There are tons of animals in it, and as a cuteoverloadist that helped me make it through

gere was widely liked in 'trage wasnt he?

Yeah, he got good notices for sure, but he's not getting a nomination over Day-Lewis, Phoenix, Washington, Hawkes, Jackman, and Cooper unless he starts winning crix awards.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:11 (eleven years ago) link

Kind of feel like Life of Pi has the Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close slot sewn up.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:12 (eleven years ago) link

haha yeah

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:13 (eleven years ago) link

I don't remember thinking Extremely...Close would've been improved much by smoking up beforehand.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:32 (eleven years ago) link

A supporting nod could go to William H. Macy, as his parish priest.

This ... is almost boring enough to actually happen.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:32 (eleven years ago) link

god is bradley cooper really gonna get a nom

turds (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:36 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe. I don't think Phoenix is nearly the lock everyone else does.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:37 (eleven years ago) link

he's gotta get a nom nom nom

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 27 November 2012 23:37 (eleven years ago) link

Yes. He's fat.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 10 films remain in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 85th Academy Awards®.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:

“The Amazing Spider-Man”
“Cloud Atlas”
“The Dark Knight Rises”
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”
“John Carter”
“Life of Pi”
“Marvel’s The Avengers”
“Prometheus”
“Skyfall”
“Snow White and the Huntsman”

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:01 (eleven years ago) link

Figured The Impossible would get in there a la Hereafter.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

guessing life of pi will win that one (haven't seen it but the teaser was impressive)

abanana, Thursday, 29 November 2012 21:06 (eleven years ago) link

In my opinion the best visual effects are those that you don't notice, and Life of Pi had several effects that looked pretty bad to me. Would go with Prometheus or Skyfall or TDKR or Avengers over it.

Whatever blocks The Hobbit.

Yeah, I've got my fingers crossed that the computerized system leads to more than a few octogenarian voters begging off voting this year.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

I thought you wanted Lincoln to win? despite your sight-unseen love for my least fave Amerikan propaganda vessel.

The oldies can submit paper ballots.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:14 (eleven years ago) link

Betting today's oldies would probably prefer Argo. It's sort of like that "'70s, '80s and today" radio station tagline.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:20 (eleven years ago) link

I wonder if the online system was set up to discourage older voters.

this will surprise many (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:22 (eleven years ago) link

oh, the deadline for requesting paper was in December.

If it gets Moonrise or even The Master into BP ahead of Argo and Les Shiz, OK.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:24 (eleven years ago) link

they figured since Borgnine died everyone younger is tweetin'

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

If it gets Moonrise or even The Master into BP ahead of Argo and Les Shiz, OK.

I don't know if younger voters are necessarily any more discerning.

this will surprise many (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:27 (eleven years ago) link

Forget Moonrise, I'm gunning for an Oogieloves bid.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:33 (eleven years ago) link

I saw the Oogieloves movie at Target this week! It might have momentum behind it.

this will surprise many (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

Nathaniel's final pics. He sez Maggie Smith, Eddie Redmayne, Helen Hunt, and Kidman are in, McConaughey and Phoenix likely out.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:32 (eleven years ago) link

Redmayne seems a truly no-guts-no-glory pic, to use the term SS fixates on. Also don't think Django votes are splitting three ways but, rather, two. Could see both Waltz and DiCaprio getting in over DeNero or maybe Arkin.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:38 (eleven years ago) link

(Hah, I'm now seeing Nat explicitly calls Redmayne his NGNG pick.)

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:41 (eleven years ago) link

Man, I'd love to see Jennifer Ehle in supporting actress, but I think she's got the longest odds of his on-the-bubble candidates.

jaymc, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:42 (eleven years ago) link

(In that category, at least.)

jaymc, Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:49 (eleven years ago) link

Unless Dowd scores a coup, I'm likely not going to be thrilled with anyone in that category. Swap in the entire female cast of Cosmopolis in my opinion.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 14:54 (eleven years ago) link

not zackly sure why The Master fell off so dramatically from its This Year's Tree of Life start.

I lasted 25 minutes w/ Compliance.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:35 (eleven years ago) link

Probably because it's nowhere near as good as Tree of Life.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:38 (eleven years ago) link

we disagree there but it's the Oscars, honeybunch

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:44 (eleven years ago) link

No, it's life we disagree on.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

Spielberg and Aldrich are part of life!

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 January 2013 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

Pretty sure one of those two are dead.
