of course, assuming it is something that can be done over the internets

föllakzoidberg (electricsound), Monday, 10 February 2014 21:08 (ten years ago) link

That is great news! Thanks.

Also: song has been submitted!

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 00:19 (ten years ago) link

Hm I spose I should start thinking about this, haha.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 02:16 (ten years ago) link

I just got one of these:
http://www.strapya-world.com/pic/2009/English-otamatone-0082.jpg

should I use it on my track y or n?

sarahell, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 02:18 (ten years ago) link

y obvs!

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 02:23 (ten years ago) link

zero of the signified and i are going to record a cover of steely dan's "barrytown" for this.

kilt by defrock (get bent), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:23 (ten years ago) link

1) Otamatone jams? A+++++ superdoubleplusgood YES

2) we can do covers? Because after the 22 Listens project, I really am feeling like this is the next step.

"righteous indignation shit" (Branwell Bell), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 08:08 (ten years ago) link

I am going to hold off on this until I am sufficiently decon-kanye-nated, otherwise I will end up doing something I will regret.

sarahell, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 10:10 (ten years ago) link

"Doing something I will regret" is the whole point of my idea, but also, feel like "doing something I will regret" is a huge part of Kanye's very ethos?

"righteous indignation shit" (Branwell Bell), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 10:33 (ten years ago) link

fine, you do a kanye cover, I will do something else.

sarahell, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 11:23 (ten years ago) link

I don't know any Kanye or I would. Maybe I'll do an Interpol song in the style of Kanye.

"righteous indignation shit" (Branwell Bell), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 11:33 (ten years ago) link

Any contributions yet? I've got a Winter Olympics inspired track ready and rarin' to go.

I think my Otamatone won't come in time. ;_;

emil.y, Thursday, 13 February 2014 12:37 (ten years ago) link

Oh noes, it could have been an Otamatone themed album.

Never mind. I have 2 weeks to learn how to smoke like Udo Kier, without choking, to get my beats fascist enough for this project.

"righteous indignation shit" (Branwell Bell), Thursday, 13 February 2014 12:51 (ten years ago) link

i think it has arrived!

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Thursday, 13 February 2014 19:54 (ten years ago) link

ken, did you get the new version of our song? i sent it a few days ago. just checking!

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Thursday, 20 February 2014 13:55 (ten years ago) link

Yup - received! Sorry I have been checking that mailbox sporadically but will do so more often now we're approaching the deadline...

Hope the rest of the tracks are going well. I am picking up a knackered imac tonight hoping it can be combined with my knackered imac in order to produce one non-knackered imac with which to record music, wish me luck!

when all tracks are submitted I will email all submitted with the track listing so you can verify that the names are all correct

Optionally, if there are additional details you'd like to include with your track, please send it to me and I will include it in where available!

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Thursday, 20 February 2014 14:21 (ten years ago) link

hope to finish my track tonight or tomorrow. it's a #1 hit single, guarantee it!

Karl Malone, Sunday, 23 February 2014 23:48 (ten years ago) link

o shit. typical last minute approach to homework from me.

Merdeyeux, Sunday, 23 February 2014 23:49 (ten years ago) link

i'm sure my track will fit really smoothly into the flow of the compilation. particularly if the rest of you are also basing yours off of local "Firefighter for a Day" news segments

Karl Malone, Sunday, 23 February 2014 23:51 (ten years ago) link

Holy shitsnacks, this snuck up on me and I've been so busy with Weeklybeats and my band I havent done anything argh!

Not to worry, I'll get something out soon :)

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Monday, 24 February 2014 00:28 (ten years ago) link

I have finally got my "studio" up and running again (bought a cheap knackered imac) so it's frantic recording time soon.

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Monday, 24 February 2014 11:42 (ten years ago) link

I have a boring machine outside my window for the next few weeks. I have no idea if I'll be able to record. Or if I should turn in eight minutes of boring machine samples!

