When the gas board replaced all the pipes on my street a few years ago, I recorded the sound of the big JCB mounted pneumatic drills and used them in a song.

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:53 (ten years ago) link

We used a 1973 writing textbook, I'm dying to know who we get to be!! I'm also pretty excited about this -- it's the first time my drumming has been used in a song I also had a small hand in composing. How many more days?

submitted!

Karl Malone, Monday, 24 February 2014 23:34 (ten years ago) link

Welp, looks like I'm last-minuting this one after all my whining about it being too MUCH time hahaha. Guess I better crack knuckles over this tonight then.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Thursday, 27 February 2014 23:27 (ten years ago) link

what happens now? how many songs do we have? where will they go?

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Friday, 28 February 2014 19:35 (ten years ago) link

fuck I have totally forgotten about this until today and am completely unprepared to do this ;_; I am going to have to withdraw, I am v v sorry :( :( :(

"Jiggle It" - 2 in a Zoo (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 1 March 2014 19:49 (ten years ago) link

I have a reserve track that I did fairly recently but I will try to do something fresh right now

Ken, please post an absolute deadline tho

I am sorry; I am going to move from "maybe" to "no".

I didn't do any music during February, but in my defence, I did write a 200000 word novel? But until ILX does anthologies instead of compilations, that's no good to you.

Bipolar Sumner (Branwell Bell), Sunday, 2 March 2014 08:57 (ten years ago) link

I thought about an ILX anthology, it didn't go well...

Thanks to everybody who made efforts to submit on time!

Now, for those 7 "to come" (myself included, for shame - i only managed to fix the recording equipment last week), can you please let me know if 2 extra weeks is likely to be helpful for you?

I think we'd all prefer to wait a bit longer if it means we get to hear more tracks, but only if it is likely.

Let me know please.

After we have a final list of tracks, I'm going to compile a CD image to download so that you can "make your own CD" and will put it on SoundCloud as well.

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 2 March 2014 09:54 (ten years ago) link

are previous ilx compilations still extant/available to listen to anywhere on line? I liked the Beatles one from a couple of years ago, I haven't been able to find any of the others

soref, Sunday, 2 March 2014 09:59 (ten years ago) link

two extra weeks would make all the difference in the world

sarahell, Sunday, 2 March 2014 10:55 (ten years ago) link

My song is basically done now! But tbh, if I had a few extra days I could mix and frou it up.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Sunday, 2 March 2014 11:21 (ten years ago) link

soref: Ned often puts em on soundcloud.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Sunday, 2 March 2014 11:26 (ten years ago) link

Was going to say , can't make it..

But maybe 2 weeks might help..

Mark G, Sunday, 2 March 2014 14:29 (ten years ago) link

possibly dumb question: am i allowed to post my song to a personal (but public) account before the new due date? i want everyone to have the extra time, i just wondered. (i told my mom she could hear the song and she doesn't understand emailed sound files but she does understand clicking on soundcloud, kind of sob but mostly lol)

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Sunday, 2 March 2014 16:55 (ten years ago) link

I am not in charge here, but a suggestion if it's not okay: you can make soundcloud files private but available to anyone with the link.

P.S. Sarahell do you still need my wonderful otamatone playing/some kind of contribution?

emil.y, Sunday, 2 March 2014 17:09 (ten years ago) link

Good point! I forgot about that.

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Sunday, 2 March 2014 17:27 (ten years ago) link

yeah it would be very useful to me to have any extra time, this deadline is very inconveniently clashing with an irl one i have.

Merdeyeux, Sunday, 2 March 2014 17:32 (ten years ago) link

Two extra weeks it is, then! End of day 16th march!

Btw of course that is fine! Xposts8

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 2 March 2014 18:17 (ten years ago) link

Does the track have to be new? I could send something I donkeys' years ago or is that against the spirit of this thing?

he is looking only the ball (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 2 March 2014 18:17 (ten years ago) link

Btw anyone who submitted of course it's also fine to use the extra weeks to tweak if you wanted to (not that any of them requires this)

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 2 March 2014 18:19 (ten years ago) link

Xpost old track is fine too for sure!

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Sunday, 2 March 2014 18:20 (ten years ago) link

Actually, now I've dug something out I realise the recording quality is dreadful

― emil.y, Sunday, March 2, 2014 9:09 AM (3 hours ago)

I would very much like it, yes!

sarahell, Sunday, 2 March 2014 20:32 (ten years ago) link

Yeah I had a track ready to go but it was a rushed pile of puke so I gave it up as a weeklybeats contrib instead. I'll do something better. I swear.

perhaps a 2014 remix? :)

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Tuesday, 4 March 2014 16:30 (ten years ago) link

I'd have to remember how to play it and learn how to record it via a computer. Not necessarily impossible, but unlikely. I e-mailed the old version the other day, btw.

I prefer your earlier work anyway

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 18:20 (ten years ago) link

Ha. I only stumbled across this thread a couple of days ago - the whole concept seems to have passed me by previously. Now I've done a bit of research and listened to a load of the Beatles 'covers' (including Everybody's got something to hide...).

If you ever find my contribution to one of the Xmas albums, any worries about recording quality will just fall away

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 4 March 2014 18:31 (ten years ago) link

i just sent a song if it's too late np
also i just saw this thread so i didnt sign up
but i've been recording a lot lately so i figured wth

Fuck I keep completely forgetting I have to do this.

Tonight, pinkieswear, I'll do something.

Question: are covers ok?

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Tuesday, 4 March 2014 23:49 (ten years ago) link

yup covers are perfectly fine

You can take me off the maybe list -- I think 1 is enough!

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 13:49 (ten years ago) link

Maybe if I finished reading Spacecadet's "how not to procrastinate" PDFs, I might actually finish my track?

has the extension resulted in any new recordings?

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 12 March 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

not yet!

sent!

i'm rly sorry, i'll have to drop out. moving house turned into a full time occupation that's still ongoing. next time around i promise i'll devote weeks to the most elaborate, baroque piece of crap you've ever heard.

Merdeyeux, Sunday, 16 March 2014 13:16 (ten years ago) link

i'll ask again -- what happens now?

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Sunday, 16 March 2014 17:33 (ten years ago) link

I sent a thing earlier...

imago, Sunday, 16 March 2014 19:16 (ten years ago) link
