I disagree (he says in his best Tom Paulin way) - whilst Big Brovaz have obviously been infuence by the canvalesque production of Outkast, a cursory look at their lyrical content shows a lot more in common with pop rappers of the early nineties and the general obsession of the bling garage culture. Songs are either about asserting their identity (Nu Flow / OK) or status (My Favourite Things). That said they do compare favourably to Outkast affiliates when they too rap on such mundane matters - suchg as Killer Mike's A.D.I.D.A.S.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Thanks. Feel free to start another thread comparing our domestic situation to Big Brother, Big Brovaz, Outkast or anyone else you fancy.

Ed (dali), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ok I locked it, if anyone feels it should be reopened go ahead, I guess. Kate I'll go and delete Lurker's post now, but blocking yr Ip is beyond my humble powers. Good, cos I'd rather you stayed.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

(since the other thread has now been locked I'll post my reply to ronan here).

thanks, ronan.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Feel free to reopeni later today if you fancy, I just think there should be a little cooling off period.

Ed (dali), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Thank you for locking the thread. Thank you in advance for removing my ill-advised private email quote. Who has the power to block IP addresses? Because I really DON'T have the willpower to keep myself from posting, and from talking about my private life. And these huge fights and tanglements really ARE affecting my performance at work, and even though I hate my job, I do need to keep it right now.

And I would prefer for the thread to stay locked. I'm leaving, just leave off and forget about it.

kate, Friday, 16 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

kate - yank the network cable out the back of your computer. That works. Or smash the screen.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

I did the latter once, it was an ugly scene. Expensive laptop, too. Kate don't do this

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

(Smashing screen not advisable with work computer.)

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

thanks ronan

think nothing of it.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Smear screen with jam then. Or put the computer upside down.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:01 (twenty-one years ago) link

i will block kate if nobody has a more strenuous objection than kate's plea

Alan (Alan), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

is that just 213.123.213.188 then?

Alan (Alan), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

how will that help with posting from home?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think its the short term that she is worried about. Like any addiction, its one day at a time.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

well i think that should have done it. Anyone got a better message than "GO AWAY KATE" -- which is what she should be reading right now. How about "Put the mouse down and walk away"

Alan (Alan), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think the walk away one is nicer than just "GO AWAY KATE" but then, she did ask....

smee (smee), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'll just quote her post

"Who has the power to block IP addresses? Because I really DON'T have the willpower to keep myself from posting, and from talking about my private life. And these huge fights and tanglements really ARE affecting my performance at work, and even though I hate my job, I do need to keep it right now."

mind you I don't know that it's actually working or if more people have that IP address. (I banned myself successfully to check, but that's all)

Alan (Alan), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

that looks like a BT address to me to be honest

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

Kate has requested to please be reinstated to ILM. She's just going cold turkey on ILE. I am posting this because she can't.
chairs.

Lurkylurklurklurk, Friday, 16 May 2003 10:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

You know, if I wasn't reading this thread I would have had no idea that some conflict had happened. Wierd.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

english go figure

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

well I've done my best, I THINK I've banned that IP from ILE only. any complaints back to me, but frankly I'm a bit peeved with this request already

Alan (Alan), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

so does everybody else get a 'get out of jail free' card with their threads too?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

everyone except you

mark s (mark s), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Thanks from Kate, it works. Didn't realise that it was a hassle to ban from just one board, but I appreciate it. Thanks."

Lurkity lurkitty oooooo, Friday, 16 May 2003 11:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

good for you.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Another weird thing is the way I decided to spell "wierd" up there in my previous post. Huh.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

Surely if you are a moderator you could have changed that. (They change everything else round here, like the shifting sands of the desert you never know where you stand).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

ain't it the truth brutha, ain't it the truth

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

You know, I'm just going to say this: what the fuck is wrong with everyone?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

geez cut down on the uppers cause your going fucking paranoid.

There is a log, you know this. If your so convinced we all do this all the time then keep an eye on it.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

IT'S THE INTERNET PEOPLE, NOT A FORM OF PARLIAMENTARY GOVERNMENT!

*HEAD COMPLETELY EXPLODES*

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

They edit the log. I've seen them. Scaly. Scaly.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

moderators stole my childhood

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Moderators stole my crisps. At least, one of them did.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

Well you know what they say Tim. Everything in moderation. Including unfortunately your crisps.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

*Note to plenary dedaco-council: edit Tim, messily*
*Note to self: dispute entry in eyes-only secret log, re Orinoco Lizard #12437's claim to have engineered the entire Ally-Head-Explosion incident -> this was MY plan, MINE MINE I TELL YOU!!*
*Note back to self: No need to shout I'm just here*

mark s (mark s), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

PROLETARIAT! ARE YOU GOING TO STAND FOR THIS? WORKERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE AGAINST THE MODERATORS! ETC!

WHY is it that every time someone acts like a big fucking crybaby on this board, the moderators get blamed, anyhow?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

I don't think anyone was seriously objecting to the moderators here...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Cos they react? (Friday afternoon bit of fun). Anyway - off to the constitutional crisis thread.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

MUTINY! MUTINY!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

WHY is it that every time someone acts like a big fucking crybaby on this board, the moderators get blamed, anyhow?

Because blaming hstencil is passe?

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yes, Matt, because a post that started off quoting the end of The Communist Manifesto was obviously meant entirely in seriousness?

Blaming hstencil is totally passe because now he doesn't get upset, he uses it as an excuse to be dodgy!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

I blame that cunt Andrew Farrell.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yeah, it's that cunt Andrew Farrell's fault.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think Hstencil is being let off the hook too easily here. They tell me he has a "no nonsense" attitude towards moderation. I blame him personally. I heard him boasting in the locker room about how he had "shut ILE up like a clam".

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

I blame you and Julio, actually, Ronan.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 16 May 2003 13:34 (twenty-one years ago) link
