grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'm only ever late when you're about GF, because it winds you up. I'm known for my timekeeping elsewhere

stet (stet), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

Cozen: I booked it weeks ago, but could phone up and change the booking. Are you definitely coming now?

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

Only two girls, and all those chaps. Internet communities, eh?

Sausage party,

Also: Mono suX.

Also: I will be trying Glasgow less in the future.

alext (alext), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Also: I will be trying Glasgow less in the future.

?

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

I will be trying Glasgow on the 18th Nov. Unfortunately it will only be long enough to get from central to buchanan st on my way to visit my friend in Linlithgow, as she's recently produced a sproglet. Also unfortunate is the fact that due to being miserly I won't be coming back the same way as I bought very cheap singles and am returning gner, so won't be able to meet anyone for drinks. Assuming anyone would be up for that.

But Chris and I will be trying Glasgow at some point in the future.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

I will be trying Glasgow less in the future

yes, and this is a GOOD THING :)

(sorry i haven't rung you yet, alex! i will soon, i promise. maybe even in the next five minutes.)

vicky: that's a crap excuse for not coming to the pub.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

Good thing = new job, not in Glasgow! But not far away :-)

alext (alext), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 22:54 (nineteen years ago)

aw, i was trying to be mysterious.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't want to bust it either. Congrats Alex! I give it six months before plagiarism is rife again, with people using those fangled internets to "paste and cut" under snoozing profs' noses again

stet (stet), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

I see that sentence structure has already gone to hell

stet (stet), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

alex, you have one month left to save the poor boy.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

Madchen, guess who I was stood next to at half-time at the football (if you aren't reading the ILX Celebrity Sightings thread)...

I was wishing I had a camera on my phone so I could have taken a picture and sent it to you.

Vicky, I work between Central Station and Buchanan Street. Can you not even spare half an hour for a cup of coffee?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

Ailsa, you sound like a panhandler.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 10 November 2005 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

Alex, S1mon (and anyone else who fancies it), we should sort out that night out, in an attempt to at least make one of the crazy plans come true... Some time next week maybe? Trying Edinburgh I think, though. I want to go to the soft rock night at the Pond, but don't know anything about it. I'll have to find out.

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 10 November 2005 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

I haf bought my ticket, and being a cheapskate it is non-negotiable. Also, I can't remember what time I get into Central Station, I don't get into Linlithgow until after 8, so i think it's after finishing time. I guess I could buy a single from buchanan st to linlithgow, depending on the timings.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 10 November 2005 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

But we will be trying Glasgow properly in the new year sometime. I tried to buy tickets last night, but there appears to be engineering work or something on the west coast line in January which would mean three changes and leaving london at 5pm and only arriving in glasgow at a couple of minutes to midnight.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 10 November 2005 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

I am coming

I can phone up and change if you wish?

soul provider (Cozen), Thursday, 10 November 2005 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

What about the east coast line? I seem to usually end up using that anyway cause it usually has cheaper offers.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 10 November 2005 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Cozen, yay! Probably best if you do it because I am rub at these things. You can find the number on the internet can't you? Booking's in my surname I think. (Confession: I didn't actually book it either, for delegation is the key to getting things done, I find.)

Alext, yay! Are you going somewhere posher?

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 10 November 2005 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

Ailsa, cor!

Vicky, soon!

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 10 November 2005 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

gner's site was playing up as much as thetrainline last night, I got frustrated and gave up.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 10 November 2005 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

booked for 11

soul provider (Cozen), Thursday, 10 November 2005 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

Good lad :)

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 10 November 2005 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Are we any nearer to a pub yet, or are we stuck with Mono?

Also, have the Koshkemeerers remembered that it's a BYOB sort of place with a £2 corkage charge and no actual bouze being sold on the premises? Just thought I'd remind you so you can get your asses down to Vicky Wines in your lunch hours rather than chasing up dodgy Pollokshaws Road offies on the way...

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 10 November 2005 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

I like Mono, these days. I had my doubts at first.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 10 November 2005 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Vicky - check out Air Berlin's new STN-GLA service - £38 return if booked well in advance, last time I looked. Comfy seats, leg room, refreshments included.

I am not on commission, btw.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 10 November 2005 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

worst thing abut Mono = staff who chat to their cool mates and ignore the fact you have been standing at the bar for 5 minutes.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 10 November 2005 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

Try flying less! (the environment and that) (mind you I'm flying home at Christmas but there are reasons)

gner's site was playing up as much as thetrainline last night, I got frustrated and gave up.

But thetrainline is where I usually book my (east coast) trips! It's not just for Virgin. I never specify which line, but I suppose if you put 'via Edinburgh' then it should work. Or just say you only want one change, if the west coast is making you change three times cause of engineering work.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 10 November 2005 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

I can't say I've experienced that, jed, but I do get a bit freaked out by the general indie-cool vibe of Mono sometimes. I'm like "You're fucking indie kids - you can't be all 'cool'. This is all wrong! It's like they tell me it is in America or something! Smile you twat!"

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 10 November 2005 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

jed OTM, but utter uselessness of those bar monkeys is more than that. They all serve like it's their first night on the job. Befuddled expressions in place, they pick at random from the bar instead of sticking to one section --- which means they're always falling over each other; they seem surprised that they sell drinks:
"a pint of blanc please"
"a what?"
"a pint of blanc please"
"uhh okkaay"
And then when the money bit comes they look like scared little boys if you give them a credit card, or if it's cash they mill hopelessly around the till prodding the big buttons like 85-year-olds at a hospital WRVS trying to work their new espresso machine.

And to top it off, they use warm glasses fresh from the washer.

stet (stet), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

The best thing about Mono - knowing one or two of the bar staff who will see you and serve you quickly. And give you chilled glasses from the fridge. Different strokes.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

So what you're saying is that you're becoming some kind of cunt?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

but that's true of any pub -- it's just that you can go in those pubs for the first time and not feel like you're witnessing When Barmen … Attack!

That blanc thing happened to some poor chump ahead of me at the crush on Saturday night. I stood for about five minutes watching various people get mauled in the apathy engine, and wandered off righteously angry. Er, and went back ten minutes later to buy a drink. Can't beat the man.

(Sorry if they're your friends though)

stet (stet), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:15 (nineteen years ago)

yes

xpost

yes!

who cares whose friends they are. stet OTM.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

OK, if we go to Mono, I'm giving my money to Ally C and letting him go to the bar.

I take it we *are* going to Mono then, despite grumblings to the contrary. What time?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

I am not 'becoming' a cunt. I have been a cunt for quite some time, now.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 11 November 2005 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

If we go to Mono, we let Ally go to the bar and pay for us with his own money.

Mädchen (Madchen), Friday, 11 November 2005 06:55 (nineteen years ago)

It's going to be a bit windy, I here.

Mädchen (Madchen), Friday, 11 November 2005 07:01 (nineteen years ago)

In my defence, I have just woken up.

Mädchen (Madchen), Friday, 11 November 2005 07:07 (nineteen years ago)

The bar staff in Mono are lovely. I know it can take ages to get served when there's a gig on, but then that's the case everywhere. Paul and everyone were really helpful and accomodating when we did the Beard 4 launch there. So nyaahh! ;)

Stew (stew s), Friday, 11 November 2005 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

That's because your Beard magazine was a passport to indie scenesterism, Stew.
