i just don't like the risk of having goatse or pigpoopballs pop up while i'm at work. every message board in history has had the option to not display images inline, i don't see what twitter gains from not allowing people to turn it off even if it's on by default.

It seems random; some pics preview automatically but I see some (even Twitter pics) that still just show up as links. Maybe has to do with how people post them?

i suppose it's only a matter of time before twitter tightens up the requirements for 3rd parties using its but until then just use a decent app and you get to bypass nearly everything annoying about the twitter user experience except the ppl. i use tweetdeck on chrome and tweetbot on ios and i never see ads or promoted tweets or blue conversation lines or image previews (unless I want to) or anything dumb like that.
