My team's motto is now "You know what you doing."

I think it should be "You know hwat you doing."

I am lousy with Ks, ERA and WHIP. All I need is some of this stupid "offense" I keep hearing about. Who wants David Wells?

felicity (felicity), Monday, 7 April 2003 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn... Felix Rodriguez got rocked tonight and his ERA is now 8.31... wonder how long it'll take for him to get that back to normal. On the plus side, Barry Bonds isn't hitting too good but got a SB and my team is STILL error-free! Whee.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

it's gettin' hwat in herre

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Glad to see people on the Baldelli ballsack. He'll be droppable in a month, I bet.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The S.S. Pocket has hit an iceberg called lack of HR production and is mixing metaphors faster than a Baez split finger in a vacuum.

Amazingly enough, due to the weather only two of my players saw action yesterday- one went 3 for 4 and the other got a save. I still dropped a place in the standings.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Leave it to the I Love Baseball crew to make the thread a self-deprecate-off instead of a throwdown.

/indie guilt

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

just dialing in from mars to report that Rich Aurilia is the #8 offensive player season to date</chortle on this>

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I wear Pockets on the outside because pockets is how I feel on the inside.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to overhaul my team -- 7 ERRORS?!?!?

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 04:15 (twenty-two years ago)

What's OPS?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

* OPS is On-Base Percentage + Slugging Percentage. It is a pretty good estimate of offensive ability.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Baldelli - 2 for 3 with a RBI.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks chris

Offensive punch needed (at 3rd base or catcher) for Guardado. Pocket Pride is at stake.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess my team shows that you don't really need starting pitching. Three very mediocre outings from my crew and I only dropped to second place. None of my starting players have made an error yet though and we have a .974 OPS!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Gygax what would it take to pry Dave Roberts away from you?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Notice the correlation between Raposa's absence from this thread and his steady fall down the rankings?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Kansas what would it take for one of Baez, Guardado or Smoltz?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus Mark, thats a lot to give up for a average outfielder. Of course unless your set with closers.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris I haven't proposed any deals - just curious as to what it would take.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Shoudn't take more than a pair of cleats.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark, Varitek for Guardado?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The other league I'm in finally got started, and I still can't get any pitching.

SP Brian Lawrence

!!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to overhaul my team -- 7 ERRORS?!?!?

On a completely different note, Rafael Furcal on the block. 4 runs, 2 rbi, 1 sb, batting .289 etc.

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

THE trade won't be effective until Sunday? Mark, would you like the commish-for-life to waive this waiting period and make him earn his 75k a year salary?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I would!

And who vetoed the deal?!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

whoops, i vetoed the trade (which cancelled it).

it looked unfair, so i thought i would just be tallying one vote against it.

set it up again.*

*David R., you around? Couple of things to ask.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel like the Charles O. Finley of ILB. It feels good.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh.

You should only be vetoing trades if you feel like there's been some flagrant abuse of the system. It's ostensibly to prevent 'salary dump' type trades nearer to the end of the season.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

ps: all trades take 2 days and are voted for/against by a jury of your peers, apparently not including the commish.

this is the law, you are not exempt...

okay how much are you offering again? :-D

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

easy for you to say mark p.!!! you are getting a bargain and a half...

:-D

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

what was the trade again? I didn't approve felicity's trade because I thought it was a bad idea for her to get rid of what's-his-face.

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

guardado for varitek

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, I didn't even see that.

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's cool if it's vetoed. But I fully understand what I'm doing. *places toaster next to bathtub*

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Peeps are vetoing trades just cuz they don't like them? That's not right.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Honestly, it has less to do with WHAT the trade was then it does with the fact that others can veto a trade where both parties are willing participants.

That's k-irritating.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Lawrence and Mark... send the trade through again... i will OK it.

Aaron W., trades are allowed by the league, not just the owners. This is the way the league was set up (to be fair). You have a chance to vote for or against any trade, click on the pending trades in the league page.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Or cuz they're very unfair. (like Felicity's deal, but whatever, I don't care. People can make dumb trades if they like, just so long as I get in on the akshun eventually)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Lawrence, I'll leave it to you to set up, but only if you still wanna do it.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

So what's to stop the number 1 team in September from vetoing any deals that might make his/her immediate competitors better?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I really don't think felicity should trade Rocky Biddle, at least not for the player offered. Sorry if that offends anyone, but it seems like a bad deal.

Is there a trade deadline, like July 31?

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting Lo Duca for Biddle is a huge fucking coup!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I think felicity wins that trade, easy. But it is certainly not protestable.

K-IRRITATING when people protest trades when others are willing participants, agreed.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

*ahem*

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

well why didn't anyone object to gygax! when he was setting up the rules for the league?

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I already have the two best relievers in baseball (Baez* and Smoltz). My current catcher is k-rotten.

*Do not argue with me about Baez. PH33R my baseball acumen!

Let's do it!

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Cross-post with Yancey, but yeah, what he said.

It offends me hstencil, because it makes me think you don't know much about baseball (or at least the fantasy kind).

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

fair enough, I guess. Maybe I wanted to join this league so I could learn more from you, your highness?

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop taking things personally, stencil!

Anyway, the reason why you wanna have the option to veto trades that owners agree to is cuz when an owner realizes that they are out of the running, he/she might decide to dump their best players to someone else in the league for jackshit, just to fuxor everyone else over. This has happened WAY too many times in leagues I have been in, and it's important not to let it happen here. It's fuxing frustrating!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

well why didn't anyone object to gygax! when he was setting up the rules for the league?

Because it makes sense IF (and only if) its used as a procautionary measure (ie. I get fed up with my ranking at the end of the year and decide to trade A-Rod, Mulder and Halladay to Yancey for a large Coke).

As we've managed to succinctly prove in the span of ten posts, what one person thinks is a steal often isn't, and as Lawrence points out, he's already got three solid closers -> did whoever vetoed the trade take that into account?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)
