of them as institutions and places to eat. It's not "Oh these yokels with their underdefined tastebuds"; it's "why in god's name would you go there when there's literally a thousand different options in walking distance"

Everybody did shit, art happened! (forksclovetofu), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:22 (twelve years ago) link

PF Chang's is classic "somebody at the office has a birthday let's do lunch" place.

Loved Chi Chi's as a kid, but c'mon it was pretty gross

Moodles, Friday, 16 November 2012 15:22 (twelve years ago) link

x-posts Boston Market was, in fact, the only place that was open and tbh I was really glad it was because if it hadn't been the whole thing could have been a lot sadder. Maybe. I mean it was my own damn fault for thinking that the grocery store would be open but I was 21 and didn't know anything so.

They have several entrees named like "oriental chicken salad" at Applebees. I felt vaguely uncomfortable when looking at that on the menu.

Probably mentioned this before elsewhere, but I used to work with a dude who had been to nearly every Rainforest Cafe. He and his wife would plan trips that coincided with locations. They even went to one in London.

The last time I ate at a Hard Rock Cafe it was for a work-related event -- I think I ended up eating something like $50 worth of food because I was pregnant and I would eat constantly no matter how bad the food was.

this will surprise many (Nicole), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

Hard Rock Cafe is brilliant, a shitty, overpriced chain restaurant that actually masquerades as a tourist destination.
