Anyway it was me who voted for Nintendoland and, um, most of it's shit actually. I just threw it some points because the Mario Chase minigame is a really fun time, it's the best little whole-family-all-on-one-sofa-having-the-giggles thing we've played this year. But that one minigame definitely isn't worth buying the whole game for, and definitely definitely definitely isn't worth buying the whole console for.

all i played this year was FTL so i am just an observer but the encyclopedic style of the entries is a+ forks

so if anyone downloads the simpsons tapped out and wants to become friends with me in the game that is by no means totally pathetic and sad.

EZSnappin: I posted my ongoing frustrations with this tower of disappointment and regret to ILX on what seemed like a daily basis. Coulda been amazing, but sure as fuck wasn't.

Zora: Oh, it got a few things right. The core climb-up-stuff-and-jump-off-it-again mechanic is still superb. Sadly, I had to stop playing it after I watched the Zero Punctuation review, and realised that the review was bang on, a lot more fun than the game and didn't take nearly as long to get through. It's just as well because playing AC games compels me to gorge on Toblerones and my arse is fat enough already.

if: Do you like Formula 1? Do you like Mario Kart? Do you like surprisingly well thought out single player career campaigns? Well, probably not many people are going to answer yes to all three of those to the same extent as me, but if you did, then you may well love this game. It carries through on its absurd mash-up ideas with gusto, and while I was initially disappointed to realise that it had only 11 out of 20 tracks on the F1 calendar, I got a lot of fun out of it regardless.

I loved the demo from Race Stars but haven't picked it up yet.

F1 Race Stars is another one that popped up on UK PS+ this week, the fact it's codemasters is enough to make it worth a try I guess, it's a very odd idea though.

hmm, i guess i was the only person who voted for fm2013 and torchlight 2? i feel bad for not having written something up now. um...fm2013 was the only sport-related game i played this year that i didn't hate? torchlight 2 i am surprised didn't get any more votes, maybe ppl are waiting for it to be bundled; i waited to pick it up 50% off. it's just a well-balanced, well-designed, good looking, fun to play game. retrospectively made me realize how little i actually enjoyed playing dIII.

This is the first year in a few that I didn't buy the new FM, for some reason 2012 I fell completely off the wagon and only played it a tiny bit.

WillM: Six of us got together and played this. We had two decent laptops, two not-so-decent laptops (supplied to public school teachers by a public school board, to give you an idea of the quality); an iPad; a fairly powerful PC, and an iPhone which didn't really work out as well as the iPad and was subbed for one of the bad laptops later in. Installing, setting up, all of that was painless. Learning to play was harder for some stations than others, and some required more upkeep than others, but six of us with varying levels of gaming "ability" and urge to play managed to have an absolute ball. I want to play this again -- a lot. This game makes me want to build a pretend space station bridge and put PCs in it. God. BUY THIS GAME. GET 5 MATES. PLAY IT AND PRETEND YOU'RE CAPTAIN KIRK. IT'S AWESOME. And it's nowhere near as hard as everyone says it looks.

jjjusten: It's a Suda platformer with all the batshit qualities that you would expect from such a beast, but missing the trademark "wait the actual game part of this sucks" us fans have come to expect. Why am I buying things from a wheel of mouths? WTF are these cat plants about anyway? What the fuck is that thing for? Yep, that's all here too. Great use of 2-d theatrical shift tricks, playable but by no means easy, weird as fuck. If you don't get sucked in by the demo, don't bother going any further and just go back playing BLOPS until your dumb brain slops out of your ears.

did they ever patch Baldur's Gate? I heard it had a bunch of problems but haven't kept up with the news.

DOOM 3 - does it own, pwn, or both?

diamonddave85: Back in the early to mid-nineties, my dad would take me to a ham radio convention every year where they would have booth after booth of shareware floppies that you could buy. My dad had heard about Doom from a coworker or something and decided to pick up Doom 1 & 2 so we could play together, much to my mom's horror. Playing doom with my dad is one of my earliest computer related memories and as someone who is now in computers professionally, it is one of my fondest.
I had gotten my dad a ps3 a couple years back for xmas (mostly for blu-ray and netflix) but he really didn't play many games on it. It would seem that most videogames these days don't really appeal to a 60 year old man (the exception being Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X, which he played quite a bit). This year, I picked him up the BFG edition mainly because it came packaged with Doom 1 & 2. playing Doom again with my dad on xmas morning was well worth the price. Between that and playing Flower with my mom and sister for about 4 hours in one sitting, this xmas was one of the first times my family had bonded over videogames for a good 15+ years

Playing doom with my dad is one of my earliest computer related memories and as someone who is now in computers professionally, it is one of my fondest.
