ILX Compilation v6: FREESTYLER - rock your microphone

Holy shitsnacks, this snuck up on me and I've been so busy with Weeklybeats and my band I havent done anything argh!

Not to worry, I'll get something out soon :)

I have finally got my "studio" up and running again (bought a cheap knackered imac) so it's frantic recording time soon.

I have a boring machine outside my window for the next few weeks. I have no idea if I'll be able to record. Or if I should turn in eight minutes of boring machine samples!

When the gas board replaced all the pipes on my street a few years ago, I recorded the sound of the big JCB mounted pneumatic drills and used them in a song.

We used a 1973 writing textbook, I'm dying to know who we get to be!! I'm also pretty excited about this -- it's the first time my drumming has been used in a song I also had a small hand in composing. How many more days?

Now, for those 7 "to come" (myself included, for shame - i only managed to fix the recording equipment last week), can you please let me know if 2 extra weeks is likely to be helpful for you?

I think we'd all prefer to wait a bit longer if it means we get to hear more tracks, but only if it is likely.

After we have a final list of tracks, I'm going to compile a CD image to download so that you can "make your own CD" and will put it on SoundCloud as well.

are previous ilx compilations still extant/available to listen to anywhere on line? I liked the Beatles one from a couple of years ago, I haven't been able to find any of the others

My song is basically done now! But tbh, if I had a few extra days I could mix and frou it up.

possibly dumb question: am i allowed to post my song to a personal (but public) account before the new due date? i want everyone to have the extra time, i just wondered. (i told my mom she could hear the song and she doesn't understand emailed sound files but she does understand clicking on soundcloud, kind of sob but mostly lol)

I am not in charge here, but a suggestion if it's not okay: you can make soundcloud files private but available to anyone with the link.

Does the track have to be new? I could send something I donkeys' years ago or is that against the spirit of this thing?

Yeah I had a track ready to go but it was a rushed pile of puke so I gave it up as a weeklybeats contrib instead. I'll do something better. I swear.

I'd have to remember how to play it and learn how to record it via a computer. Not necessarily impossible, but unlikely. I e-mailed the old version the other day, btw.

Ha. I only stumbled across this thread a couple of days ago - the whole concept seems to have passed me by previously. Now I've done a bit of research and listened to a load of the Beatles 'covers' (including Everybody's got something to hide...).

If you ever find my contribution to one of the Xmas albums, any worries about recording quality will just fall away
