It has been 15 years since Spielberg last won, but that's only thing I really see potentially getting in the way of a Silver Linings Playbook sweep (remember when As Good As It Gets took the tops?). I wonder if Harvey Weinstein's gonna be soft on Lincoln since he's tight with DDL, but I could almost see him pulling some "Django vs Lincoln" shit to try and shame voters and send them to his dance flick.

i think it's jones vs deniro for supporting too. Both have trophies, but it's been awhile and while jones has consistently been good in stuff, they might want to encourage deniro to stop doing obvious horseshit and do less obvious horseshit like SLP

Supporting actor category less apt than supp actress to throw those curveballs though.

is it even a curveball, though? all five have trophies already - arkin isn't going to get TWO lovable scamp ones, waltz already has one for a tarantino movie, and hoffman's nod is just a "we still like you, bro" move. Jones is definitely the fave but DeNiro's a close second.

A curveball in the way the supporting actress category often is, I mean. It's usually the category to offer one upset.

three ways i see this going

best supporting actress: hathaway/field/weaver (and if weaver takes it, it's over)

best supporting actor: jones/deniro (and if deniro takes it, it's over)

best actress: lawrence (and if lawrence doesn't take it, it may not be over)

best actor: cooper/day-lewis/jackman (and if jackman takes it, UH OH)

best picture: winner of best adapted screenplay or LES MIS IN A SHOCKING LOL WELL THAT'S HOLLYWOOD

def true about Weaver winning as bellwether. I'd be genuinely shocked if Lawrence beats Chastain though, only because Oscar only tolerates pretty neurotics in supporting actress turns.
