i wouldn't do anything about it, service is service is service and one shouldn't feel entitled to good service, it's just something you subject yourself to when you eat at a sit down restaurant. when you tie the perceived quality of service to the amount of money you leave, you start getting into these issues of control using money and everything just starts to feel gross.

this is a horrible analysis of tipping but a great description of capitalism

there are places that are famous for their deliberately contemptuous service but which are still loved; cf. the entire city of paris, also there's a seafood place in boston that i can't remember the name of? they literally throw your napkin at you when you sit down. there is something to the idea of going with the flow. it can feel tremendous to let go of the idea that your food needs to come quickly; i believe in some places this is called "relaxing"
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 23 September 2013 09:56 (eleven years ago) link
Last big meal out was with 8+ diners and the place gave us really grudging service all night - insisting that we only had a two-hour 'slot' for our meal when that would end 30 minutes before the kitchen closed, then wasting a lot of that time by not returning for 15-20 minutes to take our drinks order. Because of the size of our group, there was no way we could adjust tip for attitude (big groups get a mandatory service charge) without involving the manager. It felt arbitrary because the host/person who booked it swears the restaurant failed to mention anything about meal timings when he arranged it.

the reason you tip is because waiters work shitty jobs (like a bunch of other people in different parts of the service industry) and are paid below the minimum wage, legally.
not in San Francisco. Minimum wage is $10.55/hr - tipped employees or not

I couldn't tell, it was a "keep the change" situation but dude counted out a specific amount of money (including coins), pushed it across the counter and was like "no, I'm all set" and then turned to his friend like "see, I got this tipping thing!"
I am pretty sure they then went to sit down before their food was ready.

That's the thing I didn't get; Burger King is in Switzerland, right? Surely it works the same way there as it does here?

well this has taken a strange turn - particularly how the restaurant claims they have the original receipt and comped a meal to ensure she was tipped, yet the Visa statement shows the 111.55 amount.

Awesome night out at Texas Roadhouse..got a great chest pump while eating there, I'll explain.I forgot I was wearing my tank top ( Ha ha jk, but not to show off ) and the girls working were begging to see me in action. I seriously refused until the whole right section of the roadhouse was cheering me on, so had no choice. They had 2 of these huge beer kegs in the back. I'm not an expert on weight but I can guarantee you they were at least 175 pounds, so 400 together. So I'm laying on the broiler and I repped out at least 16 deep presses, while the waitresses are feeling my calves haha gotta love it. I could tell the guy who was my server was pissed and can only imagine his anger when he checked my receipt. Just another night out as a wealthy bodybuilder.#NOTIPS #lightweight #noSPOTnoTIPS

Had to buy a new dishwasher this past weekend. It was delivered and installed today. The delivery arrived separately from the guy who actually hooked up the electrics and plumbing a few hours later. I only had a single $5 bill on hand because I'm a piece of shit. I ended up tipping the installer, because he did more work, but I'm thinking I should have tipped the delivery guys instead, because they probably have a lower base wage.
