Last one I saw was a couple of weeks ago (due to band practices on Tuesdays OH NO!) and it was weird because they didn't eliminate anyone or even get to the checkpoint, instead it was TO BE CONTINUED... It was looking grim for the wrestlers at that point though.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:20 (nineteen years ago) link

I think that was the last one that aired...

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago) link

There was a recap episode last week, so no one got eliminated then. I don't know how much more I can take of Jonathan, to be honest. If he and his wife aren't eliminated in the next couple of episodes I might have to skip the rest of the season.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago) link

i hope by eliminated you mean eaten by wolves.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Or eviscerated by a cab driver.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:30 (nineteen years ago) link

They really are like the dregs of humanity, aren't they?

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:33 (nineteen years ago) link

I hope by "eaten by wolves" you mean "set on fire and thrown into the endless abyss after being beaten senseless by children across the globe".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:35 (nineteen years ago) link

On that last episode I saw, Jonathan got all mad at Gus & Hera for somehow "stealing" his plane tickets (I'm not really sure how that's possible, but if it was possible, THAT'S PART OF BEING IN A RACE YOU DOUCHEBAG, DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPENING HERE?) and proceeded to harp on about it whenever he saw them for the rest of the episode. WHAT A COCK.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Gus is so awesome!

JONATHON: How did you get those tickets??? Those were our tickets!
GUS: Little bastard.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:40 (nineteen years ago) link

Gus was in the CIA, he should have found a way to make Jonathan disappear.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:40 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, I like Gus, but his daughter vacillates between being mildly annoying and total invisibility.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:43 (nineteen years ago) link

So Bluehair never got in trouble for shoving Doormat? We thought that might have been addressed. I would think there would be some rule against physically abusing your teammate.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:45 (nineteen years ago) link

You would think so, but apparently not!

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Did you guys read the Television Without Pity summary of that episode? It's seriously one of the greatest things ever written about a television show.

I would never have thought that I could find anything amusing connected to that whole meltdown but this really hit all of my evil buttons.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:56 (nineteen years ago) link

Sorry, Jonathan-hataz, but he and Victoria are too strong to be eliminated so soon. He's always on the verge of a meltdown but they're always in the top three. They'll be around for a while yet.

He's quite a fascinating character -- watching the recap show, I was reminded of that scene in Senegal where he was all chilled out, playing with the kids and handing out candy. How can this have been the same guy who acted so horribly at the Brandenburg Gate and countless other times? Strange.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:57 (nineteen years ago) link

"I want to have children so I can dominate them and make them submit to my tiny tiny penis."

Jonathan Amazing Race 6 (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:59 (nineteen years ago) link

"that's not the candy I had in mind"

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 January 2005 19:59 (nineteen years ago) link

(hahaha I just had an ILE flashback: HUMBLEWANG)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 20:01 (nineteen years ago) link

I think it was all an act for the camera, to show that deep down he really is a good guy despite slamming car trunk doors on his wife's hands and shoving her around when things aren't going his way.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 3 January 2005 20:34 (nineteen years ago) link

The thing is, I can have a temper sometimes too, and the morning Sarah and I were leaving to fly to Florida to visit my family I was really stressed out about the trip and flying and I totally freaked out about something and got really shrill and then I realized I WAS BEING JONATHAN and that totally didn't help things. It was depressing.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 3 January 2005 20:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Reason 8,000,000 why Sarah and Nick would be terrible on the Amazing Race.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 3 January 2005 20:38 (nineteen years ago) link

alright! Victoria just slit Jonathan's throat with a broken bottle!* Serves him right.

This season seems to have a lot of hatred.

*OK, not really.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 02:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Dear models and actors/actresses of Amazing Race, quit calling your partners "Baby". KthanksBye.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 02:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Great episode, that soup-eating scene may have been the highlight of the season thus far. The juxtaposition of the jolly music and grinning musicians together with all the vomit and chaos among the racers was something to behold.

Gus and Hera were dumbasses for choosing the rowing challenge.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 03:01 (nineteen years ago) link

note to future racers: when someone is trying to eat soup that makes you vomit, don't point out the vomit on the floor.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 03:09 (nineteen years ago) link

big daddy was just a little too big and slow. they always chose the slow stuff over the athletic stuff. too bad there wasn't more soup-eating in previous episodes. he inhaled that stuff.

and jonathan is still evil incarnate. what else is new. i was kinda hoping TERRORIZED AND ABUSED wife would have thrown up all over him, grinded a broken water glass into his face and then just walked away from the game. but, alas, they are still in it.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 03:12 (nineteen years ago) link

You just KNEW when they got to that Roadblock clue that he wouldn't even hesitate before ordering Victoria to do it.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 04:09 (nineteen years ago) link

From The New York Post:

January 4, 2005 -- IT was all an act, claims the abusive, wife-shoving "Amazing Race" contestant who has angered millions with his appalling behavior on the popular reality show.
"We went in being the villains. We went in playing it over the top, and CBS kind of helped it along with their storyline," racer Jonathan Baker, 42, told "Access Hollywood."

