lag∞n, Monday, 6 May 2013 12:26 (twelve years ago)

'chaos is not a pit. it is a ladder!'

littlefinger is becoming one of the only interesting people on this show. i mean, it's awesome, but everytone is always so 'honor!' 'family!' 'oath!' 'boobs!'

Frederik B, Monday, 6 May 2013 12:46 (twelve years ago)

some good power convos, nice bit of spectacle with the wall, couple of plot clues, piece shuffling otherwise. interesting that hbo balked at corpse nudity w/ ros. more interesting than surprising maybe. or maybe not even interesting, i dunno *shrug*

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 6 May 2013 13:04 (twelve years ago)

i thought it was v good for a set up ep which are usually a snooze

lag∞n, Monday, 6 May 2013 13:12 (twelve years ago)

poor Ros

No more Theon torture porn, pls. Ick.

schwantz, Monday, 6 May 2013 15:56 (twelve years ago)

Do the non-book readers have any idea who the guy torturing Theon is or are you all totally in the dark?

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 6 May 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)

Don't know who it is but someone cleverly put a screenshot with a clue up there.

Gukbe, Monday, 6 May 2013 16:07 (twelve years ago)

Feel like we're never going o learn Podrick's secrets.

Gukbe, Monday, 6 May 2013 16:08 (twelve years ago)

re: that clue. who is that guy to theon?

cozen, Monday, 6 May 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)

They've given us enough hints over the past two seasons to put WHO together imo - or at least I'll be very very surprised if its not who I think it is. WHY I have no idea though I'm starting to think it's "just because he can."

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Monday, 6 May 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

In which Max writes the greatest article on the series yet.

lego maniac cop (latebloomer), Monday, 6 May 2013 17:21 (twelve years ago)

My husband hasn't read the books so he keeps asking about this character, and I'm still not sure if it is a big deal to spoil it or not.

The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Monday, 6 May 2013 17:26 (twelve years ago)

wow ygritte is super posh; immaculately clipped non-scots accent irl

cozen, Monday, 6 May 2013 17:27 (twelve years ago)

who pulls off an incredibly convincing northern accent

hmm.

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:31 (twelve years ago)

i love that sean bean barely even bothers to do his posh yorkshire boromir thing in this. it's full on sheffield.

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:32 (twelve years ago)

Did the same outcome befall roz in the books?

brb buying poppers w/my employee discount (forksclovetofu), Monday, 6 May 2013 18:38 (twelve years ago)

I don't think she was in the books.

Gukbe, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:39 (twelve years ago)

Huh

brb buying poppers w/my employee discount (forksclovetofu), Monday, 6 May 2013 18:39 (twelve years ago)

Incredibly convincing [to americans]

max, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:39 (twelve years ago)

The guy who isn't Vargo Hoat seemed like he was kinda shooting for Brummie

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 6 May 2013 18:40 (twelve years ago)

i think actually it's not that bad, but it's not a modern accent. it's 100 years old, which is why it sounds weird, but i suppose it makes sense for the character.

a good article!

my favourite accents to listen to on this show are: sean bean (obviously), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (not necessarily "good", but nice to listen to) and liam cunningham, who does a beautiful durham/northumbria thing.

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:42 (twelve years ago)

(xp)

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:43 (twelve years ago)

god, ygritte's real accent is amazing

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:51 (twelve years ago)

ygritte show accent is p much straight manc, or more specifically lancashire manc suburbs. i know ppl who sound a lot like that

roz was a whoo-er in the north that was chummy with theon iirc but didn't get any further along than that

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:56 (twelve years ago)

I would like to point out that people generally adopt accents from their peers not their parents according to studies

lag∞n, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:04 (twelve years ago)

i think she's going for lancashire yeah, but it's not quite right to me.

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:07 (twelve years ago)

southern lancashire in partic.

i mean not that it matters. this is a terrible show about wizards that i don't even like and i only watch because everyone else does and i never post on this thread although the episode last week was good and i liked it when they blew up the boats.

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:08 (twelve years ago)

but i like the febrile energy of max's article

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

As an American all I get is a southern gentleman out of littlefinger in a few random words and am nodding along blankly to all the other accent stuff you're all going on about.

Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:19 (twelve years ago)

It's a bit Welsh, I thought? Or am I not hearing it right? It is a very strange accent.

Windsor Davies, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:24 (twelve years ago)

Well it'll be like one emphasized word per every three lines that give me that impression.

Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:27 (twelve years ago)

i think part of the problem is he's clearly reaching for a deeper voice than he naturally has, plus he seems like like he's not naturally an accent guy

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:33 (twelve years ago)

welsh would be "correct" in some sense, since he's from the vale and theoretically vale accents = welsh

max, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:34 (twelve years ago)

i think in a weird way his accent is worse or more distracting than dinklage's, because he seems to have something specific in mind that he's trying to do, where as dinklage hardly bothers these days

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

I had no idea Dinklage's was so weak. USA! USA!

Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

from what i can tell dinklage's "accent" is basically just dropping his Rs and opening up his As a little bit

max, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

it's Victor Meldrew I think

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 6 May 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)

Americans will get that reference

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 6 May 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)

did littlefinger do all that growling stuff in earlier seasons? i've definitely noticed it more this season.

caek, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)

"and opening up his As a little bit"

Had to double take

Evan, Monday, 6 May 2013 19:47 (twelve years ago)

Ronan called him Irish Dracula and now that's all I can think of any time he speaks.

The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Monday, 6 May 2013 19:58 (twelve years ago)

I think Dinklage is just doing Stewie from the Family Guy.

schwantz, Monday, 6 May 2013 20:32 (twelve years ago)

hah!

Yeah I think it's been getting more pronounced the further in we've gone. Don't recall thinking anything in particular about Gillen's accent in the first series.

Windsor Davies, Monday, 6 May 2013 20:48 (twelve years ago)

shifty character = shifty accent maybe?

lego maniac cop (latebloomer), Monday, 6 May 2013 20:58 (twelve years ago)

for all we know this could be a middle earth type deal where in the reality of the story the common tongue sounds nothing like english but for our convenience it does

/nerd
