also i think her survivng the bonfire is supposed to be like a one-time miracle and not necessarily a sustained superpower
There was a moment earlier in the first season where she was unaffected by high heat, tho
― polyphonic, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:35 (eleven years ago) link
Martin: No, no Targaryans are immune to fire. The thing with Dany and the dragons, that was just a one-time magical event, very special and unique. The Targaryans can tolerate a bit more heat than most ordinary people, they like really hot baths and things like that, but that doesn't mean they're totally immune to fire, no. Dragons, on the other hand, are pretty much immune to fire.

i like how the dragons keep growing

also, i think the dragons burned the shackles off of her in the Tower of something something too.

also kind of enjoyed how Joffrey is likely right about the dragons while Tywin is so very wrong.

wasnt sure tywin was being totally sincere there, felt more like he was like just trying to shut the kid up so he could go about the business of governing the kingdom himself

could be but not worrying abt baby dragons across the sea while fighting a war on yr doorstep seems p sensible
― lag∞n, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:50 (eleven years ago) link
Every scene with Tywin this season involves very symbolic physical positioning/actions during conversations.
― Evan, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:52 (eleven years ago) link
ya but this is tywin the master schemer, its like his raison d'etre to squelch any possible threats to his house, i bet he's not taking this lightly
― we're up all night to get (s1ocki), Monday, 13 May 2013 18:52 (eleven years ago) link
it's like watching a black hole, he just sucks everyone else's perceived power right out of them when he holds court, it's awesome to watch it work

ok i have a question, danys sidekick solider guy, he was/is a spy for the lannisters? a few weeks ago in the previously on game of thrones segment they had a scene from the first season that i didnt remember where he was warning them abt her via letter i think that made it seem like that was the case
― lag∞n, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:54 (eleven years ago) link
ya i cant remember if he was outed or not??

he is/was working for varys iirc. as far as the show goes, he has not been rumbled and i don't recall him officially renouncing anything.

tywin is kind of the avatar of cynicism - mundane power and materialism. i think he would at least resist the notion of the return of magic, maybe be in denial if up close to it.

They've had some downtime reserved for sex that can't wait until Mom completely leaves the tent and war planning/note writing that can't wait until underwear is first put back on.

idgi one week John snow and his wilding gf are pledging loyalty to no one but each other and the next she's all amped to attack the wall, shouldn't they be planning their escape abt now

Maybe ultimately loyal to only each other?
― Evan, Monday, 13 May 2013 20:13 (eleven years ago) link
idk
Yeah I interpreted that arrangement as them going along with the plan as it stands, but Jon has Ygritte's back if shit gets real with whoever they're about to start fighting irrespective of his true status as a Crow (no Watch left though really so I dunno), and in turn Ygritte has Jon's back irrespective of his status as a Crow as and when Gareth from The Office goes postal on him in an attempt to win Ygritte's love and/or the other Wildlings find out what Jon's really all about.

iirc there was a bit in season 2 (when Dany'd lost her dragons) when the mysterious woman in the gold full-face mask thing calls him out & asks if he'll betray Dany again and he says he won't.
but he's not been rumbled by Dany.

this was a fairly boring episode imo - the whole let's go back to harrenhall thing is just like "yeesh okay."
― ... (LocalGarda), Monday, 13 May 2013 23:21 (eleven years ago) link
xxpost - I spose because Ygritte is way too committed to the Wildling cause to sack it off so quickly.
Likewise Jon probably is gonna pull a fast one and do something to undermine this whole project as a result of his devotion to the Watch - or the idea of the Watch, anyway. Gotta remember that for all that Catelyn Stark was a dick to him, Jon seems to have gotten on well with Ned and clearly loved Robb and Arya and he obviously regards himself as a Stark of Winterfell to some degree. And it's the Starks who've always supported the Watch, manned the Wall, Uncle Benjen as head Ranger and so on - Jon's probably been brought up to believe that the Watch are fundamentally good guys doing a vital job for the realm.
And each one (strongly) suspects these things about the other, but they're in the first flush of passionate love. So what are they to do? Desperately in love but both with a fundamental awareness that this is all doomed because of the other's core identity, wanting really badly to just run off together but being too committed to their respective causes to actually do it? And each able to recognise that fact in the other?
Idk, that might be it. Basically this storyline is heading for major fucking tragedy, whatever else happens

that's sort of the way this whole series works tho
― Clay, Monday, 13 May 2013 23:38 (eleven years ago) link
Well yeah ok so it was kind of a redundant thing to say. But this story feels more poignant to me than Sansa having to marry Tyrion or Alfie Allen getting his cock chopped off by a psychopath or whatever.
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 13 May 2013 23:42 (eleven years ago) link
Speaking of, that lowers the likelihood of a male cast heh heh member showing more than body double butt, whereas every female regular between 18 and 40 has gotten her kit off.

The blood of kings has powerful magic. Don't believe they've been more specific than that yet.

i like the torture scenes myself. just sort of cheap lolz at theon.
isn't it to make another evil ghost thing? stannis asked her and she said he was too weak. presumably it used his blood time. doesn't sound like great things are in store for the poor lad.