Bipolar Sumner (Branwell Bell), Monday, 24 February 2014 12:37 (ten years ago) link

When the gas board replaced all the pipes on my street a few years ago, I recorded the sound of the big JCB mounted pneumatic drills and used them in a song.

We used a 1973 writing textbook, I'm dying to know who we get to be!! I'm also pretty excited about this -- it's the first time my drumming has been used in a song I also had a small hand in composing. How many more days?

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Monday, 24 February 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link

submitted!

Karl Malone, Monday, 24 February 2014 23:34 (ten years ago) link

Welp, looks like I'm last-minuting this one after all my whining about it being too MUCH time hahaha. Guess I better crack knuckles over this tonight then.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Thursday, 27 February 2014 23:27 (ten years ago) link

what happens now? how many songs do we have? where will they go?

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Friday, 28 February 2014 19:35 (ten years ago) link

fuck I have totally forgotten about this until today and am completely unprepared to do this ;_; I am going to have to withdraw, I am v v sorry :( :( :(

"Jiggle It" - 2 in a Zoo (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 1 March 2014 19:49 (ten years ago) link

I have a reserve track that I did fairly recently but I will try to do something fresh right now

Ken, please post an absolute deadline tho

I am sorry; I am going to move from "maybe" to "no".

I didn't do any music during February, but in my defence, I did write a 200000 word novel? But until ILX does anthologies instead of compilations, that's no good to you.

Bipolar Sumner (Branwell Bell), Sunday, 2 March 2014 08:57 (ten years ago) link

I thought about an ILX anthology, it didn't go well...

Thanks to everybody who made efforts to submit on time!

Now, for those 7 "to come" (myself included, for shame - i only managed to fix the recording equipment last week), can you please let me know if 2 extra weeks is likely to be helpful for you?

I think we'd all prefer to wait a bit longer if it means we get to hear more tracks, but only if it is likely.

Let me know please.

After we have a final list of tracks, I'm going to compile a CD image to download so that you can "make your own CD" and will put it on SoundCloud as well.

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 2 March 2014 09:54 (ten years ago) link

are previous ilx compilations still extant/available to listen to anywhere on line? I liked the Beatles one from a couple of years ago, I haven't been able to find any of the others

soref, Sunday, 2 March 2014 09:59 (ten years ago) link

two extra weeks would make all the difference in the world

sarahell, Sunday, 2 March 2014 10:55 (ten years ago) link

My song is basically done now! But tbh, if I had a few extra days I could mix and frou it up.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Sunday, 2 March 2014 11:21 (ten years ago) link

soref: Ned often puts em on soundcloud.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Sunday, 2 March 2014 11:26 (ten years ago) link

Was going to say , can't make it..

But maybe 2 weeks might help..

Mark G, Sunday, 2 March 2014 14:29 (ten years ago) link

possibly dumb question: am i allowed to post my song to a personal (but public) account before the new due date? i want everyone to have the extra time, i just wondered. (i told my mom she could hear the song and she doesn't understand emailed sound files but she does understand clicking on soundcloud, kind of sob but mostly lol)

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Sunday, 2 March 2014 16:55 (ten years ago) link

I am not in charge here, but a suggestion if it's not okay: you can make soundcloud files private but available to anyone with the link.

P.S. Sarahell do you still need my wonderful otamatone playing/some kind of contribution?

emil.y, Sunday, 2 March 2014 17:09 (ten years ago) link

Good point! I forgot about that.

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Sunday, 2 March 2014 17:27 (ten years ago) link

yeah it would be very useful to me to have any extra time, this deadline is very inconveniently clashing with an irl one i have.

Merdeyeux, Sunday, 2 March 2014 17:32 (ten years ago) link

Two extra weeks it is, then! End of day 16th march!

Btw of course that is fine! Xposts8

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 2 March 2014 18:17 (ten years ago) link

Does the track have to be new? I could send something I donkeys' years ago or is that against the spirit of this thing?
