Denver was an important place for the "beat generation." Beat icon Neal Cassady was raised on Larimer Street in Denver, and a portion of Jack Kerouac's beat masterpiece On the Road takes place in the city, and is based on the beat's actual experiences in Denver during a road trip. Beat poet Allen Ginsberg lived for a time in the Denver suburb of Lakewood, Colorado, and he helped found the Buddhist college, Naropa University or the "Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa" in nearby Boulder, Colorado.

I think I've spent a total of about 36 hours in Denver in my life, most of them at Elich's, or sleeping at someone else's house overnight, or going with my parents to get my sister orthopedic shoes. This was in the late 1980's. goddamned right I hated it!

I am very much biased against colorado now but only because of all the horrible white republicans and christian coalitian types. If you killed all the people in the state it would be grand! (er, Mandee excepted)

Denver has frequent temperature shifts. Once the temperature dropped 60 degrees in 8 hours. This was not fun for the trees.

Oops, never did follow through there, but my sisters house made it fine. They were basically a block away from the evac zone, and houses as nearby as a mile did go up, but their house was safe, and they donated a bunch of clothes and toys to families who lost everything

a crazy / awful event — still seems kind of unreal. it's been a fairly mellow year out here (knocks on wood) so far in regards to wildfires.

haven't heard of dead comets! but they do seem adjacent ... there are some decent musical things going on in denver and the surrounding area.