"I've had to do a lot of apologizing to a lot of people because they actually think it's real," he said.

During a recent episode, Baker became so angry with his wife, Victoria Fuller, for hampering him during a challenge that he shoved her — hard — as she cried.

"And yeah, some of it's real," he told the TV show. "But you know at the end of the day we really wanted to play it campy, over the top, you know. But we do love each other and we are together. We're still together."

The "I was acting," excuse is just the latest of several Baker has used to explain away his abusive behavior during the show, in which he verbally assualts Fuller, a former Playboy model, and other contestants.

In an interview Baker gave before the latest season of "Amazing Race" began, Baker — knowing how likely it was that he would appear to be a jerk on the show — first blamed the editing of the series. Later, he claimed his behavior was due to stress, a rare medical condition and the prescription drugs used to treat it.

"Amazing Race" producers were so horrified by his antics that the show's chief, Bertram van Munster, even took Baker aside several times during the taping last summer and told him to "chill out."

Worse, the Web site and Baker's other attempts to explain his behavior could land the foul-tempered reality fiend in even more trouble with CBS, since he is prohibited from speaking publicly until he either wins the game or is kicked off. "

aimurchie, Wednesday, 5 January 2005 10:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Hahahaha, "Worse,[...]"!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 13:03 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, he's come up with a million different excuses for his behavior in interviews, so the "it was all deliberate!" explanation rings rather hollow now.

I was sad to see Gus and Hera go, but they always picked the wrong challenge. Though I'm not sure if Gus would have fared much better at water polo.

I know it's cruel, but it was hilarious how Freddy was doing really well at the soup challenge until Kendra pointed out all the vomit on the floor.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:28 (nineteen years ago) link

THAT WAS AWESOME! (Also the fact that he puked back into his bowl.) (Also, the shell-shocked, horrified expressions that began creeping over the musicians' faces as they watched Victoria slurp-and-purge-and-wail.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 23:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Rebecca also kicked ass at that! I was impressed.

On another forum someone got all huffy that Jonathan called her a monster, saying "Oh, like he has a right to talk!" The people on that forum are FUCKING DUMBASSES.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 23:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Last night's episode was pretty tame. I think Bluehair must have had a talking to. Victoria seems a bit more assertive.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:06 (nineteen years ago) link

baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby. please climb that wall, baby!

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:16 (nineteen years ago) link

apparently you have to call your partner "baby" to be considered a model.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Spike Lee should write a children's book about them.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Everyone overdosed on the "baby"'s yesterday, not just the glamour types.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:23 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm stilll waiting for a comedy anvil to fall on Kendra's head.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:24 (nineteen years ago) link

I was pretty underwhelmed by this last episode, probably because most of the teams seem so annoying.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:27 (nineteen years ago) link

Kris and Jon aren't annoying, but they're too bland. I can't root for such blandless. Yesterday, I found myself rooting for Jonathan and Victoria just for the entertainment value. The role reversal during the Detour was fun to see, with Jonathan doing all the work while Victoria yelled at him for being a bum.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:02 (nineteen years ago) link

*blandness*

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Adam reminds me of that Bruce McCullough character .. the kid with the glasses and baseball cap.

Also, I don't know why he's so hung up on Rebecca - since he's so obviously gay.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 13 January 2005 02:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Adam is the only one I kind of like, he's so pathetic.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Thursday, 13 January 2005 03:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!! Good riddance to bad rubbish! I'm almost tempted to watch the cbs early show tomorrow to hear how they explain their vileness. having said that, i don't really care who wins. This season wasn't so hot.

and who oh why haven't people figured out by now that when given the choice of two tasks you should always do the first/faster one?

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:11 (nineteen years ago) link

BOOOO.
They were the most entertaining of the bunch. I like Kris and Jon, but they're bland and drama-free.

Still, the way Jon and Victoria went out was fitting. Their weekly shouting match caused them to lose their concentration and misread the directions. Something like that was bound to happen.

It was also nice to see that the Ethiopians (unlike the Senegalese) have passed Kendra's litmus test and are worthy of continuing to breed.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:26 (nineteen years ago) link

it was the weekly shouting match that i couldn't take anymore. oy vey!

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:29 (nineteen years ago) link

At first, I was critical of Kris and Jon's blandness as well -- if you were going to come up with a stereotypical (in a 'good' way) liberal couple, they'd be it -- but compared to everyone else, their niceness makes up for being so perfectly boring.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:35 (nineteen years ago) link

They're likeable enough that I won't mind if they win (if we were scoring the race on points then they've probably performed better than the others -- consistently in the top three), but they're bland enough that I can't bring myself to root for them.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 04:02 (nineteen years ago) link

I can't root for anybody, but I do kind of feel sorry for the patheticness of Adam. Poor kitty.
