One of the best.

"Blast Hardcheese!" etc.

A good introductory episode, where the movie would be entertaining by itself, and the commentary is also excellent.

Haha love this next one. Took until the first hint but then I got it. Third ever episode I saw all the way through!

Hahah I love this skit. Joel's mustaches and wigs...

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 November 2013 19:21 (ten years ago) link

Haha had forgotten this totally Minnesota-specific joke:

"She spends more now these days than...she did back in Iowa."

"Oooh, THAT'S cold."

One of my ALL TIME favorite jokes is coming up in a few minutes. Also one of the subtlest ones they ever did.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 November 2013 19:53 (ten years ago) link

Hahaha there it was. (As Jimmy's lurking in front of the diner, Tom -- appropriately -- quietly does the intro vocal part from the DNA remix of Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner.")

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 November 2013 19:57 (ten years ago) link

god, this diner scene!

"Got 'em piled out back!"

"Look, can I have my hamburger?"

Haha Cave Dwellers now. Great run so far. Will need to bow out soon to head to dinner at a friend's but I'll try and catch the host segments later; might just pause the stream.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:53 (ten years ago) link

I didn't get to watch a whole lot, but the bit I did was very special.

Evan, Friday, 29 November 2013 02:49 (ten years ago) link

Just rewound and started it over again to take me into dreamland.

MST3K is with absolutely, positively no doubt Minnesota's best cultural export.

Joel's very dancer-ly turns away from the camera in the "Are You Happy in Your Work" reenactment get me every time.

When Joel gets surly big brother to the 'bots (e.g. unplugging Cambot and turning to the rest and barking "Who's next?!"), I gotta admit ... I find it kinda hot.

Though filmed in Canada, Zombie Nightmare also strikes me as a documentary about Australia. In that those types were there too at that time, I suspect.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 November 2013 21:22 (ten years ago) link

lol yes my hometown was totally like that

Zombie Nightmare worth it for, if nothing else, the unintelligible witch-doctor and the Penguin-voiced detective.

batwoman was almost as torturous to watch even when being riffed

a truly annoying & incomorehensible movie

If memory serves, the Turkey Day smorgasbord 2013 was:

Space Mutiny
I Accuse My Parents
Werewolf
Cave Dwellers
The Final Sacrifice
Mitchell

Sort of wish some of the Mike episodes had come from seasons 5 and 6 (the show's peak, script-wise). Oh well.
