did you at least smoke a lot of pot?
I think the first time I smoked pot was roughly summer of 1970. Didn't do much for me. My friends included several 'heads', but I was just a dabbler. My older brother was into it pretty far by 1971. He still tokes up now.
I didn't really get launched as a pot smoker until college, where I spent most of 1974 stoned. Made my own bong from a glass lab beaker. I quit entirely around 1977 or so. I can't say I miss it.
and at least know a kid like trip fontaine?
Hard to say, because I don't have a clue who trip fontaine is. I did know a lot of druggies and hippies in the 70s. They were as common as daisies back then.

It turns out I have an "unconcerning" prolapse which is a "2" (not a 3 or a 4), so it just has to be checked every year from now on.

Who the fuck puts their age on their resume/CV? I only list my last 15 years of jobs, more or less. I leave my college degree on there because I got it in 2006. If people can do math, great. But in any case it's illegal in the US to ask a person their age in a job interview.

I have a doctor's letter that calls me a "pleasant gentleman" or some such. I assume it's some sort of code. Similarly, I interpreted the words "classic symptoms" as to mean "we believe he's read about this in a book".

My goal is to never apply for another job in my life. Just picked up a freelance contributor at the thing I run who's a 58-yr-old guy with a really interesting and varied resume who applied to us partly because he said "I'm finding it really hard to get anyone to consider a 58-yr-old for anything." We were like, "We are sympathetic to this plight! Come write for us."
My sister, who's also in her 50s, got a new teaching job and was super stressed by the first month of it and thinking about quitting and doing "something else." I had to caution her that there is almost nothing anyone would conceivably hire a 50-something former teacher for that would pay anywhere close to what a 50-something teacher makes. Fortunately she's settled in a bit. But I know so many people who have been unemployed in their 50s and it is No Fun.
