It's not OK, hence the apology. But there is definitely a distinction, in terms of intent, between tweeting an offensive joke to a friend and tweeting abuse at a stranger. The former might be crass or unpleasant but it's not targeted.

yeah true, it's an important distinction. though i do think these, and other comments she's made, make her not such a great person to be spearheading this campaign but if something does change for the good then that makes it worthwhile i guess. out of interest, what are their specific goals? and are there any signs twitter will commit to any of them?

me and a mate both got 'hacked' today ie someone sending out the same spam DMs from our accounts. Is changing password sufficient?

Change pw and enable two step verification.

also, go into 'settings' and make sure that the only apps that have access are ones you're familiar with and still use.

ya its usually via apps is my understanding, no one prob actually has yr login infos

some people just follow everyone who follows them

ghostly international (the label) follows everyone who follows them. i guess who cares if it's not account that's actually going to read any tweets.

yeah i guess if you're using twitter just for broadcasting there's not much need to look past your @ mentions

wonder if it might be "negatively impactful" on your "brand" because it makes you look "spammy" but idk what the accepted social media wisdom is about twitter follower ratios.

i think it's cool to only have a few followers, also, like maybe ~70?, all the best people, the most singular, they are just quietly, personally tweeting their life to a coterie of interested friends

i like it. i often read a TL hours back into it rather than check it regularly, so it's good for me. i don't think basically anyone else uses twitter like that tho

also, it doesn't really work with more than two people, does it? twitter conversations get muddled too quickly for it to make sense.

tweetdeck has the open/close convos which i like much more

the new conversation view doesn't work with the conversations on my tl - people aren't having then in a strictly linear you-talk-then-i-talk way. i wish twitter could have rolled it out w/ an opt-out option.

also, lex, they don't roll out new features to all users at once, so it's likely it just hasn't got to you yet - often it doesn't happen until you start a new twitter session (by logging in or by starting up yr browser and opening the twitter website)
